Grease: School Edition
On February 27, 28 and March 1, 2025, high school students from the Cypress Christian School Performing Arts Department brought the stage to life with an incredible production of Grease: School Version—a full-length musical comedy by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs, adapted for young performers and suitable for all audiences.
Audiences were transported back to 1959, where good girl Sandy (Danielle Robertson, Class of ’26) and greaser Danny (Micah Humphrey, Class of ’25) fell for each other during a carefree summer romance. But when the school year begins and Sandy unexpectedly transfers in, Danny finds himself torn between his true feelings for her and maintaining his tough-guy image with the T-Birds and Pink Ladies.
Fans of the musical were thrilled to hear iconic songs from both the Broadway show and the movie, including “Hopelessly Devoted”, “Greased Lightnin’”, “You’re the One That I Want” and many more! Cast members expressed their excitement over performing a lighthearted comedy—an enjoyable shift from past productions filled with life-or-death stakes.
The production featured a talented ensemble, including the T-Birds: Kenickie (Jeykei Ortiguero, ‘27), Doody (Caleb Poirrier, ‘27), Roger (Gabe Caldwell, ‘26), Sonny (Logan Oliverson, ‘26) and Johnny Casino (Aidan Salazar, ‘26). While the Pink Ladies brought their signature style and attitude with Rizzo (Erica Davenport, ‘26), Frenchy (Madison Mynes, ‘27), Marty (Emily Muse, ‘25) and Jan (Isabella LeSpade, ‘27).
Friday night’s performance included a special recognition for the Class of 2025 seniors, honoring their dedication both on stage and behind the scenes. The fifteen seniors involved in the production were: Avery Connelly (Miss Lynch), Grayson Eichelberger (Featured Ensemble), Sasha Farrington (Camera Director), Anna Fernandez (Hair and Makeup), Micah Humphrey (Danny), Brooklyn Kyrish (Ensemble), Mia Nguyen (Camera Operator), Kristen Meyer (Cha-Cha DiGregorio), Emily Muse (Marty), Katie Schmitt (Stage Manager), David Romero (Vince Fontaine), Nicole Santos (Patty Simcox), Amanda Taylor (Run Crew), Ester Torres-Pinhiero (Featured Ensemble) and Jadie Weatherly (Hair and Makeup).
The cast and crew dedicated three months of hard work and countless memories to bring this classic musical to life. Their directors and parents couldn’t be prouder of their efforts, as they use their talents to glorify God and His kingdom. Congratulations to the Grease: School Version cast and crew! We eagerly await the announcement of the Tommy Tune Awards later this month and can’t wait to see how HIS gifts continue to shine through your performances.

Spiritual Match
At least one parent must give a written account of how they came to know the Lord and be in agreement with the CCS Statement of Faith & Doctrine and the Mission Statement.
Behavioral Match
Students must have a record of good behavior.
Academic Match
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) – Students applying to transitional kindergarten (TK) are given a developmental assessment to determine developmental age and proper placement. There is also a required observation.
Kindergarten – Students applying to kindergarten are given a learning readiness screening and a developmental assessment to determine developmental age and proper placement. There is also a required observation.
Grade 1 – Students applying to grade 1 are given a learning readiness screening and a developmental assessment to determine developmental age and proper placement. They must also test on or above grade level on the reading and math sections of the CCS entrance exam and meet the minimum required reading level, to be determined by administration of the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessment.
Grades 2-5 – Students applying to grades 2-5 must test on or above grade level on the ISEE Test and meet the minimum required reading level for their grade, to be determined by administration of the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessment. Students are asked to provide standardized and/or achievement test scores if taken within one year of the application date.
Grades 6-12 – Students applying to grades 6-12 must test on or above grade level on the ISEE Test. Students are asked to provide standardized and/or achievement test scores if taken within one year of the application date.

A family interview may be offered once the applicant’s file is complete. If offered, both parents and student(s) would be required to meet with administrators. After the interview, the application file will be forwarded to the Admissions Committee for review.
Families will be informed of acceptance or denial of admission after the Admissions Committee reviews the information.

Veterans Day Speaker
Stephen Novotny has enjoyed a professional career serving as a U.S. Army officer, attorney school administrator, public policy advisor and organizational leader. He has served as Vice President for Public Policy & General Counsel for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), as Executive Director and Head of School for Cypress Christian School in Houston, TX and as legal counsel for ExxonMobil as well as for private businesses and non-profit organizations.
Before his work in public policy, law and education, Stephen served as a platoon leader in a U.S. Army mechanized infantry/armor division and was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for leadership.
Stephen holds a Juris Doctorate from Baylor University and a Bachelor of Science from Liberty University, where he received the distinction of being the institution’s Distinguished Military Graduate. He is licensed to practice law and is an active member of the Texas State Bar and the Washington State Bar.
Outside of work, Stephen enjoys spending time with his family, backpacking and traveling. Stephen and his wife Rachel have two adult sons, Calvin (’14) and Clayton (’16) – both CCS alumni, and live in Colorado Springs, CO. Calvin and his wife Heather are part of our Warrior family, have two children, E.J. and Erik, with E.J. attending first grade at CCS!
Stephen currently serves as a senior consultant and special advisor at Graybeal & Associates, LLC, where he focuses on providing governance training, leadership consulting, policy development, strategic planning, communications expertise and religious liberty protection guidance to client organizations nationwide.

CCS Teachers Tour New Campus
The excitement for the new campus is building among our staff members as they have been taking tours to explore their future classrooms and facilities. Led by CCS CFO and COO David Swan, these small group tours provide a unique opportunity to visit the new campus for the first time.
During these tours, staff members get to see both the primary and secondary buildings, asking questions about various aspects of the construction process and the innovative features that will enhance the learning environment. The excitement is evident as teachers imagine the possibilities awaiting them in their new classrooms, making this a truly memorable experience for the entire CCS community. With each step taken, the dream of a vibrant, state-of-the-art campus is becoming a reality.

Athletic Field Sod Installation
We’re excited to share that significant progress is being made on the new Cypress Christian School campus in Bridgeland. The grass sod has recently been rolled out and installed on both the baseball and football fields, bringing us one step closer to completing the outdoor athletic facilities. Inside the buildings, construction is advancing steadily with insulation and drywall being installed this week. These updates mark important milestones as we continue to build a state-of-the-art environment for our students and community. Stay tuned for more updates as we move closer to our opening day!

The buildings are now rising vertically, with interior duct work and walls taking shape, bringing our vision closer to reality. Student Shadow Days
Students in grades 3-11 who are considering attending CCS may attend school on a scheduled day and will be partnered with a student in their current grade.
Grades 3-5: Wednesdays only from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Grades 6-11: Scheduled day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Parents will pre-register at the link below, and must check the student in at drop-off.

Recent Developments at the Bridgeland Campus
Update: March 17, 2025
New Campus Construction Remains On Schedule
The construction of Cypress Christian School’s new Bridgeland campus is progressing steadily and remains on schedule for the 2025 school year. Walls on all buildings are now vertical, and interiors are quickly taking shape. Cabinetry and ceiling tiles are being installed, and floors are being prepped for finishing. In the gyms, basketball hoops have been hung, and the final flooring designs have been submitted.
The last building to go vertical was the field house, where interior walls are now being added—making the reality of our new campus feel even closer. A special piece of our Jones Road campus will also be making the move, as the bleachers have been disassembled and transported to Bridgeland, carrying a part of our legacy forward.
We are incredibly grateful for God’s provision throughout this journey and cannot wait to see the finished campus come to life in just a few months!

Game-Changing Athletic Facilities Taking Shape at New Bridgeland Campus
The new Cypress Christian School campus in Bridgeland is making incredible strides, especially in athletics! Goalposts are up on the football field, nets are set on the baseball and softball fields, and the walls of the state-of-the-art Field House are rising. This facility will be a true milestone, featuring a weight room, training area, locker rooms, and coaches’ offices. Meanwhile, the wood floors for the gymnasiums are being designed, promising a top-tier space for basketball, volleyball, and school events. These updates mark a new era for CCS athletics, offering students world-class facilities to train, compete, and grow. Go Warriors!

CCS Moms Serve Workers Building New Campus
Moms of TK, Kindergarten, and 4th grade students came together with great excitement to serve a heartfelt breakfast to the dedicated crew of over 150 men and women who are working tirelessly to build our new campus in Bridgeland. These incredible Warrior moms were thrilled to not only serve the workers but also witness the progress of the new campus firsthand. In addition to providing a warm meal, they prayed over the workers and the future home of Cypress Christian School, asking blessings on both their efforts and the exciting developments ahead.

Senior Capstone Engineering Students Visit Bridgeland Campus
The Senior Capstone Engineering class is reviewing the different types of engineering. While reviewing the basics of civil engineering, students were given engineering drawings of both the current CCS campus and the Bridgeland CCS campus. The class walked the current campus with engineering drawings, and then Mr. David Swan invited the class to walk the drawings of the future Bridgeland CCS campus. This experience allowed students to see the in-progress construction of a work site as well as speak to the on-site construction managers.

Athletic Field Sod Installation
We’re excited to share that significant progress is being made on the new Cypress Christian School campus in Bridgeland. The grass sod has recently been rolled out and installed on both the baseball and football fields, bringing us one step closer to completing the outdoor athletic facilities. Inside the buildings, construction is advancing steadily with insulation and drywall being installed this week. Service Awards
Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award
The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award recognizes and rewards individuals, male or female, who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities. The student selected to receive this year’s award is the definition of a servant leader, representing CCS with enthusiasm, integrity and humility and actively seeking opportunities to serve our broader community. This year’s recipient is Ashleigh Townsend.
Barnabas Servant Leadership Award
Barnabas in the Bible was a gracious personality, characterized by his generous
disposition. This award goes to the student who has made the greatest impact through her service to others during her high school career. She has accumulated over 500 hours of community service and is always seen as willing to help with a smile on her face. We are thankful for the impact she has made on the Cypress Christian School community. This year’s award goes to Kayna Betz.

