CCS Honors Alumni Veterans at Annual Veterans Day Chapel
On Monday, November 11, 2019, CCS was honored to partner with current school families and alumni to recognize the military service of their loved ones. In attendance at the annual Veterans Day Assembly were CCS graduates Robert Geyer ’14 (Marines), Phil Praesel ’98 (Air Force) and Johnathon Alsobrooks, spouse of Susan Mayes Alsobrooks ’01 (Army), pictured right. These three veterans along with 15 fellow alumni veterans were recognized in the 2019 Roll of Honor: Air Force: Paul Cathcart (’06), Phil Praesel ’98; Army: Johnathon Alsobrooks, spouse of Susan Mayes Alsobrooks ’01, Miles Breman (’12), Blaise Fontenot (’14), Andrew Galloway (’12), Mark Martinez (’04), Calvin Novotny (’14), Clayton Novotny (’16), Devin Powers (’06), Jonathan Rangel (’13); Marines: Robert Geyer ’14, Luke Jones (’06), Adam Springfield (’02), Andrew Wilson (’00); Navy: Taylor Brown (’11), Daniel Minchew (’00), Kenneth Nelson (’05).
The ceremony included the formal Posting of the Colors, pledges, special music and important messages from CCS Executive Director, Dr. Jeff Potts and guest speaker Captain Chuck Macune who attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, and served in the U.S. Army for seven years. Captain Macune is the proud parent of CCS 10th-grade student Grace Macune, CCS 11th-grade student John Macune and CCS Class of 2019 alumnus, Daniel Macune (click here to read bio in October 2019 Alumni Newsletter).
Thank you to everyone who made this event a special morning where we could all say thank you to our veterans of the armed forces and to those who continue to serve our country. God bless our military and God bless America!
Charlie Mills (’19) is a plebe (freshman) at the United States Military Academy. He attends West Point along with fellow 2019 CCS graduate Daniel Macune, and is pursuing a major in geography. Since leaving Texas in June, he has completed Cadet Basic Training and is almost finished with his first semester as a plebe. In company G3, the Gophers, he competes on the combatives team, and enjoys boxing class. He spends time at the climbing gym with Daniel most weekends. Charlie says, “I’m thankful for all the people at home supporting me. Without their prayers and phone calls, I wouldn’t have made it this far already. I miss my friends at CCS.” He’s excited for the Army-Navy game on December 14, where Army will try to keep the streak alive for a fourth year! Beat Navy!
Cale Soudelier (’16) is a senior at Texas A&M University with plans to graduate in May 2020. He is working toward a degree in business management with an emphasis in consulting. After graduation, he will begin his career with the Gallagher firm, specializing in benefits and human capital consulting. As an ambassador for the Mays Business School at Texas A&M, he enjoys his role in assisting current students, prospective students, donors and alumni. When current CCS junior Blake Stovall visited the campus, Cale was happy to connect with him to answer his questions and give him a tour.
Mimi Fredrickson (’16) is a senior biochemistry major at Samford University, a private Christian university in Homewood, Alabama. While at Samford she has participated in undergraduate research for the Department of Chemistry. Last spring, their research group published a paper on ni-catalyzed hydroarylation of alkynes under reductive conditions. This fall, she had the opportunity to present her current research at the southeastern regional meeting of the American Chemical Society. Her current research is on ni-catalyzed larock annulation under reductive conditions, which will hopefully be published in the coming year. She is a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, a captain of the Samford cheerleading squad and attends Shades Valley Community Church. After graduation in May 2020, she will marry fellow CCS alumnus, Will Echols (’15). They plan to move to Austin next summer.
On Sat. Nov. 2, 2019, a group of former CCS parents and students celebrated the life of former CCS Bible teacher, Mr. Bob Johnson. He impacted many people throughout his life by how he lived out his faith in Jesus Christ – every moment of every day. He showed his students and their families what a life well-lived looks like – how to love God and His people, how to serve God and others, how to be diligent and steadfast in all God called him to do and how to laugh in the midst of life’s ups and downs. He was encouraging and wise, and his smile warmed your heart. He was a blessing! Prayers for his wife Edith (shown in photo) and his family members are appreciated.
