Library

The Cypress Christian School library services the needs of our K-12 students. Students engage in checking out books, enjoying story time with the librarian, receiving assistance with research and learning how to use the library and online catalog system. Throughout the year, library activities include book fairs, author visits and other reading incentive programs.

Library Catalog

The library uses the Follett Destiny Catalog System. Students can use the catalog from home or school to search for books, place books on hold, and create book lists which aid in research. Students may log in using their school computer login and password.

Research

The CCS library provides students with online databases and encyclopedias to aid in research. We subscribe to Gale Cengage LearningEncyclopedia Britannica and Pebble Go

We also strongly encourage students to obtain a library card from Harris County Public Library to further assist with online research needs.

Book Recommendation Lists

There are many websites (see below) that offer excellent book lists to help you in choosing quality, age-appropriate books for your child. As always, parental discernment is very important in using any book list for children.

Crown Book Award List: This list consists of wholesome and uplifting mainstream books that have been published within the last two years. The lists are for children in grades 1-8.

Houston Area Independent Librarians Network: Houston independent school librarians collaborate to produce this list of recommended books for preschool to 12th grade students.

Newbery Award List: The Newbery Award is given annually by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALA) to the author for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Caldecott Award List: This award is given annually by the ALA to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

Elementary STEM

Cypress Christian School students have opportunities K-12 to explore STEM programs. Critical thinking and problem-solving weave throughout all subjects and are then given an outlet to practice these skills in STEM classes and electives. The K-12 STEM programs give our students exposure and chances to excel in many areas.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW)

PLTW is being implemented in transitional kindergarten (TK) classes through fifth grade in the computer and science STEM labs. Each PLTW Launch module engages students in cross-disciplinary activities that spark a lifelong love of learning and builds knowledge and skills in areas including computer science, engineering and biomedical science. In addition, each module empowers students to develop essential skills such as problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, collaboration and perseverance. PLTW modules are easily adapted to point to God’s truth through creation, unity in the body of Christ, and God’s design of the human brain.

Computer/STEM lab

Students will recognize that computers reflect God’s precise and orderly design. They will understand man’s knowledge to create the computer comes from God and is His gift to us. All elementary students from transitional kindergarten (TK) classes through fifth grade participate in weekly classes in the computer/STEM lab. Our younger students are introduced to typing with correct finger placement and basic coding using Bee Bots. First and second grades are introduced to coding and use their imaginations to create animated stories and games using Scratch. Third through fifth grades are introduced to 3D printing using various CAD (Computer-aided Design) applications like Tinkercad and Cookiecad. Fourth and fifth grades begin to create, code and work with robotics using VEX IQ Robot Design kits. Before leaving elementary, all students will work towards mastery of basic Microsoft Office software and the Schoology LMS (Learning Management System).

In the elementary science and STEM Lab, we strive to incorporate science, technology, engineering and math at age-appropriate levels through exploration and investigation of physical, life, earth and space sciences. All students in grades TK-5 learn to develop and design investigations which will yield wonder and answers to God’s creation of the roles of plants and animals in our physical world, as well as, explore and investigate physical characteristics of objects as they test and model forces. Students will not only examine and test scientific processes in the lab; they will also examine the world around them outdoors with God’s creation.

Elementary Specials & Field Trips

Art

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~ Ephesians 2:10 

In grades TK – 2, students primarily focus on fine motor skills in addition to elements and principles of art. They are exposed to and given opportunities to use many types of mediums. Each year, curriculum is designed to build on what was learned in the preceding year, while adding new elements. The art pieces become more complex, and the details become more emphasized. In grades 3-5, students begin working with more complex mediums such as polymer clay and acrylic paint on canvas.

Art Competition

Elementary students participate in in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art Competition with many pieces of artwork winning top level ribbons and medals.  

Music

Each TK-5 class attends music class once per week for fifty minutes. A strong emphasis is placed on worship – what worship is and ways in which to worship through music. Students also take part in general music education including rhythm, pitch, harmony and form, to name a few. Students participate by singing, moving, playing games, creating music and playing instruments such as Boom Whackers, rhythm sticks, drums, recorders and ukuleles.