Bible Department Award (Mr. Will Albers)
The Bible department award is somewhat unique in that we seek to recognize those who are not only excellent students when it comes to learning God’s Word but who also actively seek to put these things into practice, thereby exemplifying the traits of a Christian disciple both in and outside of the classroom. We are blessed to have many excellent candidates, but the following two students have distinguished themselves from their peers this year.
While attaining biblical knowledge is far from an unimportant element of our
curriculum, Scripture makes it abundantly clear that our Lord values the doing of his word far more highly than the mere hearing. In few students is this exemplified more than in Maddy McKnight. Not only does Maddy put consistent time and effort into reading and understanding God’s word, in and outside of the classroom, but her interactions with her fellow students display the fruit of the Spirit and embody the exhortation of 2 Peter 1:5-7, which tells us to “make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” She is a joy to have in the classroom and a worthy recipient of this award. Congratulations, Maddy!
There are many challenges that come with coming to a new school and often a new student will – understandably – need others to pour into them before being ready to pour into others. This has not been the case for Will Werlein. Will has been a positive force from the first day he set foot on campus. In the classroom, he is studious, thoughtful, and eager to engage with what Scripture has to say. Not only does he ask excellent questions, but, more impressively, he thinks deeply about the answers and their implications for life. And more importantly still, Will takes what he knows and puts it into practice by loving God and loving his neighbor. The verse that comes to mind to describe Will is Galatians 5:6, which tells us that the only thing that matters is “faith working through love.” This work of the Holy Spirit is evident in his life, and he is well-deserving of this award. Congratulations, Will!
English Department Award (Mrs. Donna Lambert)
The recipient of the academic award in English is a student who consistently
demonstrates a keen ability to discern and develop critical analyses of complex reading passages while simultaneously refining a writing style that is reflective and reasoned. In addition, this student excels in class discussions, often leading peers to challenge their own perspectives on both historical and current events as well as classic literature. This student dependably exhibits mastery through investigation, composition, and deliberation. We have two students who are receiving our English award this year. First, we would like to present Keaton Barbisch with our end-of-year achievement award. In the last two years, Keaton has successfully completed: AP Language, AP Literature, AP Seminar, and AP Research. In the opening Act of Henry IV “Part 1,” the young and foolish Prince Hal confesses that he will “imitate the sun” and he will allow the clouds full of “foul and ugly mists” to cover his natural capacities. Subsequently, Prince Hal befriends lowly commoners, petty thieves, and a cowardly “horse-back breaker”.
While Prince Hal does eventually reform, it is without question that Keaton has chosen a different academic strategy; he has “charged unto the breach”, semester after semester, continually challenging himself to maximize the gifts God has provided to him. In true obedience to the Parable of the Talents, Keaton has taken what he was given, and he has consciously decided to develop his blessing. Keaton led the classroom with his diligence and participation; he worked to advance his writing to levels of maturity and sophistication beyond his years; in short, he cooked. Congratulations, Keaton.
The next student we want to acknowledge is Maddy McKnight. For any teacher, the moment when a student truly gets it and that level of complex understanding and application flashes across her face with brightened eyes and a gasp of wonderment, it is the most amazing experience. This was every day in my 7th period English class with Maddy. From the first week of school, her passion and hunger for writing and reading has only matured, and I love watching her face as the dots connect and she realizes the intentionality of a literary character or suddenly discovers a theme within a piece of literature. Watching Maddy own her knowledge is powerful. Class discussions with Maddy often go something like this…”I see the motif of appearance vs reality
developing through … (and most students would stop here – not Maddy). She
elaborates with something like “not only that, but this character also exposes a
personal truth which I appreciate because… and again later in the novel when he…his internal conflict reveals a weakness which later becomes his strength within the resolution of the plot… Additionally, Maddy possesses the spiritual maturity to hold God’s Word as a standard to any literary theme. According to Maddy, there is always something to learn when we read, and I love that about her. Tonight, it is my greatest joy to celebrate Maddy who most certainly deserves our end-of-year English award.
History Department Award (Dr. Antonio Morales)
The social studies award is awarded to students who have excelled throughout the year in the field of social studies. The two individuals are receiving this award because they have demonstrated a complex understanding of the historical development that is necessary to explain the relevant and insightful connections within and across periods. Congratulations Lilah Johnson and Allison Zaccari.
Foreign Language Department Award (Mrs. Kelly Galbreath)
The Spanish award is given to one upperclassman and one underclassman student that has demonstrated a desire to become not only proficient in the language but endeavors to be completely bilingual. The motivation to learn about culture: the people, their practices, and the products, of Spanish speaking communities throughout the world is evident. These students have a willingness to take risks and learn from failure, understanding that the objective is communication with others rather than perfect grammatical accuracy or perfect test scores. The upperclassman award goes to a young man in AP Spanish IV. Among the topics that we have studied this year are global challenges, the effect of language and culture on one’s identity, and current advances and pitfalls in science and technology. This student not only looks at the surface level of these issues but rather delves deep into the why, the how,
the origin and possible solutions to the challenges presented and consistently does so through a Biblical worldview. He is well spoken, although sometimes we have to ask him to slow down so that everyone can keep up, and he is an excellent writer of persuasive essays. Although a native Spanish speaker, he has a teachable spirit and a desire to learn and grow in his knowledge of Spanish language and culture. Most importantly, he has compassion for others and is able to use both his language ability and relationship with Christ to minister to those in need. I myself have been a recipient of his encouragement and I am proud to give the upperclassman award to David Romero.
The second award is being given to a sophomore in Spanish III Honors. The very first day of class this young lady walked into the room speaking Spanish to me and her friends, which for a language teacher, was like music to my ears. Spanish is not an easy class, as most of you know, but this student is an extremely hard worker, spending hours to master and perfect vocabulary and grammar concepts in pursuit of becoming fluent. She has an inquisitive nature and desire to truly learn and use Spanish in everyday situations. She always gives her best effort, and it has been rewarding to see her enthusiasm and confidence in the language grow throughout the year. Her love for Jesus and others is evident in her words and actions. Even when she is tired and frustrated, she puts a smile on her face and has a kind word for others. She is already making an impact on those around her, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this year’s underclassman award recipient, Sophie Fransen.
Math Department Award (Mrs. Amanda Mellor)
The math award recipients are not merely solvers of equations or memorizers of
formulas but true enthusiasts who thrive on the beauty and elegance of mathematics. These students have demonstrated an exceptional aptitude in math and an eagerness to delve into challenging problems and explore advanced topics independently. Additionally, these students are always willing to assist others to understand difficult concepts and foster a collaborative spirit among their peers. Finally, both students exhibit perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges. They view setbacks as opportunities for growth and always seem even more motivated to learn and improve. The recipients of this year’s math award are Audrey Fransen and Zak Wright.
Science Department Award (Dr. Lisa Longridge)
Criteria for High School Science – Outstanding Student
- Demonstrates persistence and diligence in the science classroom.

- Initiates individual science projects or demonstrates interest in going beyond the regular classroom activities and assignments.
Verena Shatby has earned the recognition and respect of her science teachers over her high school years for her consistent engagement and enthusiasm for the subject. Each day, she comes into class eager to learn and apply difficult concepts. She pursues every task, whether mundane or monumental, with excellence. Her humble spirit puts everyone at ease, and she is encouraging to others around her. She has shown yourself to be worthy of this recognition due to her diligence and consistent hard work. In addition, she is a light in this world, and I encourage her to never be ashamed of her knowledge, wisdom and faith in God. I know the Lord has great things in store for her, may He richly bless her as she pursues her goals beyond CCS and wherever her academic path takes her.
Cailea Chalton has consistently exhibited an unwavering pursuit of knowledge and
the ability to apply this knowledge to problem solving in the science classroom. She took special care to go above and beyond the usual assignments, challenging herself to go the extra mile to ensure understanding. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, and her teachers want to recognize her perseverance and willingness to work hard.
My prayer for both of you is that you will continue to grow in knowledge and wisdom. The verse that comes to mind is Proverbs 18:15 – The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. Both of you have proven yourselves to be wise in always wanting to learn and listening closely to gain knowledge. On behalf of the science faculty at CCS, thank you both for your excellent work this year, and congratulations!
STEM Award (Dr. Chris Witschonke)
The student selected has taken at least three STEM courses between the disciplines of engineering and computer science. During their time in these courses the student has shown themselves to be a critical thinker, a problem solver, and a team player. They enjoy tackling difficult problems and look for a variety of innovative solutions rather than settling on the first idea most others see. Perhaps most importantly, they seek to use their gifts and talents in this area to honor their Heavenly Father. This year’s recipient is Andrew Owen.
Fine Arts Awards
Fine Arts Department Award (Mrs. Kiley Harris)
Our first fine arts award recipient this evening is Micah Humphrey. Micah joined the Cypress Christian family only this year and has made himself an integral part of what makes CCS Performing Arts culture so special. Last year before enrolling at Cypress Christian, he was the drummer in the CCS worship band, City on a Hill. Micah has now served as the drummer for City on a Hill for two consecutive years. This year Micah has expanded his God-given talents through his work as a leader in the CCS Chamber Choir. He is quick to understand musical concepts and apply them, his appetite for music insatiable. He has joined the strings ensemble and yielded his talents as a cellist. And furthermore, this year Micah auditioned and was cast at the lead role of Beast in the CCS spring musical, Beauty and the Beast. Micah consistently shows up to each class and rehearsal fully prepared. He has excelled in reading music and helped lead his choral section to receive the highest ranking in TAPPS State Sight-Reading contest. Through newly found acting skills, Micah wowed audiences with his portrayal of Disney’s Beast. Micah enters rehearsal each day with a positive attitude, open and eager to learn and lead. He has managed to excel in all these areas this year while balancing a strenuous athlete’s and church leadership team’s schedule. When getting to know Micah, one quickly sees his love for the Lord and his passion to serve Him. We cannot wait to see what Micah does next year as a senior leader on campus. Congratulations, Micah! You are truly a beast in the best sense of the word, and we honor you tonight for your strength, courage, faith, and for saying “yes” when God calls.
This year’s second recipient for the Fine Arts Department Award is Delaney Wimsatt. Delaney has created some extraordinary pieces this year while building her AP art portfolio. She exhibits a detailed focus on craftsmanship and outside-the-box creativity through these works. Several of her pieces have been displayed throughout the year to serve as an inspiration for her fellow artists as well as
to reflect the high standards of the CCS Art Department. Delaney is an active member of the National Art Honor Society and was an integral part of helping set up artwork this year at TAPPS. She earned recognition at TAPPS by placing at the State competition in both the seek and sketch and Painting categories. Congratulations, Delaney, on making such a strong impact this year in the fine arts department. Your talent and tenacity are an inspiration to your peers and teachers. It will be exciting to see how God uses your artistic talents in the future.
And finally, we honor Ashleigh Townsend for her excellence and leadership in
the CCS Performing Arts. Ashleigh has been involved in the fine arts since her arrival to CCS her freshman year and has been a star performer and mentor within both the choir and theatre programs. This year, Ashleigh has helped to organize the CCS chapel worship team, is a second-year member of City on a Hill, a member of the CCS Chamber Choir, and has been involved as an actress for every theatre arts main stage performance for the last four years. Ashleigh has made herself an integral part of every production at CCS and this year was cast as BELLE in Beauty and the Beast. Ashleigh has served as the president for the International Thespian Society on campus for the last year, and as a senior, she has the drive, determination, and passion for everything that she puts her mind to, with a
stamina that rivals that of many adults. Ashleigh was elected this year by her peers to serve as CCS Choir’s Vice-President. Her ability to plan, problem solve and vision-cast make her a natural leader amongst her peers in choir, and with her enthusiasm in each rehearsal, Ashleigh brings her fellow choir members together, uniting them in each task at hand with joy and boundless energy. Ashleigh has shown what it means to lead courageously and guide her fellow students in their walks as singers, actors, performers and, most importantly, believers in Christ. She has been a part of fostering success in every organization that she has been a part of for the past four years. Ashleigh has made her mark on the Fine Arts program at CCS, and we cannot wait to see the impact that she makes on her community, university, and her generation. Congratulations, Ms. Townsend!

