Alumni Newsletter – May 2019

Two former ’07 classmates gave birth on the same day.

Keeley Lambert Jones (’07) and her husband Clayton live in Los Angeles, CA, and are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Liv Kimberly Jones, born on May 9, 2019 weighing 7 lbs., 7 oz. and measuring 20 inches. Keeley is an actress and also works part time for a faith-based, arts non-profit organization, which she helped start while living in New York City. Keeley and Clayton recently produced and starred in a short film that they hope will be featured in festivals this year.

Kelsey Salmon Moore (’07) and her husband Kent also welcomed their first child, Miles Garrison Moore, into the world on May 9, 2019. He weighed 8 lbs., 3 oz. and measured 24 inches. Kelsey and her family live in Lubbock, TX, where she is the Business Office Coordinator at Covenant School of Nursing and Kent is an Escrow Officer at Title One. They attend Hillside Christian Church and are actively involved in a small group Bible study.

Will Johnson (’01) and wife Amanda celebrated their son’s baby dedication on Mother’s Day 2019. McKoy Frank Johnson is nine months old, and is the younger brother to Tucker Lane Herron, who is eight years old. They live in Fort Worth, TX, where Will is a project manager for Southland Holdings. The family attends Fellowship of the Parks Church in Haslet, TX.

Ashley Alford Vara (’03) and husband Kyle are thrilled to announce that Finley Hope Vara was born April 30, 2019, at 1:54 am., weighing 7 lbs., 4 oz. and measuring 21 inches. “We thank God for this answer to prayer,” says Ashley. “We are so in love and not sure what we did before she was in our lives.” Ashley is a graduate of Texas Tech University and enjoys her role as a fourth-grade teacher in Klein ISD. Kyle is in sales at PPG Industries, Inc., and they attend The Church Global in Tomball, TX.

Kaitlyn Wray Baca (’05) and her husband Brett are pleased to introduce their firstborn, Emerson Elizabeth. She arrived on May 11, 2019, weighing 4 lbs., 8 oz., and measuring 18 1/4 inches. Brett and Kaitlyn were married December 3, 2017, and are beyond thrilled to welcome their bundle of joy. Kaitlyn is an assistant kindergarten teacher at Presbyterian School in downtown Houston, TX, and Brett is a kindergarten teacher at Cimarron Elementary school in Katy, TX. 

Nathan Gertson (’05) and wife Claire are pleased to announce the birth of their second son Parker Curtis Gertson. Little Parker was ten days early and made their Easter Sunday “all kinds of exciting.” They arrived at the hospital at 1 a.m. on April 21, 2019, and Parker was born at 12:57 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, weighing 7lbs., 14 oz. and measuring 21 inches. Graham, who is three years old, is a proud big brother. Nathan and Claire, who live in Springfield, MO, have recently launched their own home goods company. Lauren Cater Tilton (’15) married Michael Tilton on May 18, 2019, shortly after graduating cum laude from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with her B.S. in nursing. Lauren will begin her nursing career at Scott and White in Temple, TX, in June. Michael will attend Texas A&M University – Central Texas to earn a degree in Information systems. The couple attends Temple Bible Church. Fun fact: Michael and Laura met while attending CCS. (Michael attended CCS for grades 3-11.)

Jeffrey Schultz (’14) graduated from Houston Baptist University in May 2019, with a B.A in history. He was a member of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society and plans to pursue a master’s degree. Jeffrey attends Clay Road Baptist Church in Houston, TX.

Amanda Swanton (’14) graduated from Texas A&M University in 2018, with a degree in nutritional sciences, didactic program in dietetics. Most recently, she graduated from the dietetic internship at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, TX, and will be taking the exam to become a registered dietitian. After becoming credentialed, she hopes to earn a position at a children’s hospital in Knoxville, TN, where she will be moving in September 2019, after she marries her college sweetheart, Greyson Mondini. Amanda is looking forward to this new season of life and is grateful for the wonderful mentorship she received at CCS.

Emily Mahan (’16) graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, TX, in May 2019, with a B.A. in English and mass communication. She is pursuing a job as an editor or public relations practitioner in Houston, TX. Emily attends The MET church in northwest Houston.