Musical Opportunities and Performance

  • All elementary students worship during chapel each Wednesday morning. 
  • Fourth and fifth graders perform patriotic selections during the Veterans Day program in November. 
  • All elementary students perform at the annual school-wide Christmas program in early December. 
  • All elementary students perform at Grandparents & Special Friends Day in February. 
  • In fourth and fifth grades, students learn the basics of sight-singing using the Kodaly method, students learn to play the recorder and each student is provided his/her own during the unit of study. 
  • Fifth graders learn to play the ukulele. Numerous chords are taught, and simple songs are played. 
  • In the spring, students have the opportunity to participate in performance days where they can prepare a solo or ensemble to perform within the classroom setting. 
  • Kindergarten also performs a few special songs during kindergarten graduation in May. 

Students visit the library weekly to engage in age-appropriate library programming. Students participate in book selection, reading incentive programs, read-alouds, storytelling and creative activities. Throughout the year, the library participates in special events including book fair, summer reading challenge, Kindergarten Bedtime Stories, Literacy Night and the book exchange. Students also enjoy a welcoming atmosphere designed to incentivize the love of reading which includes visits to a book vending machine. The goal of the library is for students to engage in programming that will create lifelong readers.

P.E.

Elementary P.E. provides students in transitional kindergarten (TK) through first grade the opportunity to develop fine motor skills and locomotive skills through various activities. Students also participate in team building activities and are learning basic athletic skills like throwing and catching a ball.   Students in second through fifth grade are learning the beginning rules and procedures of various sports like volleyball, basketball and even frisbee. Throughout each unit, the P.E. teacher builds on skills needed in each sport to end the unit giving students a chance to play the sport in a game-like setting.

P.E. Lab

Students in transitional kindergarten (TK) through first grade get the opportunity to go to P.E. Lab. It is designed to help children develop the skills necessary for learning readiness and mastery of their environment. It helps to improve the child’s ability to maneuver and function in their environment, leading them to better performances in tasks such as handwriting, sitting still, paying attention, speaking and behavior.

Cypress Christian School elementary creates a beginning framework for providing our students vast opportunities to meet our mission statement of academic excellence and a biblical worldview.  

Academic Excellence

CCS provides standards-based instruction in science, mathematics, social studies, reading and language arts (writing, grammar, spelling and handwriting). We strive to support a partnership with each individual family that focuses on equipping elementary students with the necessary foundational skills to be well prepared for their academic road ahead provided by the best coursework and a challenging environment.  

Teachers use cutting-edge curriculum along with other research-based tools to ensure that students are mastering grade-level standards and learning critical thinking skills all within a biblical perspective. 

Each student will leave our elementary school well prepared for middle school with qualities of confident learners, responsible students and the understanding that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. 

Biblical Worldview

At CCS, we look at each individual subject as an opportunity to draw students closer to the Lord. Not only do we provide Bible as a core subject, but we also provide opportunities to learn and memorize Scripture as a model of hiding God’s Word in our heart. In addition, through chapel every Wednesday and our classroom teachers, we provide daily moments of worship, prayer and fostering a knowledge of God’s love for every student.

Middle School Co-Curriculars

The curriculum and programs offered at Cypress Christian School are designed to fulfill the mission of the school by 'honoring the Lord Jesus Christ by providing students an education based upon academic excellence and biblical values."

CCS fulfills this mission by offering many opportunities for students to learn both inside and outside of the classroom. We believe when students participate in training, competition or performance individually or as members of a team or group – under the mentorship of Christian coaches and directors – they are practicing what they have learned in the classroom, chapels, church and at home. These opportunities help prepare them for a life of serving and honoring Jesus Christ.

Students in grades 6-8 may participate in the following competitive sports by season:

Cheer (girls), Cross Country, Football (boys), Volleyball (girls)

Basketball (boys & girls), Soccer (boys & girls), Swimming

Class Trips

Middle school students take various field trips throughout the year to support curricular objectives and serve the community such as trips to historical sites including Washington-On-The-Brazos State Park, Stephen F. Austin State Park, George Ranch, Bullock State Museum, the State Capitol, the Alamo, Natural Bridge Caverns, Houston Natural Science Museum; trips to fine arts events, trips to the Space Center; and trips to local shelters and assisted living facilities to serve.