Valiant Warrior Award
We gather to celebrate the culmination of another remarkable athletic season and
have the distinct honor of recognizing one of our own for her exceptional contributions both on and off the field. The Valiant Warrior is the highest Athletic Award given at Cypress Christian School. This award is given to a senior who exhibits “Excellence in Athletics, Leadership, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement and Integrity” while participating in sports at CCS. The female recipient this year began her journey as a Warrior in Kindergarten, where she first demonstrated her unwavering dedication to excellence. Over the years, she has become an integral part of our school community, participating in a multitude of activities, most notably being the greatest powder puff quarterback that CCS has ever seen. In all seriousness, she has garnered a plethora of TAPPS accolades. She has received First Team All-District honors eight times, Honorable Mention All-State two times, Second Team All-State two times, First Team All-State four times, softball All-State Tournament Team two times, softball TAPPS Division III District MVP two times and named “Team MVP” eight times. She led her softball team to the Final Four all four years of high school and the school’s first State Championship title in 2023.
This year, she helped lead her team to the State Championship game again,
where the Warriors finished as State Runner-Up. In both basketball and softball, it is obvious that her prowess knows no bounds. Year after year, she has garnered recognition from opponents and fans, showcasing her exceptional talent and unwavering commitment to greatness. Yet, it is not merely her athletic prowess that sets her apart, but her remarkable character and selfless leadership. Her calming presence and steady guidance have been a source of strength for her teammates, especially in moments of adversity. Her ability to lead by example, with a heart full of compassion and humility, has earned her the respect and admiration of all who know her. As captain of both the basketball and softball teams, she has not only led her teammates on the field and court but has also served as a beacon of inspiration and support to those around her. Her selflessness extends far beyond the confines of the sports arena. Her willingness to go the extra mile, quite literally, by taking underclassmen home from practice and games, picking teammates up for church, carrying equipment and cleaning the bus after every road trip exemplifies her servant’s heart and unwavering commitment to caring for others. Whether on the field or in the community, her acts of kindness and generosity leave an indelible mark on all who are fortunate enough to cross her path.
As we honor her as the Valiant Warrior, let us celebrate her remarkable athletic achievements, extraordinary character, and servant leadership. She embodies the very essence of what our portrait of a Cypress Christian School athlete is, demonstrating integrity, compassion and selflessness in all that she does. Your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, and we are immensely proud to call you one of our own. It is a great honor to present this year’s female Valiant Warrior Award to #5, Miss Sarah Olenick.
Valiant Warrior Award
The young man selected for our Valiant Warrior Award personifies the description of this award. From an athletic standpoint, part of exhibiting excellence for this award is both being a multi-sport athlete and demonstrating a consistent level of performance that contributes in a big way to the success of each sport. He has always made a significant impact in all his varsity sports, even in some cases, at the State level. He was a four-year track athlete; on two teams that won district championships and was a regional qualifier one year and a state qualifier his senior year. In basketball throughout his career, he earned — Second Team All-District two years and First Team All-District Honors two of his four years. As a junior and senior, he was named CCS’s Outstanding Offensive Player for varsity basketball, was First Team All-District and earned the team MVP award. In football, his sophomore year, he was selected for the District Newcomer Award. As a junior, he was selected as the District Defensive MVP. Ultimately, in his varsity football career, he was a three-year varsity starter and a three-year All-State selection, played in three State Championship games in four years and during that run, was on a State Championship winning team. Besides being a big contributor in each of his sports, he was a multi-season Academic All-State selection. That is when a student is a First Team All-District selection while maintaining all A’s academically, for that respective season. While this is an impressive athletic resume, the most impressive thing about this young man is his Christian character, which has never been questioned by any of his teammates, faculty or a coach, on the CCS campus, and for good reason. This young man is the walking personification of integrity. At no time has he ever as a Warrior, nor would he misrepresent his school, his parents or the Lord Jesus Christ, either in word or deed. Regardless of the situation in any athletic contest. If I had to narrow it down, perhaps this young man’s number one attribute across all areas is his ability to have consistent performance. You know what you are going to get every game. The ability to be in the right place at the right time and execute, over and over and over throughout his career, from preseason installs to the State Championship games, his teammates and coaches can attest to that consistency of performance, it’s a reliability factor that gives everyone associated with him confidence, and part of being a great teammate, is making those around you better. This consistency is present in his Christian walk, in the hallways, in the locker room, in practice, and on game day. In other words, he led by example. This award is given to a senior who exhibits Excellence in Athletics, Leadership, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement and Integrity while participating in sports at CCS. I think you can see that this year’s recipient clearly exhibits each of these characteristics and, by virtue of being a three-sport athlete, did so without ever having the luxury of an “off-season”! He represents the kind of graduate profile that everyone associated with CCS can be proud of. He is the 2023/2024 Valiant Warrior Award recipient…He is: Owen Witschonke.

The qualifications for Academic All-State for team sports are to be a junior or senior who made the first or second All-District team with a 3.5 or better GPA. Class of 2024
The class of 2024 began the next chapter in their lives after their commencement ceremony on Friday, May 24, 2024. Their minds and hearts were full of memories from their time at Cypress Christian School.
They will forever be thankful for the individuals who sacrificed to provide a wonderful experience for them at CCS. They are blessed to recall teachers, coaches, friends, fun experiences, times of challenge and growth and carry these remembrances with them into the future as they step into a new season of life. They say, “Thank you to those who spent countless hours investing their time and knowledge into them, meticulously developing hard-working and God-fearing men and women. They say, “Thank you to our parents for prioritizing a Christian environment that instilled unwavering Christian values and for demonstrating them at home. We have immense gratitude for the steps you have taken to ensure we would leave high school with academics grounded in biblical values. You helped guide us in the Lord’s ways through thick and thin and stood by us as we stressed about the future.”
Footprint Recipients
Students who attended CCS from kindergarten through their senior year were recognized for the footprints they have left on the hearts of those at CCS throughout their K-12 educational career. Valedictorian & Salutatorian
Valedictorian: Keaton Barbisch earned the distinguished honor of being named Valedictorian for achieving the highest grade point average in his class, and was awarded the Faculty Scholarship for Academic Excellence. Keaton will attend Baylor University in the fall. His life verse is James 1:2-4 – Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Salutatorian: Marko Micic earned the title of Salutatorian for achieving the second highest grade point average among his peers. Marko will attend Texas A&M University this fall. His life verse is Psalm 23:6 – Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Spirit of Paul Scholarship
The Spirit of Paul Scholarship was established to encourage students to develop and display the driving spirit and perseverance of the Apostle Paul, who accomplished much for the early church. The recipient of this award has exhibited that same drive and perseverance. This CCS scholarship is funded by donations given to CCS in memory of loved ones. This year’s scholarship is given to Will Simcik. Will will attend Texas A&M University in the fall. His life verse is 1 Chronicles 16:23-24 – Sing to the Lord, all the earth! Tell of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!
Will Rhodes Athletic Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of CCS Student William David Rhodes. Each year there are two recipients: one male and one female. The recipients of this award are CCS students who make public profession of their faith in Jesus Christ, who demonstrate Christ-like behavior to fellow students and athletes, and whose lives are living witnesses to others as they lead their teams and follow their coaches. This year’s recipients are Claire Johnson and Luke Wisenbaker. Claire will attend Baylor University this fall. Her life verse is Isaiah 41:10 – Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Luke will attend the University of Mississippi this fall. His life verse is Colossians 2:14-15 – By canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him.
Andrew Gladney ('05) Memorial Heart of Gold Scholarship
The Andrew Gladney Heart of Gold Memorial Scholarship was established to recognize a graduating senior who, much like the alum the scholarship memorializes, has a “Heart of Gold” – loving and accepting all, inside and outside the community of CCS. One who strives to do their very best; participates wholeheartedly in activities to reflect Christian character and sportsmanship; and diligently pursues and excels academically according to their ability. The recipient of this year’s award truly embodies and has continually and faithfully demonstrated each one of these character traits during their time here at CCS. This year, the Andrew Gladney Heart of Gold Memorial Scholarship is presented to Ashleigh Townsend. Ashleigh will attend Texas A&M University. Her life verse is Matthew 5:16 – Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Linwood Brown Memorial Scholarship
Linwood Brown spent most of his adult life faithfully serving in the classroom teaching mathematics. Mr. Brown left a legacy of peace. 1 Timothy 6:6 says, Godliness with contentment is great gain. Therefore, it makes sense to award the Linwood Brown Scholarship to a student who exemplifies that same peace. This student was often observed helping her peers with difficult math problems and participating in class discussions with a quiet fortitude. Her compassion for others was reminiscent of one who knows the Lord. This year, the recipient of the Linwood Brown Scholarship is Kynsie Ramirez. Kynsie will attend the University of North Florida this fall. Her life verse is Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
Faculty Scholarship for Academic Excellence
The Faculty Scholarship for Academic Excellence was founded to give the faculty of CCS the opportunity to recognize graduating seniors who have demonstrated outstanding effort to achieve overall academic excellence.
The recipient of the Faculty Scholarship for 2024 is Keaton Barbisch.
Fine Arts Scholarship
Cypress Christian School has a rich heritage of producing students who excel in the areas of music, art and drama. The Fine Arts Scholarship reflects an overall excellence in the arts. This year’s recipients are Rayne Harris and Robby Mynes. Rayne will attend Abilene Christian University this fall. Her life verse is Romans 14:8 – For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. Robby will attend Oklahoma Baptist University this fall. His life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
Elizabeth Buck Memorial Scholarship
The Elizabeth Buck scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates high interest in the area of design and architecture. Elizabeth Buck was awarded a scholarship in 1948 to attend college in Massachusetts for interior design. She decided to follow her heart to marry a man she had known for her entire life and passed away right before their 64th anniversary. Throughout her life she was able to use her skill and knowledge to make each home a place of welcome and friendship. Her granddaughter is a teacher at Cypress Christian School and three of her great grandchildren are currently attending to learn more about making their decisions based on faith and family. The family of Elizabeth hope that through this scholarship her Christian character and love of family and friends will help others use their skill and knowledge to make homes and buildings a place of welcome. This year’s recipient is Regina Hernandez-Rodriguez. Regina will attend Universidad Anahuac in the fall. Her life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.
Travis Chaffin Memorial Scholarship
Travis Chaffin was a student at Cypress Christian School who loved the Lord with all his heart, and he loved the sport of baseball. To his classmates and teammates, he was an encourager, a leader, a great athlete and a friend. To his teachers, Travis was a gifted student and someone who worked hard to achieve his very best. To everyone he came into contact with, Travis was a shining light for Christ. The scholarship is awarded to a student who shares in these attributes and that has the potential to make an impact on this world with their own Christian walk. This year, we honor Drew Mestayer who exemplifies these attributes. Drew will attend East Texas Baptist University this fall. His life verse is Romans 12:1 – I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Tammy Otts Memorial Scholarship
The Tammy Otts Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Tammy Otts and the impact that she had on her many students and families during the 10 plus years that she taught at Cypress Christian School. Mrs. Otts had three children who graduated from CCS. Although we were saddened by her passing on June 14, 2022, we are delighted that she is now in the presence of God. The Tammy Otts Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will be pursuing a degree in education. This year’s recipient is Brody Johnson. Brody will attend Oklahoma Baptist University this fall. His life verse is Matthew 7:12 – So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Cy-Fair Women's Club Scholarship
The Cy-Fair Women’s Club offers college scholarships to seniors (both male and female) who reside in Cypress Fairbanks ISD boundaries and are graduating at any CFISD high school, home school or private school — and plan to attend, on a full-time basis, an accredited two or four-year college, university or technical school. The Cy-Fair Women’s Club is dedicated to helping the community through fundraising for worthwhile organizations who serve others. Successful candidates for this scholarship should demonstrate a strong commitment to serve others, as well as academic achievements, involvement in their school, leadership qualities and personal character. The primary focus of this scholarship is to award students who give back to their community through community service. The Cy-Fair Women’s Club Scholarship is awarded to Brayden Stovall. Brayden will attend Texas A&M University this fall. His life verse is Psalm 40:2-3 – He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. Elementary Summer Camps
We are excited to offer several summer camps for elementary students. Each session will be held at CCS and all supplies needed are included in the camp fee. All grade levels listed are the grade the student will enter in the 2024-2025 school year.
Elementary Art Summer Camps
Wearable Art: Entering Grades 1 & 2, June 3-6, 8:30-10 a.m., Cost: $130
Students will be designing bucket hats, drawstring bags, capes and socks. Students will be working with different fabric mediums such as tie-dye and fabric markers. All projects will be taken home on the last day.
Mixed Media: Entering Grades 2 & 3, June 3-6, 10-11:30 a.m., Cost: $135
Students will be working with several types of mediums each day. Students will be painting bird houses, making flat sand art designs, and designing and filling a kaleidoscope. All projects will be taken home on the last day.
Cricut 101: Entering Grades 4-6, June 3-6, 12-1:30 p.m., Cost: $150
Students will learn the basics of the Cricut software. They will design, cut out and apply designs for a water bottle, beach towel and t-shirt. All projects will be taken home on the last day.

Robotics: Entering Grades 2 & 3, June 3-6, 12-1: 30 p.m., Cost: $100
Students will be building Lego robots and will learn how to code them to run a simple program. At the end of this camp, students will show their parents what they created and coded the robot to do. *Robots belong to CCS.
Coding: Entering Grades 3-6, June 3-6, 8:30-10 a.m., Cost: $100
Students will learn more about Scratch. They will create different games using coding. At the conclusion of the camp, they will be able to play their games at home using Scratch.
3D Printing: Entering Grades 4-6, June 3-6, 10-11:30 a.m. Cost: $130
Students will learn more about Tinkercad and other 3D programs. They will create fun projects that will be printed and take home at least two at the end of the camp.

Physical Changes & Reactions: Entering Grades 3 & 4, June 17-20, 12:30-2 p.m., Cost: $130
Students will explore physical changes and reactions involving food. Students will apply data collection, graphing skills and writing conclusions. Students will make predictions and compare data to outcomes.
Elementary Physical Education Summer Camps
Team Building: Entering Grades K-2, July 8-11, 1–3 p.m., Cost: $125
Students will enjoy a variety of team-building activities such as “moving day” parachute games and many other games that not only help with team-building skills but also help build core strength and flexibility. All equipment for this camp will be provided by CCS.
Fun and Games: Entering Grades 3-5, July 15-18, 1–3 p.m., Cost: $125
Students will be performing a pre-workout stretch routine followed by fun relay races to warm up their bodies. Students will perform a combination of dodgeball games, mat ball (a form of baseball), noodle hockey, capture the flag, etc. All equipment for this camp will be provided by CCS.

Next Step Breakfast 2023
Cypress Christian School’s annual Next Step Fundraising Breakfast took place on April 25, 2023, inviting guests to learn about the positive impact the school has on students’ lives and how their financial support can help sustain the school’s mission. Mike Slabic, CCS Board Chairman, welcomed the attendees, reminding them of the school’s 45-year history and the foundation built by those who came before. Emily Muse, a CCS sophomore, gave a beautiful blessing to open the event, setting a tone of gratitude and reflection.
The event included musical performances by the third-grade choir, directed by Elementary Music Teacher Tania Overton, and the Chamber Choir, directed by Amber Ward. The choirs’ performances reminded attendees of God’s promise of salvation and captivated the audience with their beautiful harmonies.
2007 CCS alumna Keeley Lambert Jones shared her powerful testimony of how the school provided her with a strong foundation in truth and faith, allowing her to thrive in mission work in Los Angeles and New York. Despite being thrown into a world that was the opposite of what she had known at CCS, Keeley proclaimed her strength and the importance of surrounding herself with others deeply pursuing God. She introduced a new I am a Warrior video showcasing past years’ videos that highlighted the school’s faithfulness to its mission.
Dr. Jeff Potts followed the impactful video with a validation of the continued success the school was enjoying. Dr. Potts stressed the importance of educating the youngest generation in biblical values while achieving academic excellence, noting that there had never been a more critical time in history to do so. He acknowledged the hard work of the faculty, staff and students that contribute to the school’s continued success.
Coach Kris Hogan delivered the keynote speech, emphasizing the importance of Christian education, particularly in a time where popular culture can only be described as hostile. Coach Hogan expressed his gratitude for Christian education more than ever before. He closed with a powerful reminder that God doesn’t use everyone, but He always uses the right ones. The school’s calling, he stated, is to build up the right ones.
The breakfast was a wonderful opportunity for attendees to learn about the school’s work and contributions. Cypress Christian School is grateful for the attendees’ generous support, which helps maintain and improve academic excellence. If you were unable to attend but still wish to contribute, please contact Craig Soudelier to receive a video copy of the program and a pledge card.

Beauty & the Beast
The Cypress Christian School Theatre and Music Departments treated audiences to an amazing production of "Beauty and the Beast" on March 7, 8 and 9 at The MET Church.
Every aspect of this show was bigger, brighter and more powerful than previous productions. “Beauty and the Beast” encouraged audience members with a message that encouraged hospitality, positive relationships and perseverance. The show included 62 actors (grades 4-12), 21 tech students and four directors.
The main roles of Belle (Ashleigh Townsend, grade 12), Beast (Micah Humphrey, grade 11), Gaston (Robbie Mynes, grade 12), Lumiere (Jackson Broussard, grade 12), Cogsworth (David Romero, grade 11), Mrs. Potts (Rayne Harris, grade 12), Chip (Harmony Smalls, grade 7), LeFou (Aidan Salazar, grade 10), Madame de la Grande Bouche (Nicole Santos, grade 11) and Babette (Emily Muse, grade 11), were supported by the fantastic cast of silly girls, townspeople, enchanted objects, wolves and gargoyles. Patrons in attendance of the show were wowed with amazing costumes, projections, acting and vocals! Every aspect of the show allowed students to shine and glorify God with their talents.
We could not have done the show without the support of our amazing families who provided many of our props and costume pieces as well as financial support and encouragement. Thanks also to The MET Church for allowing us to use their facilities for the week and for their hospitality.

Dear Cypress Christian School Families,
As the Christmas season approaches, we rejoice in the immeasurable gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ. This joyful time invites us to reflect on His goodness, and our recent Christmas Program beautifully showcased our students’ God-given talents while reminding us of the true reason for the season. This year has been nothing short of extraordinary at Cypress Christian School! From our Warrior Drumline earning State Runner-Up honors to the launch of 4-H Robotics and Archery, from the swim team breaking three school records to our elementary students sending 275 Operation Christmas Child boxes to children around the world, our community has celebrated countless milestones. Most importantly, we praise God for students across campus placing their faith in Jesus, a testament to His faithfulness as we look ahead with excitement to the opening of our Bridgeland campus for the 2025-2026 school year!
The re-enrollment period for the 2025-2026 school year runs from Wednesday, January 8 through Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Current families can secure their child’s spot with a $100 discount per student on re-enrollment fees during this window. After this time, open seats will be offered to new families. No tuition is due in January—only re-enrollment fees.

Re-enrollment Dates and Guidelines
Protected re-enrollment dates: January 8-22, 2025
During this protected period, current families are given a discounted rate on re-enrollment fees and are given the opportunity to secure their child(ren)’s place on next year’s class rolls.
- Only students whose family account is current are eligible to re-enroll.
- After January 22, 2025, full re-enrollment fees apply, and open seats are offered to new students who have successfully completed the application process.
Re-enrollment is finished, and your children are placed into a class only after the re-enrollment application is submitted. Re-enrollment fees are non-refundable.
Note: You will receive an immediate acceptance email once the re-enrollment application is submitted. Continued acceptance is conditioned upon (i) student maintaining acceptable academic and conduct standards in current year; (ii) all tuition and fees for the current year being paid in a timely manner and (iii) payment of first tuition payment for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year being tendered on time to CCS in accordance with selected FACTS payment plan.

Before You Begin
- You will need to know your FACTS Family Portal login in order to complete the re-enrollment application.
- If you do not have a login, please follow the Instructions for Creating a FACTS Family Portal Login listed below.
- The FACTS online process requires that only one parent be given re-enrollment rights for each student to avoid duplication. The default setting provides this right to the mother. If you need to change this setting prior to beginning the re-enrollment process for your student(s), please email Laurie Sanders and provide the name(s) of the student(s) for whom you are requesting this change.
NOTE: It is recommended that the application be completed using a desktop or laptop computer.
Steps for Re-enrollment
- Click here to go to FACTS Family Portal. You may also go to FactsMgt.com/Parents, click the drop-down arrow next to Parent Log In at the top of the page and select FACTS Family Portal (ParentsWeb).
- Enter CCCS-HOU in the District Code field, your User Name and Password.
- Click on the Apply/Enroll button in the left menu.
- Click on the Enrollment/Re-enrollment button and complete your student’s application.
- Set up FACTS payment schedule for 2024-2025 tuition payments within the application for re-enrollment.
- Submit the re-enrollment application by paying the fee online.
NOTE: Your information will be saved if you need to quit and come back later.

Also known as a course management system or virtual learning environment, the cloud-based platform provides tools to manage any classroom or blended learning environment.
Technology to be used in Grades 1-5
Schoology is the tool that teachers will use to keep you up to date on the work that your student is doing in class. Schoology will be used to communicate what homework is assigned weekly. It will be a place for teachers to provide resources for studying and working with your children on their assignments. It will be where parents and students can see when any upcoming tests or quizzes will be given. Schoology will be updated regularly on a weekly basis.

The school’s dress code is designed to a) promote the decorum and dignity of our academic mission, b) promote unity of purpose within the student body and c) support biblical principles of modesty and distinction of genders. Supporting the school and coming to school each day with clothing in compliance with the dress code is the responsibility of both the student and the parent. Dress code violations will be recorded and repeated violations will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
Students are required to purchase the following uniform pieces through FlynnO’Hara or Lands’ End School Uniforms from the list of items specifically approved by CCS and compliant with current CCS uniform code: shirts, blouses, jumpers and skirts. Students may purchase pants or shorts from FlynnO’Hara or Lands’ End School Uniforms from the same list or may wear a replicate. Students may wear blue jeans or uniform bottoms and CCS spirit wear on Fridays.
*Parker Uniforms: CCS Parker uniforms that comply with current dress code standards and are in good condition may continue to be worn.