Eighth grade students also have the opportunity to participate in the Warrior Leadership Academy which partners with Student Leadership University (SLU). Participants will be involved in leadership lunches twice a month on campus and take a trip to San Antonio the summer after their eighth-grade year.

Fine arts programs and opportunities for middle school students include Architectural Drawing, Art, Band (Drumline & Hornline), Cartooning, Choir, Theatre and Praise Team.

Middle School STEM

Cypress Christian School students have opportunities K-12 to explore STEM programs. Critical thinking and problem-solving weave throughout all subjects and are then given an outlet to practice these skills in STEM classes and electives. The K-12 STEM programs give our students exposure and chances to excel in many areas.

Cypress Christian middle school students build on the STEM foundation that was set for them in elementary school. All core classes of science, math, history and ELA incorporate Microsoft Office into the curriculum in different ways. Each grade level has a different opportunity for a research project with a presentation component. Throughout middle school, students are developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will help them in their high school classes as well as their future endeavors outside of school.

Middle School STEM Elective

In middle school, the STEM elective fosters meaningful connections in various areas of science. Tomorrow’s scientists and engineers research, collaborate and innovate as they explore the world of science. Examples of projects include designing a solar oven, making and testing homemade glue, building a Rube Goldberg machine and designing a simple contraption for a classic egg drop competition.

Middle School Computer Discoveries Elective

This elective course takes a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as problem solving, programming, physical computing, user-centered design and data, while inspiring students as they build their own websites, apps, animations, games and physical computing systems.

Middle School Curriculum

Cypress Christian School rests upon three legs – academic excellence, biblical values and cultural impact. These three must be equally strong and secure. Middle school teachers provide an engaging, age-appropriate classroom experience that moves each child along the path of academic preparation for his or her unique future. Middle school seeks to offer students opportunities to add rigor to their academic trajectory by offering a variety of electives, tracks to allow students to excel in academic areas and the opportunity to begin high school courses while in middle school.

Sixth Grade Overview

Sixth grade is a student’s first steps away from the elementary school experience and into a more independent and mature way to pursue academic success. Sixth graders have six teachers each day and move from class to class using a bell schedule. Students learn to be responsible for their actions and progress in school. Practicing those academic skills that will impact their success in high school and college is an important part of sixth grade.

Bible

The students will study the Bible as the Living Word of God. They will memorize Scripture and learn how to apply it in his/her own life. The goal is to prepare students to answer the big questions about God, the universe, people, truth and right and wrong. Students will explore all 66 books of the Bible.

ELA

This course is designed to equip students with the essential elements of cohesive, coherent, written communication. Students learn to identify sentence constructions and to write grammatically correct sentences, paragraphs and essays. Students write for a variety of purposes and audiences as well as in a variety of genres and are required to produce research papers and projects of varying lengths. Students learn the basic guidelines for MLA documentation and use them in research papers and projects.

Math

Students will use mathematical facts and skills previously learned with greater speed and accuracy. They will utilize good study habits and proper time management in working problems. Students will apply learned mathematical concepts to everyday life situations and demonstrate genuine learning through the ability to apply concepts in daily encounters with new situations.

History

This course exposes students to the concept of studying history and the tools used by historians. Students will examine various ancient civilizations. In each case, students will learn key terms and events asking what each of these histories add to our own as well as how God’s hand has moved making it all His story. Cross-disciplinary assignments are used to practice writing and speaking skills while learning about topics, individuals and events in social studies.

Science

The students will develop their knowledge of God through studying earth science, physical science, physics and chemistry. They will develop scientific literacy using scientific knowledge, skills and attitudes to identify and solve science-related problems. The students will select cause-and-effect relationships to explain problems. They will identify how science and technology can have both positive and negative effects on one’s personal life.

Rotational classes

During each of the four quarters of the academic year, sixth graders participate in different classes to expose students to various fine arts and STEM activities. In grades seven and eight, students choose from a wide variety of elective classes.