Approved Outerwear
Students may wear CCS-approved outerwear. This includes outerwear purchased via a uniform provider or in the Warrior Warehouse that is navy, Columbia blue, white or gray. Outerwear provided by CCS athletics is also allowed any day during the school week and may include sweatshirts, hoodies, cage jackets or jackets in navy, Columbia blue, white or gray. Hoods may not be worn in buildings. All outerwear garments must be neat in appearance, appropriately sized and worn over approved CCS uniform shirts or clothing. Heavy coats may be worn to and from school but should be kept in locker during school hours.

Alumni Pastors Attend CCS Pastor Appreciation Luncheon
October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and we are grateful for our alumni pastors’ service to our community. On October 17, CCS hosted a Pastor Appreciation Luncheon. Alumni Pastors Cody Chaffin (‘13) and Evan Weppler (‘07) were in attendance among a total of 53 pastors from 32 area churches. Cody is the Student Discipleship Minister at Cy-Fair Christian Church, and Evan is the Elementary Children’s Pastor at Cypress Bible Church.
Cody, Evan and our guest pastors were greeted by the CCS students who invited them, and they enjoyed a short time visiting together. Following a quick photo with students, the pastors were ushered into the East Gym Lobby for a meal and a message from Executive Director Dr. Jeff Potts. It was a privilege to honor these two alumni and their fellow area pastors who have dedicated their lives to the service of the Lord through serving their churches and our community.
Note: We’d like to also like to recognize alumnus Sarah Mathewes (’06) who is the Children’s & Christian Education Pastor at Houston First Church of God.

On Saturday, July 22, more than 100 Warrior alumni, family members and volunteers enjoyed a fun time reuniting on the CCS campus!
Warriors from years past gathered together to reunite on the CCS campus before the move to Bridgeland next year! There were countless hugs given, lots of memories shared, lots of laughter and joy, and lots of smiles for the camera! What a wonderful event to celebrate our Warrior heritage and all God has done in our lives through Cypress Christian School.
Thanks to everyone who attended and helped make this Cypress Christian School Alumni Reunion such a fun one.

In August of each year, members of the most recent graduating class meet on campus for a special yearbook signing party and college send-off. Graduates enjoy refreshments while reminiscing about their senior year and signing each other’s yearbook. Each alumnus is given a college survival bag filled with caffeine and sugar!

CyChristian Homecoming ’23 was GREAT! We “welcomed home” 60 alumni plus their families and friends, and we all enjoyed delicious food and fellowship together throughout the evening. On Friday, October 29, CCS welcomed home Warrior alumni and families to the 2021 homecoming alumni event. Alumni from the class of 1999 through the class of 2021 and their family members gathered together in the alumni area of the stadium for delicious food, fellowship and prizes. Each alumnus was greeted by former teachers and staff and given a gift card to Starbucks, Whataburger or Chick-fil-A , and four blessed alumni won $25 Amazon gift cards. Congratulations to the grand prize winners: Evan McClintock (’12), Allison White Ratkey (’15), Rebekah Kooiman (’20) and Carson Lacaze (’21). At halftime, the alumni posed for a group photo on the Warrior football field. Thanks to our supporters and volunteers for making this a very special Warrior alumni event!

Homecoming 2020
Warrior alumni came from near and far to enjoy time on the CCS campus at this year’s homecoming game. Alumni had a great time visiting with former classmates and teachers, enjoying fall snacks and watching the Warriors beat Brazos Christian.
Each alumnus received a gift card and four former students won an additional prize – a $25 Amazon gift card. Congratulations to Emily Fredrickson Echols (’16), Katherine Echols (’17), Catrina Beaty Hull (’09) and Rachael Lechman (’99).

The 2019-2020 Warrior Alumni Homecoming event was held on Friday, October 11, 2019, and had the highest alumni attendance in school history. Former students and their families (105+) braved the cold to “come home to CCS!” We really enjoyed having these special Warriors back on campus – getting to visit with them, getting lots of hugs, meeting their friends and family members, serving them delicious food and awarding gift cards and prizes. Thanks to everyone who attended and thanks to our dedicated volunteers including alumni parent Shannon Moore who took our annual alumni photo.

Classes
Audio Video Production (ELE1116)
Students will learn about film and digital media as well as the use of professional techniques and editing styles to display their ideas and highlight their God-given talents. Students will also learn about different professions in the audio and video production fields and how to work collaboratively to become a successful film artist. Students will make their ideas come alive through effective planning, filming and editing. Students will also learn to select, analyze and create content ranging from: stop motion, chase scene, short film, news stories and many other interesting pieces of introductory film projects.
Choir (MUS0968)
Students will have the opportunity to sing about God’s truth and explore a variety of cultures through sacred and secular vocal music. Students will receive instruction in and demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of music theory, sight-singing and proper vocal technique through challenging vocal repertoire and many performance settings. The students will learn how to sing and perform regularly as a unified ensemble.
Art Photography (ART1000)
Students will be introduced to the basics of capturing a story or event through pictures. Many of the photographs taken by the students will then be used in school promotional materials, on the school website or in the school yearbook. Student’s grade will be based on participation and a willingness to take photographs at several co-curricular events throughout the school year.

It provides a variety of experiences that build on the concepts, techniques and use of media introduced in the middle school program. Generally laboratory in nature, this program explores and gives experience in two-dimensional (drawing, painting, printmaking) and three-dimensional (sculpture, clay, wood, wire, textiles, plaster) formats and integrates art history, design principles and aesthetic criticism and response. Students will be graded based on participation.

AP Studio Art (ART1225)
Students will apply the basics of painting from technique to composition while working from still life and photographs. Any 2-D medium is possible: acrylics, pastels, watercolor or oil pastels. This is a foundational art class that will cover 2-D drawing skills. This course develops student’s observation skills through experimentation with various approaches, styles, techniques and media. Students will draw from still life set-ups, photographs and a live model. Drawing instruments include pencil, charcoal and colored pencils.
Upon completion of the course, qualifying students will have the opportunity to gain college credit through the AP Studio Art test administered by the College Board. The $100 fee will be charged to the student’s account at the beginning of the school year.
Drama (DRM0964)
This class is an introduction to theatre and acting as an art form. Students will learn the basics of creating a character, scene work, working with a group, stage directions, writing a scene, production roles and some technical work. These students will prepare and perform the homecoming skit. This class may or may not include a proper play performance, but there will be an opportunity for these students to perform.
Advanced Drama (DRM1007)
This class will be involved in producing the TAPPS One Act Play in the fall. Each student will be required to play some sort of role in the OAP (cast, alternate or technician). Students enrolled in this class will also be required to be involved in the CCS Talent Show and required to audition for the all-school musical. In the spring semester, students will be required to prepare a piece for consideration at the TAPPS State Speech Meet. This will include competing at an invitational meet sometime in January or February and performing at Drama & Desserts.
Theater Arts Tech (TA1000)
This class will learn the foundations of lighting, stage building and theater management.
Digital Art (ART1164)
Students will combine the skills of photography and journalism and expand on both skills during the school year. Students will be responsible for the production of the school yearbook. Student’s grade will be based on participation.

Cypress Christian School participates in the West Houston Christian Sports Association. The philosophy of the league is to promote understanding of the game, as well as sportsmanship and Christian fellowship. Each participating family is expected to provide Christian support, care and encouragement to all other participants, families, coaches and officials that they may come into contact with during the course of the season. Cypress Christian School participates in the West Houston Christian Sports Association. Cypress Christian offers basketball every winter for students currently enrolled in grades 4 and 5. Teams will be formed in the first week of December and practices will begin the week after Christmas break. The first games will be played on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

At CCS, we believe in developing exercise prescriptions based on the demands of high-level athletics. For every athlete, an offseason, preseason and in-season training protocol is created to maximize strength, hypertrophy, power output, speed, flexibility, agility, body composition and to develop motor patterns appropriate to the activities for which the athlete is being trained. Nutritional strategies are also implemented to prepare athletes for each phase of their training. With these protocols and series of events in place, students are mentally and physically prepared for each phase of their competition year and the demands associated with it.
Preparation for DI, DII, and DIII collegiate athletics is also at the center of the program. At Cypress Christian, we are always learning and developing our craft. We strive to use the most up-to-date, effective programming possible to develop our athletes and prepare them for the high demands of next-level athletics.
Building elite athletes takes a team, and we are thankful for all the amazing coaches at CCS who care deeply about the athletes.

Dr. Allen taught math and science for six years prior to moving to administration. For the past 14 years, she has been in various administration roles at the elementary and secondary levels in public and private schools. Most recently she served as the elementary principal and Exceptional Student Education Director (ESE) K-12 for Berean Christian School in West Palm Beach, FL. Dr. Allen has a desire to ensure that students feel loved and cared for while receiving a top-notch education in a Christ-centered environment. Alicia Griffiths is an Educational Therapist who works with exceptional students with learning differences to help them overcome challenges in their education. Alicia has spent over a decade facilitating National Institute of Learning Development (NILD) therapy with students ranging from preschool to seniors in high school. Alicia supports students by helping identify challenges while developing relationships with each student. She works closely with families, students and teachers to help each one of her students independently acquire a higher level of academic achievement.
Alicia’s passion for helping students began in 2006 at Orlando Christian Preparatory School. While working there, Alicia completed the first two of three certifications for Educational Therapy and Search and Teach through NILD.
Alicia moved to Texas in 2008 and worked part-time as an independent educational therapist before joining Cypress Christian School in August 2011. After joining CCS, Alicia completed her third level of certification in July 2012, attaining her professionally-certified educational therapist status.
Trained in Search and Teach techniques, Alicia supports younger children beginning school to address their academic differences with therapy before they transition into higher grade levels. She has additional training in RX Discovery Math, which teaches students to precisely develop the mathematics foundations of number sense, number fluency, math vocabulary and problem-solving strategies.
Alicia graduated with distinction with her Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on Human Resource Management in March 2007. She completed her second master’s degree in Exceptional Student Education with Dyslexia certification in December 2017. Alicia also obtained her professional certification in Dyslexia from the International Dyslexia Association in September 2016.
Alicia strives to build personal and spiritual relationships with each student. She believes every learner has a desire to succeed academically. She truly enjoys guiding each family and student and finds their academic success to be truly rewarding.
Alicia enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and dogs when at home. She volunteers her time overseeing the operations of her local swim team during the summer along with supporting her son’s and daughter’s athletic interests throughout the year. Alicia cherishes her time attending church and Bible study group. Her favorite verse is Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Cypress Christian School students have opportunities K-12 to explore STEM programs. Critical thinking and problem-solving weave throughout all subjects and are then given an outlet to practice these skills in STEM classes and electives.
Cypress Christian School is proud to offer a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum in elementary. PLTW is used to immerse students in energized, hands-on activities, projects and problems that build upon each other and relate to the real world. Students experience integrated learning that blends computer science, engineering, science and more. Throughout the modules, even the youngest learners apply their math and English language arts (ELA) skills, learn science to standards and adopt skills that are foundational across disciplines. Through PLTW modules, students are reminded of God’s unique design of the world and how all peoples are created in the image of God. Our STEM teachers link biblical truths to each module to point students towards a relationship with the One, true God.

Curriculum
BIBLE
Students learn about God through the lives of many characters throughout the Bible. Engaging activities are used to help students comprehend and apply Bible truths. Students memorize Scripture and learn Godly character traits each week. Students enjoy weekly chapel time to experience praise and worship. Prayer is a part of each day.
LANGUAGE ARTS
At CCS, we pursue a phonics-based approach to reading because we believe that the rules of phonics will provide students with the basic tools needed for decoding words. Reading groups are formed to individualize instruction so that every student can perform at his or her own pace.
Kindergarten is a time of preparation for reading and writing. The basic elements of phonics are developed and letter-sound associations are emphasized. Each student’s composition skills and creative writing are nurtured through daily writing workshops and the use of writing journals.
CCS uses the modern manuscript form of handwriting. Students learn basic printed letters and use them to form words and sentences. Our curriculum provides fun visual, auditory and kinesthetic strategies to teach correct letter formation.
MATHEMATICS
Exposure to mathematical concepts is lively and interactive. Students use a variety of manipulatives, such as teddy bear counters and unifix cubes to develop numerical concepts. In kindergarten, numbers and number sense, measurements, geometrical and spatial relationships, fractional concepts, graphing, sequencing/patterning, classification and probability are introduced. Students learn to tell time and are introduced to the skill of counting money. Students also learn single digit addition concepts, along with the reverse operation of subtraction.
SCIENCE | SOCIAL STUDIES
Students will study a variety of science topics that make them aware of the world around them. Students learn about science through the structure and function of design as it applies to the human body, animals, plants, matter and space. In social studies, kindergartners begin to learn about the world and the community around them. Teachers present various units throughout the school year to help develop their community awareness and the concept of cities, states and nations.
LIBRARY
Kindergartners visit the elementary library once a week for a library session and story with the librarian. Students participate in book selection, reading incentive programs, read-alouds, storytelling and creative activities. Students enjoy a welcoming atmosphere designed to incentivize the love of reading which includes visits to our book vending machine. The goal of the library is for students to engage in programming that will inspire a life-long love for reading.
COMPUTER
Students receive computer-assisted instruction in the technology lab once a week. Students will recognize that computers reflect God’s precise and orderly design. The computer skills taught are basic computer usage and knowledge using desktop computers and iPads. Our kindergarten students are introduced to typing with correct finger placement and basic coding using Scratch Jr. and Bee Bots. Each technology area is carefully designed to reinforce students’ learning in the core curricular subjects, as well as to develop their technology skills through step-by-step instruction.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
In P.E., children are encouraged to develop a love for fitness through movement, balance and coordination activities. Students participate in P.E. once a week. Through social interaction and team building, kindergarten students learn the value of Christian principles in competition.
Students in kindergarten also have the opportunity to go to P.E. Lab. It is designed to help children develop the skills necessary for learning readiness and mastery of their environment. It helps to improve the child’s ability to maneuver and function in their environment promoting high student performance in tasks such as handwriting, sitting still, paying attention, speaking and good behavior.
MUSIC
Kindergartners attend music class once a week. Our music teacher places a strong emphasis on worship, revealing what worship is and ways in which to worship through music. Students participate in music class by singing, moving, playing games and exploring various percussion instruments. Kindergarteners perform in programs throughout the year, such as the Christmas program, Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Mother’s Day chapel and kindergarten graduation.
ART
Students also attend art class once a week. The children are introduced to drawing simple lines and shapes. With this as a foundation, students begin to branch out into creating graphic designs, animals, plants and people. The goal is to instill an awe of God and learn how to celebrate the ability to create. They learn to value art as expressions of God’s creativity.

Spiritual Match
At least one parent must give a written account of how they came to know the Lord and be in agreement with the CCS Statement of Faith & Doctrine and the Mission Statement.

Students must have a record of good behavior.
Academic Match
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) – Students applying to transitional kindergarten (TK) are given a developmental assessment to determine developmental age and proper placement. There is also a required observation.
Kindergarten – Students applying to kindergarten are given a learning readiness screening and a developmental assessment to determine developmental age and proper placement. There is also a required observation.
Grade 1 – Students applying to grade 1 are given a learning readiness screening and a developmental assessment to determine developmental age and proper placement. They must also test on or above grade level on the reading and math sections of the CCS entrance exam and meet the minimum required reading level, to be determined by administration of the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessment.
Grades 2-5 – Students applying to grades 2-5 must test on or above grade level on the ISEE Test and meet the minimum required reading level for their grade, to be determined by administration of the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessment. Students are asked to provide standardized and/or achievement test scores if taken within one year of the application date.
Grades 6-12 – Students applying to grades 6-12 must test on or above grade level on the ISEE Test. Students are asked to provide standardized and/or achievement test scores if taken within one year of the application date.

Families will be informed of acceptance or denial of admission after the Admissions Committee reviews the information.

- Fencing surrounds the Cypress Christian School campus with gates that are closed during school hours.

Dr. Potts has over 20 years’ experience as a classroom teacher, coach and administrator. At previous schools, he has a proven track record of significantly improving the school’s financial footing while operating on two campuses; implementing systems to increase re-enrollment rates and leading the school through ACSI/AdvancedED accreditation. He was able to triple the merit-based college scholarships offered to graduating seniors during his tenure. Seeking to ensure graduates are better prepared to take on leadership roles in college and beyond, Dr. Potts began a partnership with Student Leadership University whereby he was able to take select students on international experiences to Jerusalem and Amman, Jordan. Dr. Potts has presented as a keynote speaker both nationally and internationally, is a published author and has previously served as a church elder and small group Bible study leader for over 10 years.

As the Director of Culture, Kris Hogan’s goal is to equip Christians and develop the next generation of leaders while partnering with like-minded parents. Kris Hogan has over 24 years of educational experience as a teacher, coach, administrator and athletic director. During his coaching tenure, he has seen teams capture 18 state championships in multiple sports, including football, track, baseball, softball, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball and swim. Coach Hogan has been the recipient of the National Sportsman of the Year Award presented by AT&T and a multiple-time recipient of a national Character in Coaching Award. In his many leadership positions, he has proven himself to be a born leader, team-builder, community connector and strategic planner with a strong track record of success in managing people, projects and technology. He is very active in the Cypress community and has served as a board member for the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce for six years and was Chairman of the Board in 2021. In addition, he has over 15 years of experience leading and attending Student Leadership University from 101 through 401. He is motivated to teach the next generation of men and women to pursue Christ and change the world.
Mr. Sells is committed to athletic excellence in both girls’ and boys’ sports and is nationally certified in sports strength and conditioning. As athletic director or coach, Sells’ teams have had great success, winning multiple district and state championships. He was an integral part of the staff and faculty that TAPPS twice awarded the Henderson Cup, awarded annually to the top overall school in each TAPPS classification.

Statement of Faith and Doctrine
What We Believe
- That the Bible is God’s inerrant Word in the original manuscripts and the only authority for doctrine and practice. (II Tim. 3:16).
- In the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit as revealed in the Bible. (Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14).
- That salvation from sin and judgment is a free gift, paid for by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ for all who repent of their sin and place their faith in Him as their Savior. (John 3:16; Rom. 10:9).
- In John 14:6, which states: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’”
- In the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and in the same resurrection to eternal life for all who are saved, while the unsaved will spend eternity in hell. (John 11:25-26; Mark 16:6; Matt. 28:5-6; Luke 24:6-7; I Cor. 15:3-4, 35-58; Rom. 6:5; John 5:28-29; Matt. 25:41).
- In the literal return of Jesus Christ. (John 14:3; Acts 1:11; I Thess. 4:16-17).
- That God, wonderfully, and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen. 1:26-27). Rejection of one’s biological sex as identified at birth is a rejection of God’s design for that person.
- That the term “marriage” has only one meaning in the original biblical context: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture (Gen. 2:18-25); that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4); that sexual relations outside of this (e.g. adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bestiality) are condemned as sinful and offensive to God (Ex. 22:19; Lev. 20:13; Rom. 1:26-27; I Cor. 6:9-10).
- That human life is of inestimable worth and should be valued, defended and protected from conception through natural death. (Ps. 139; Gen. 9:6; Rom. 13:4).

Education at Cypress Christian School is approached from a biblical perspective that recognizes the sovereignty and authority of God.
Attendant with this belief are a number of truths affirmed by the school:

God is transcendent, is spirit, and always acts in accordance with His loving and just nature. In addition, God in His Word places an eternal emphasis upon life. (Romans 11:36, II Corinthians 4:18, I John 2:15-17)

Men, and thus children, are created in the image of God and have unbounded potential to mirror the qualities and character of Jesus Christ. Further, man is born with a sin nature that has marred but not ruined God’s image in man. Finally, we believe that man’s greatest need is redemption through Jesus Christ and not education. (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Romans 3:23, Jeremiah 17:9)

Jesus Christ reflects truth: truth about the nature of God, truth of man’s need to be rightly related to God, and truth about the world He created. (John 14:6, John 17:7, Matthew 7:24-27, Psalm 19:1, I Corinthians 2:15, John 8:26, II Timothy 3:16)

The Bible is inerrant and authoritative. Because God both created the universe and appointed the writing of Scripture, no academic truth (man discovered truth) can rightly be in conflict with God’s Word.

Although man may not perceive truth in particular circumstances, truth is unchangeable and not relativistic.

Biblical education focuses on what a person becomes rather than on what he knows. Therefore, knowledge is the basis for the development of wisdom and character. Further, the end of education is not the acquisition of status but to glorify God and fulfill His mandate to subdue and have dominion over God’s creation.

CCS is operated by a Board of Directors which is elected by the membership of Cypress Christian School, Inc.
Weekly chapel services allow students and faculty members to experience worship, praise, instruction and fellowship. Bible curriculum includes weekly scripture memory.
Cypress Christian School is a non-ranking school.
PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) – The PSAT is mandatory for eighth-graders through high school juniors each year as preliminary training for the SAT. The PSAT that is administered during the junior year is used to select students for National Merit Scholarships. Thus, it is not only a helpful practice, but for the gifted student who does well, it can be a means of obtaining recognition for college scholarships. CCS strives to keep parents and students informed at all levels.
- E-mail, the Warrior Weekly e-newsletter, the CONNECTION magazine and the school website are used to communicate to parents and students. Information about the current school year as well as policies and procedures can be found on the school website.
- Weekly packets for students in grades TK-5 may include class and school-wide information and schoolwork from the previous week for elementary students. Printed information with class or school-wide news is distributed to secondary students in grades 6-12 as needed.

- Elementary (grades TK-5): grades are communicated via FACTS SIS and homework is communicated via Schoology.
- Middle School (grades 6-8): grades and homework are communicated via Schoology.

A high standard of conduct is required of each student at CCS for the purpose of maintaining order and building Christ-like character. In grades TK-5, age-appropriate visual reminders give students and teachers the ability to monitor behavior and keep parents informed about student conduct. In grades 6-12, disciplinary reports are issued. CCS does not practice corporal punishment.

Cypress Christian School is a private, religious kindergarten through twelfth grade educational organization where every employee is responsible to provide the example, training and encouragement to others for practical Christian living in accordance with biblical standards and the basic religious doctrines of historic, evangelical Christian faith.