Seventh Grade Overview

Seventh graders are maturing rapidly and building upon the skills they learned in previous grades. They are ready to dig deeper into more complex subjects and to learn to express their ideas to others. Seventh graders continue to examine their own values and beliefs and compare those with other systems. Taking responsibility for prioritizing and completing school assignments is important for seventh graders. Seeing students blossom in their talents is an exciting part of middle school.

Bible

Students will be exposed to a one-year survey of all 66 books of the Bible. The curriculum fits together the pieces of the story of the Bible. Like a road map, it provides middle school students with an aerial view of God’s Word and works to prepare their understanding and heart for more detailed concepts that will come later.

ELA

English 7 uses a variety of types of literature to strengthen comprehension, reading strategies, and literary analysis. Students are expected to read independently and in guided-reading opportunities. Students practice skills in plot analysis, characterization, theme, recognizing literary techniques and examining works for worldview. Grammar skills are reviewed and strengthened through daily editing practice and instruction and practice related to types of sentences, phrases and verbals. Another component is vocabulary enrichment. Students identify new words in reading assignments and use various context clues to unlock meaning. Writing is emphasized throughout the year by direct instruction in various modes of writing including personal writing, narratives, research papers and analytical assignments. Oral expression is encouraged and practiced informally through small group assignments and more formally in oral book reports and assigned oral presentations throughout the year.

Math

Students will recognize and employ basic forms of numbers and word problems in evaluating arithmetic and algebraic expressions. They will relate mathematical and algebraic concepts to everyday life situations. Students will think logically and begin to apply this logic to other areas of study. Students will also be introduced to algebraic topics such as the evaluation and simplification of algebraic equations and the introduction of geometric concepts.

History

Social Studies is the study of human history, law, religion, economics, ethics, morals, social institutions, recreation, art, customs, traditions, social interactions with each other and man’s interactions with God. By studying man’s relationship with his fellow man and with God in the past, the student will gain insight into his own relationships with God and his fellow man in the present, with the ultimate goal of finding wisdom for how to live in the most beneficial way in the future. The study of history is fundamentally incomplete unless it includes the study of the incarnation, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Son of God.

Science

Science is the study of God’s universe through observation, analysis and experimentation. In this course, the student will learn about the observations, analysis and discoveries that scientists have made about the living things that make up God’s world. Units of study include cell structure and function, genetics, reproduction of organisms, plant and animal diversity, plant structures and the human body.

*In addition to the core classes offered, students have the opportunity to choose from a variety of electives. Beginning in seventh grade, students can elect to take Introduction to Spanish to prepare for an option of taking Spanish 1 for a high school credit in eighth grade.

Eighth Grade Overview

Eighth graders are on the cusp of high school and are growing in their independence and sense of identity. Many are ready for high school classes such as Spanish I or Algebra I. Eighth graders enjoy more academic independence and critical thinking opportunities. Classes are designed to allow students to practice the skills that will be needed in high school. CCS offers greater differentiation in academic courses in eighth grade.

Bible

Eighth grade Bible allows students to interact more deeply with the truths that God has revealed through His Holy Word in comparison to competing worldviews so that each student would: (1) come to know Christ as Savior, if this is not already a reality (Romans 10:9-10), (2) grow closer to the Almighty through a personal relationship with Christ (Ephesians 4:13-15, 2 Timothy 2:15-16) and (3) begin to live out a biblical worldview that includes sharing his/her faith and discipling others (Matthew 28:19-20).

ELA

This course continues to build upon the most vital aspect of academic success: critical thinking and writing. Students continue to sharpen their analytical skills through interpreting literary works and examining language. As students prepare for high school, they focus on the skills required for a thoughtful analysis of literature and language and the vital task of expressing this analysis in concise but insightful discourse in a variety of modes always connected to meaning. Students learn academic research skills and how to incorporate research into academically well-written essays and research assignments using MLA documentation guidelines. The skills, strategies and assessments prepare students for advanced and dual credit classes in high school.