The CCS String Ensemble is a new group made up of young musicians who are seeking individual instrumental instruction outside of school. The ensemble consists of students from upper elementary school through high school and performs at various fine arts events throughout the year. This group also provides secondary students the opportunity to honor the Lord with their individual talents and compete in solo and ensemble contests.

Want to be a fun and exciting part of the football and basketball seasons, as well as compete at the TAPPS State competition?
Band is a huge commitment as students will be required to attend after-school rehearsals throughout the week in the fall semester, be required to attend and play at all varsity home football games, as well as travel to all varsity away football games. Small ensembles will be formed to play at select basketball games as well.

The Cypress Christian School Worship Band is comprised of auditioned ninth through 12th grade high school instrumentalists and singers who lead the student body weekly in worship at Wednesday chapel. Students use their God-given talents to glorify the Giver of all things and lead peers to connect in authentic worship mid-week with Jesus. Band members consist of a drummer, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and vocalists.
Middle School Worship Team is made of seventh and eighth-grade singers in rotation of four singers per week. Middle School Worship Team singers must be registered for Choir to join.

“Sing to the Lord” – Psalm 96
The Cypress Christian choir program is the perfect place for the beginning and experienced singer. Music lives in all of us and singing is a powerful way to glorify God and minister to others. The Warrior Choir performs throughout the year and there are numerous opportunities for group and individual competitions.
The Cypress Christian School Chamber Choir is a choral ensemble made up of high school students. Music is a gift directly from God, and the voice is an instrument that is entirely God-made. Students in Chamber Choir learn to use each of their own uniquely crafted voices in harmony with others to become one voice. In Chamber Choir, students will experience and perform various styles of high-level choral music, from classical to musical theater to gospel, by harmonizing in three to eight parts. Chamber choir performs at school-wide performances throughout the year and competes in Solo & Ensemble TAPPS competition as well as Large Ensemble TAPPS competition in the spring. Students learn to worship through song, and by joining others in participating in this God-given musical language, choir members become a close-knit team, unified in purpose, experiencing the joy of the Lord together.

When deciding whether to participate in Artsonia, there are many questions that are commonly asked. Below are the most popular ones.
Do teachers need to get parental permission to publish their students’ artwork?
Yes. Parents need to register to provide permission for their child’s artwork to be displayed on the public gallery. Artsonia offers several simple tools to assist teachers in the parent registration process. Note: The permission given when parents register on Artsonia is applicable for the tenure of the student’s attendance at the school, so once the parent gives permission, the teacher can continue to build the student digital portfolio in future school years.
How do you ensure privacy for young students?
On the Artsonia website, each student is identified only by a “screenname” which is usually the student’s first name and number (e.g., Sarah22). Last names are not publicly posted on the website. Additionally, all comments are pre-approved by the registered parent before being posted for the artist, and all artist statements are approved by the teacher prior to being posted.
Who owns the copyright of the artwork submitted?
Artists retain ownership of their artwork. However, when the parent registers on our website, they grant Artsonia the right and license to, among other things, publish the artwork in the museum, on merchandise, and on Artsonia promotional material. The Cypress Christian School Performing Arts Department treated audiences to the amazing production of Annie on March 5-7, 2020 at The MET Church.
This fantastic show had it all! The performance showcased dancing orphans, a singing billionaire and everything in between.
Main roles of Annie, Mrs. Hannigan, Grace, Farrell and Oliver Warbucks were supported with a wonderful cast of orphans, cons, bums, waitstaff and New Yorkers. Based on the classic comic strip, Annie the Musical opened on Broadway in 1977 and was quickly established as a popular show among theater lovers. Set in New York during the Great Depression, this musical tells the story of the endlessly hopeful orphan Annie and her turn of fortunes with the arrival of the wealthy Daddy Warbucks. While Warbucks helps Annie search for her real parents, the spunky orphan and her wealthy benefactor help each other discover what it means to be a family.
This talented cast kept audiences enthralled. This musical warmed every heart with classic songs like “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Tomorrow,” and “N.Y.C.”

The Wizard of Oz
The Cypress Christian School High School Theatre Department treated audiences to an amazing production of The Wizard of Oz on April 29, 30 and May 1, 2021, at The MET Church.
The production showcased all of the characters you know and love, along with a couple of familiar characters with a new “twist” to them. The performance was a hit!
Main roles of Historian, Dorothy, Tinman, Scarecrow and Lion were supported with a wonderful cast of witches, munchkins, Ozians and even a magical biker gang. Based on the classic by L. Frank Baum, this non-musical version of the tale you know and love has become a staple for theatre lovers young and old. Set in the Kansas prairie, Dorothy finds herself caught in a roaring cyclone that takes her to the magical world of Oz. While Dorothy embarks on her journey to return to her Aunt and Uncle, she encounters curious characters that remind all of us that we have the brains, heart and courage to persevere and make our dreams a reality. In a time where many are enduring hard times, the production was the perfect reminder to us that there is No place like Home.
In the lobby, the National Art Honor Society students had an opportunity to showcase their talents with a silent auction benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. Students created art that showcased the characters that were seen on stage and allowed patrons to take home a unique masterpiece while benefitting a cause that is very dear to Cypress Christian School.
Special thanks to directors (Marit Broussard, Kiley Harris and Jessica Mynes), the cast, backstage tech crew and CCS parents for their tireless efforts in making this show a success. We cannot wait to see what performance opportunities await our students as they continue to support the arts with their talents.

The Little Mermaid
The Cypress Christian School Theatre Department treated audiences to an amazing production of The Little Mermaid on March 24-26, 2022, at The MET Church.
Everything about this show was bigger. The audience, the size of the cast and crew, the number of costumes, set pieces and hours of rehearsal. Attendance of the show was record breaking with over 700 in attendance at Friday night’s performance, and over 1,400 at all three performances. The show included 49 actors (grades 4-12), 22 tech students and four directors. The actors poured their hearts into over 145 hours of rehearsals.
The main roles of Ariel (Jessica Atkins, grade 11), Eric (Gray Layton, grade 9), Triton (Jackson Murrill, grade 12), Sebastian (Aidan Salazar, grade 8) and Ursula (Gia Granato, grade 11), were supported by the fantastic cast of Meresisters, Flounder, Scuttle, Eels, Chef Louis, Maids, Sailors, Chefs, Under Sea Creatures and Lake Creatures.
We could not have done the show without our amazing theatre families that provided many of our props and costume pieces as well as financial support and encouragement. Thanks also to The MET Church for letting us use their facilities for the week and for their hospitality.

The Cypress Christian School Theatre and Music Departments treated audiences to an amazing production of "The Sound of Music" on March 9, 10 and 11 at The MET Church.
Everything about this show was polished, full of heart and encouraged audience members with the message of perseverance and doing the right thing. The show included 51 actors (grades 2-12), 21 tech students and four directors. The actors poured their hearts into over 210 hours of rehearsals.
The main roles of Maria (Jessica Atkins, grade 12), Captain (Christian Slabic, grade 12), Max (Trevor Davies, grade 12), Elsa (Gia Granato, grade 12) and Mother Abbess (Rayne Harris, grade 11), were supported by the fantastic cast of seven Von Trapp children, (Ashleigh Townsend, Owen Layton, Danielle Robertson, Caleb Porrier, Illiana Sevilla, Amanda Atkins, Anna Doan and Marilyn Ward), the managers of the home, soldiers, nuns, party attendees and contestants.
We could not have done the show without our amazing theatre families who provided many of our props and costume pieces as well as financial support and encouragement. Thanks also to The MET Church for allowing us to use their facilities for the week and for their hospitality.

Please call the school at 281.469.8829 or email the Elementary Receptionist or Secondary Receptionist by 8:30 a.m. on days when your child is ill or will be unexpectedly absent from school.
After School Program
Cypress Christian School is pleased to offer the After School Program to serve our TK-eighth grade CCS families.
Our mission is to provide safe, supervised care in a loving Christian environment. Children will be grouped by grade categories and engaged in activities that will encourage creativity and social interactions.
Athletics Required Forms
For a student to participate in athletics at Cypress Christian School, forms at the link below must be completed and submitted electronically prior to the first practice. Do not give forms to athlete’s coach.
One parent AND the player must read and sign the code of conduct in the Athletic Section of the CCS Combined Policies Handbook, the Acknowledgment of Rules for middle school or high school and Athletic Physical form.

Carpool Procedures
2024-2025 Carpool Procedures
Middle school students report to the West Gym from carpool drop-off no earlier than 7:30 a.m. High school students report to first period classrooms. Teachers supervise students until they begin their school day. For the safety of all, parents are not permitted to park their vehicle and walk their child(ren) onto campus. Student supervision begins at 7:30 a.m. The school does not provide supervision for students who are dropped off before that time.
After drop-off, students will report as follows:
- Transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students go to the Elementary Lunchroom
- First, second and third grade students go to the Secondary Lunchroom
- Fourth and fifth grade students go to the West Gym Foyer
- Middle school students will go to the West Gym
- High school students will go to first period classrooms
After drop-off, students will report as follows:
Carpool tags are mandatory, will be assigned to all families and distributed during Open House on Tuesday, August 15.

Dress Code
The school’s dress code is designed to a) promote the decorum and dignity of our academic mission, b) promote unity of purpose within the student body and c) support biblical principles of modesty and distinction of genders. Supporting the school and coming to school each day with clothing in compliance with the dress code is the responsibility of both the student and the parent. Dress code violations will be recorded and repeated violations will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
Students are required to purchase all uniform pieces (shirts, blouses, pants, shorts, jumpers, skirts, etc.) through FlynnO’Hara or Lands’ End School Uniforms. Students may wear blue jeans or uniform bottoms and CCS spirit wear on Fridays.
FACTS Family Portal
FACTS Family Portal is a private and secure parents’ portal that allows parents to view academic information specific to their children, while protecting their children’s information from others. Family Portal can be used to: see your child’s grades, attendance, homework and conduct; access a variety of posted school information; communicate with teachers; order school lunches; and access your FACTS tuition account to view your payment plan, scheduled payment dates, funding source and incidental billing.
Elementary – FACTS SIS is used for attendance, conduct, grade book and lunch ordering.
Middle School – FACTS SIS is used for attendance, conduct, grade book, lesson plans, homework and lunch ordering.
High School – FACTS SIS is used for attendance, conduct, grade book, term grades and lunch ordering.

The Combined Policies Handbook is available through FACTS Family Portal > School > Resource Documents > Combined Policies Handbook 2024-2025. It includes the following sections:

Please take time to review this important document, and feel free to contact your principal should you have any questions about school policies or procedures.
Health & Wellness
Please keep the following guidelines in mind when deciding whether or not to send your child to school. This will help control the spread of infectious diseases and allow your child to feel their best while at school.
- If a student has a fever of 100 degrees or more, the student should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal.
- If a student has vomited or had diarrhea two times in a day, the student should stay home for 24 hours after the last episode.
- If a student has any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your family physician before sending the student to school.
- If a student has a heavy, moist productive cough, chest congestion or discolored nasal drainage, check with your family physician before sending the student to school.