Math

Students in eighth grade have two options for math: Math 8 or Algebra I (high school credit earned). In Math 8, students will demonstrate proficiency of rational numbers, exponents, roots, dilations, linear relationships, functions,  multi-step equations and other algebraic concepts. In Algebra I, students will demonstrate proficiency in the following categories: variables, function patterns and graphs; rational numbers; solving equations and inequalities; graphs and functions; linear equations and their graphs; systems of equations and inequalities; exponents and exponential functions; polynomials and factoring; quadratic equations and functions.

History

This course will look at the early European explorers and the effect they had on developing the colonies in the new world. It then moves toward the colonization and independence of the new nation. The course progresses through the developing nation to the War Between the States and ends with the Reconstruction era. This course will also acquaint the student with the fundamental workings of government in the United States. The responsibilities of citizenship are stressed to prepare students to participate in the democratic process. Students will be made aware of the Judeo-Christian heritage of this great nation. During presidential election years, a special emphasis will be given to the election, issues and nominees.

Science

In eighth grade science, students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigation and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. This course integrates the disciplines of physics and chemistry in the following topics: force, motion, energy and matter.

The CCS swim team hosted a combined high school and middle school swim meet on Monday, December 4, at the Cy-Fair Natatorium. There were 11 schools represented and 239 total swimmers in the competition. Both divisions of the swim team

Cypress Christian School College and Academic Advising provides a personalized, student-centered approach which informs and supports students and their families.

Cypress Christian School students are challenged daily in their core classes and electives. The base curriculum enhances the student’s exposure to STEM in core classes that every student takes such as Algebra I, Algebra II, geometry, physics, biology and more. Course Selection

Each year, the advising office meets with students and parents to review their four-year degree plans, course options for the next school year and next steps towards their goals after graduation. These annual meetings allow students’ plans to grow and change with them as they develop into the person God is calling them to be. 

Career Exploration

Students complete the YouScience Aptitude Assessment to identify their talents and receive guidance about possible career pathways. Career-focused electives offer students the opportunity to explore these interests further.

College Search and Application

The college search begins in ninth grade, and throughout high school, students will be given the opportunity to attend field trips to tour universities, visit with college representatives on campus, attend college fairs and participate in Lunch & Learns to prepare their application materials. At every stage, students are encouraged to meet individually with the advising office to help them find the university that is the right fit for them.

SAT/ACT Info

In ninth grade, students take the PSAT to become familiar with the test structure and provide a baseline for future testing. In 10th grade, students take the PSAT/NMSQT as a practice run for the following year. In 11th grade, students take the PSAT/NMSQT for consideration for the National Merit Scholarship Program. All of these assessments help students prepare for the SAT, which will be used in the college admission process.

College RepS

College rep visits are hosted in a classroom during the lunch period. CCS will advertise the visits in the preceding week, and interested students can register through SCOIR.

The College Board AP Capstone Diploma Program Focuses on College-Level Independent Research, Collaborative Teamwork and Communication and Writing Skills Crucial for College and Career Success 

CCS is one of approximately 1,500 high schools worldwide to implement the AP Capstone Program ― an innovative program that allows students to develop skills that matter most for college success, such as research, collaboration and communication. Developed in direct response to feedback from higher education faculty and college admission officers, AP Capstone complements the in-depth, subject-specific study of other Advanced Placement courses and exams. The program consists of two courses taken in sequence: AP Seminar and AP Research.

Under the instruction of Mr. Patrick Leonard, Cypress Christian School started AP Seminar in the fall of 2018. 

This innovative program provides an even greater opportunity for our students to prepare for college and beyond. The program gives our teachers more flexibility with curriculum choices so their students can access more challenging coursework and sharpen their reading and writing skills.

The AP Seminar course, typically taken in 11th grade, equips students to look at real-world issues from multiple perspectives. Through a variety of materials, articles to research studies to foundational and philosophical texts, students tackle complex questions; understand and evaluate opposing viewpoints; interpret and synthesize information; and construct, communicate and defend evidence-based arguments. Students are assessed through a team project and presentation, an individual project and presentation and an end-of-course written exam.