Lunch
All school lunches will be prepaid and charged to the FACTS Prepay Account. No cash will be accepted for lunches or snacks. Lunch service will begin on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 14, for elementary students and Thursday, August 15, for secondary students. Secondary students will receive free lunch on the first day of school (see below for details).
All elementary school lunches must be ordered in advance no later than Sunday evening for the entire upcoming school week. Secondary lunches will not be preordered.

- Students may bring a sack lunch with them to school or order a hot lunch in advance from our lunchroom through FACTS Family Portal. Hot lunches will be available beginning the first day of school, Wednesday, August 14, and may be ordered starting Monday, August 5.

Parent Service Organization (PSO)
The Parent Service Organization (PSO) is an enrichment program eager to partner with volunteers who are excited to share their God-given gifts and talents with Cypress Christian School. Volunteers are essential throughout the school year to support the mission and directly impact the lives of students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Whether you are a seasoned family or brand new to the school, have a little time to give or a lot of time to give, there is a place for you to serve your fellow Warriors. The volunteer opportunities are endless. Below are just a few of the areas our families and friends can lend a hand.
Parking Permits
Parents:
Permit decals will be mailed to school families before the first day of school. These decals will serve as your preauthorized access to campus. Please remove and dispose of last year’s decals (if applicable). Place the new decal in the upper left of the driver’s side interior windshield (below the tint line, if applicable). In order to enter campus, please enter your access code on the touchscreen panel just outside the Jones Rd. entrance. The access code is available through FACTS Family Portal > School > Resource Documents > Gate Code Letter. More information on permit decals and campus vehicle procedures will be included in the mail-out.
Students:
- To receive a student parking pass, junior and senior students and sophomores born in 2008 must complete the following:
- Prior to August 13, complete the Student Vehicle Registration form located on FACTS Family Portal > School > Web Forms > Student Driver.
- The student parking permit fee of $10 will be billed through the Family FACTS incidentals account.
- Student parking permits may be picked up during Open House in the West Gym on August 13 from 1-3 p.m.
- Students will not be allowed to park on campus without a student parking pass after Friday, August 16.
Pledges
Pledge to the American Flag
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Pledge to the Texas Flag
Honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.
Pledge to the Christian Flag
I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag and to the Savior for whose Kingdom it stands. One Savior, crucified, buried, risen and coming again with life and liberty for all who believe.
Pledge to the Bible
I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God’s Holy Word. I will make it a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I will hide its words in my heart that I might not sin against God.
School Supplies
In an effort to simplify the back-to-school process for parents, CCS will provide some of the school supplies for students in the 2024-2025 school year.
Elementary
In elementary school, CCS will provide school supply boxes for each student in TK through fifth grade. There is no need to order anything; we will have the supplies ready when school starts.
- Grades TK-5 – Parents are asked to provide a full-size backpack and water bottle for your student.
- Grades 3-5 – In addition to the items listed for grades TK-5 above, parents are asked to provide an ESV bible and a no-bleed Bible highlighter.
Middle School & High School
In middle and high school, since it is harder to buy uniform supplies per grade, CCS will provide each student with those items generally required for school, including poster boards, notebook paper, index cards and highlighters.
- Grades 6-12—Parents will be asked to provide class-specific items for their students. The shortened list for middle school is below, and the shortened list for high school will be provided soon; however, we suggest that you wait until your child’s schedule is solidified and then purchase the necessary supplies.
Schoology
Schoology is a learning management system where students and parents can access academic information specific to elementary students in grades 1-5, as well as middle and high school classes. Schoology can be used to view class notes, activities, calendar/lesson plans and to communicate with teachers. This platform is also used to house teacher instructional videos and other information that is important to access during a student’s absence. Schoology will be used daily in the classroom by all secondary on-campus and livestream students.
Service Hours (High School)
Service Hours Requirement
All high school students are encouraged to build a heart of worship through service to their community. A few examples of service include working along with adults in any church or community ministry, lawn/home/pet care for a family friend or a neighbor without pay, volunteering to work in the concession stand during a game or tournament, baking goodies for first responders, or writing letters to service personnel. Note that service hours cannot be performed for family and no compensation should be received.
Students will use FACTS to track the number of service hours they have earned. High School students must complete 10 hours of service per semester for a total of 20 hours per year. Any graduating senior who has accumulated 200+ hours will be acknowledged at the graduation ceremony.

One goal of CCS is to help develop godly individuals who are usable for God’s service in His church and in the world. All students are encouraged to develop Christ-like character as they practice serving those around them.
In order to build the habit of service, all middle school students are required to log at least five service hours each semester. A few examples of service include working along with adults in any church or community ministry, lawn/home/pet care for a family friend or a neighbor without pay, volunteering to work in the concession stand during a game or tournament, baking goodies for first responders or writing letters to service personnel. Note that service hours cannot be performed for family and no compensation should be received. Bible teachers will provide more information and provide forms that students will turn in by the end of each semester to verify their service.

Student Medical Insurance
Please note that the school will require proof of medical insurance coverage in addition to a sports physical and other athletic department forms prior to a student participating in the school sports/co-curricular activities. Please log in to your FACTS Family Portal and go to School / Web Forms / Family Demographic Form / Student Medical Form and enter your insurance company name, policy number and expiration date. A copy of your insurance card is no longer required.
Summer Reading & Assignments
Elementary Summer Reading Challenge for Incoming First-Sixth Grade
Incoming First through Sixth Grade students have a few more days to work on the summer reading challenge! The challenge is based on the number of minutes a student reads and appeals equally to all ages and abilities. Readers will receive congratulatory medals when we return to school in August. Reading begins May 23. Email Mrs. Parker if you have any questions: [email protected].
- How to Participate – Color one box on the Minute Log for every 10 minutes you read. There is no time limit to how many minutes you can read in a day, but it is better to read for smaller amounts of time every day than for long periods of time every now and then.
- Logging Is Important! – Keep track of your Minute Log and return it to school by Friday, August 16. The log must be signed by the student and a parent.
- What Can You Read? – Students may read books, eBooks, magazines, graphic novels and nonfiction.
- Set a Goal and Succeed! – Students will receive medals when we return to school in August: 600 minutes = Bronze, 1,000 minutes = Silver, 1,400 minutes = Gold, 1,750 minutes = WOW!
- Incoming First & Second-Grade Parents – It is important for young readers to read independently and also engage in shared reading experiences, as both are critical to the process of learning to read. This challenge is intended to increase your child’s exposure to books and to create positive reading experiences over the summer. Therefore, both independent reading and reading aloud to your child will count towards minutes earned.

Please choose titles and activity packets based on student’s recommended ELA placement. Operation Christmas Child
CCS elementary students were given the opportunity to touch another child’s life through Operation Christmas Child. This outreach is a national ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, whose mission is to bring the Good News of Christ’s love to a child outside of the United States. Elementary students shopped, packed, prayed over and shipped 42 boxes this year as they spread Christ’s love through the joy of Christmas giving.

On January 22-23, 2024, CCS held Spiritual Emphasis Days to provide students with a pause from their ordinary academic schedules in order to hear from God’s Word, participate in worship through song and think through what it looks like to follow the Lord with their everyday lives. Champion Forest Baptist Church graciously hosted both days, providing hospitality, a worship team and a myriad of activities for students to participate in.
Middle school welcomed Mr. Taylor Stricklin, middle school pastor at Champion Forest, as the keynote speaker. He passionately unpacked lessons from the Bible that all dealt with individuals who fell asleep and the consequences that came to them and others. Whether exploring the story of Eli from the Old Testament or Eutychus, who fell asleep as Paul preached and then fell to the ground from the third story window, Taylor’s impassioned plea was for students to encounter the Lord Jesus and not spiritually sleep. After each of his talks, students gathered into discussion groups to dig in to the teaching. Forty juniors and seniors served as small-group leaders. Ten middle schoolers publicly committed their lives to following Jesus during the last large group session on Tuesday.
An important idea for elementary students was that we need to confess (spit out) our sin. If we confess, Jesus promises to forgive us and Satan can’t make us feel guilty. We can also struggle with the idea of turning the other cheek, being slow to anger and being loving to others.
Takeaways from elementary students/classes:
- TKA: We learned about God and being a real Christian.
- KD: Being an authentic Christian means you’re the real deal. Christians feel bad when they don’t obey God. They always say sorry. They walk away when people are rude.
- 1A: Being an authentic Christian means to be a real Christian. A real Christian loves God, loves others, prays, reads the Bible and follows God’s commands.
- 1B: Being an authentic Christian means you are the real deal. You can ask God for forgiveness when you sin. You love and forgive others.
- 2C: God is the Lord and Savior. Authentic Christians share the gospel, feel bad when they sin and are doers of the Word.
- 4B: To be an authentic Christian, you have to love others, believe Jesus is Lord, be a real deal Christian, be a “doer” for Christ.
- 5B: Being an authentic Christian, aka the real deal, means being doers of the Word. You can see from one of their journal entries what it means to be a doer of His Word.
- Mrs. Kendall’s friends in their own words: Being an authentic Christian is to be the real deal, to lay your life down for God, to love one another. If you want to be an authentic Christian, God has to be the King of your life. Authentic means you are the real deal. I learned how to know God and come closer to Him. We are to love one another and be kind.
CCS would like to thank the entire Champion Forest Baptist staff and volunteers who contributed to welcoming us and caring for our students for these two days. Our prayer is that each student who participated will find their walk with God deepened as they take the next step toward Christlikeness.

Warrior Leadership Academy
The Cypress Christian School Warrior Leadership Academy participates in the Student Leadership University (SLU) program. Student Leadership University’s mission is to develop and equip student leaders to think, dream and lead. We strive to instill future tense thinking, character-driven decision-making, ownership of biblical values and a commitment to influence through service.
Students who participate in Warrior Leadership Academy attend leadership lunches led by Coach Kris Hogan, Director of Culture, monthly. Students also have the opportunity to be a part of the Student Professional Coalition where professionals in different fields including engineering, aviation, finance, architecture and real estate, come to CCS to speak to students about their profession and answer questions.

Ambassador Council
Student Life
Ambassador Council
The Ambassador Council members are students in grades 6-12 who are nominated by teachers, submit an application and are selected by the Ambassador Council Committee. This organization provides leadership opportunities for students through supporting the admissions office.
Students gain experience through volunteering at various events including preview events and visitor days, as well as by performing administrative duties for the admissions office. Leadership workshops are held throughout the school year and over the summer.

Junior Ambassadors
Junior Ambassador members are recognized as leaders among the students. They set an example for the other students at all times, including off-duty times. Junior Ambassador members constantly demonstrate leadership skills such as decision-making, communication, punctuality, school pride, respect and good citizenship.
Students who are Junior Ambassadors maintain a good discipline record. Students must exemplify leadership skills, as well as people skills (Fruit of the Spirit).
Junior Ambassadors will assist with morning and afternoon carpool, helping ensure younger students get where they need to be. They are responsible for putting up and taking down the flags each day. This groups will perform other leadership tasks such as leading pledges at school events, working with students in younger grades when appropriate, and any elementary task that requires student leaders.
The Junior Ambassador program has three purposes:
- Allow students to assist in maintaining a safe and enjoyable school
- Allow students to practice leadership
- Recognize the increasing maturity level of our fifth-grade students