The AP Seminar course, typically taken in 11th grade, equips students to look at real-world issues from multiple perspectives. Through a variety of materials, articles to research studies to foundational and philosophical texts, students tackle complex questions; understand and evaluate opposing viewpoints; interpret and synthesize information; and construct, communicate and defend evidence-based arguments. Students are assessed through a team project and presentation, an individual project and presentation and an end-of-course written exam.

In the subsequent AP Research course, students design, plan and conduct a yearlong research-based investigation on a topic of individual interest, documenting their process with a portfolio. Students build on skills developed in the AP Seminar course by learning how to understand research methodology; employ ethical research practices; and collect, analyze and synthesize information to build, present and defend an argument.

Audio Video Production (ELE1116) *

Students will learn about film and digital media as well as the use of professional techniques and editing styles to display their ideas and highlight their God-given talents. Students will also learn about different professions in the audio and video production fields and how to work collaboratively to become a successful film artist. Students will make their ideas come alive through effective planning, filming and editing. Students will also learn to select, analyze and create content ranging from: stop motion, chase scene, short film, news stories and many other interesting pieces of introductory film projects.

Choir (MUS0968) *

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Students will have the opportunity to sing about God’s truth and explore a variety of cultures through sacred and secular vocal music. Students will receive instruction in and demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge of music theory, sight-singing and proper vocal technique through challenging vocal repertoire and many performance settings. The students will learn how to sing and perform regularly as a unified ensemble.

Art Photography (ART1000) *

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

Students will be introduced to the basics of capturing a story or event through pictures. Many of the photographs taken by the students will then be used in school promotional materials, on the school website or in the school yearbook. Student’s grade will be based on participation and a willingness to take photographs at several co-curricular events throughout the school year.

Prerequisites – Students must be willing to represent CCS as photographers at outside sporting events and activities.

This course introduces students to the artist skills needed to create original works of art. AP Studio Art (ART1225) *

Grades 11, 12

Students will apply the basics of painting from technique to composition while working from still life and photographs. Any 2-D medium is possible: acrylics, pastels, watercolor or oil pastels. This is a foundational art class that will cover 2-D drawing skills. This course develops student’s observation skills through experimentation with various approaches, styles, techniques and media. Students will draw from still life set-ups, photographs and a live model. Drawing instruments include pencil, charcoal and colored pencils.

Upon completion of the course, qualifying students will have the opportunity to gain college credit through the AP Studio Art test administered by the College Board. The $100 fee will be charged to the student’s account at the beginning of the school year.

Drama (DRM0964) *

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This class is an introduction to theatre and acting as an art form. Students will learn the basics of creating a character, scene work, working with a group, stage directions, writing a scene, production roles and some technical work. These students will prepare and perform the homecoming skit. This class may or may not include a proper play performance, but there will be an opportunity for these students to perform.

Advanced Drama (DRM1007) *

Grades 9, 10, 11, 12

This class will be involved in producing the TAPPS One Act Play in the fall. Each student will be required to play some sort of role in the OAP (cast, alternate or technician). Students enrolled in this class will also be required to be involved in the CCS Talent Show and required to audition for the all-school musical. In the spring semester, students will be required to prepare a piece for consideration at the TAPPS State Speech Meet. This will include competing at an invitational meet sometime in January or February and performing at Drama & Desserts.

Theater Arts Tech (TA1000) *

This class will learn the foundations of lighting, stage building and theater management.

Cypress Christian School students have opportunities K-12 to explore STEM programs. Critical thinking and problem-solving weave throughout all subjects and are then given an outlet to practice these skills in STEM classes and electives. The K-12 STEM programs give our students exposure and chances to excel in many areas.

Cypress Christian School students are challenged daily in their core classes and electives. The base curriculum enhances the student’s exposure to STEM in core classes that every student takes such as Algebra I, Algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus, biology and more. In addition to the core classes, students have opportunities to take their desires and passions to the next level with STEM electives in mathematics, science, engineering and computer science.

Senior Capstone Engineering Elective

The senior capstone engineering class (formerly referred to as honors engineering) has a unique opportunity to impact the world in Jesus’ name by providing a product that improves the life of a client at Reach Unlimited. Reach Unlimited is a nonprofit organization that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They believe that individuals with disabilities deserve to live a life full of joy, purpose, and accomplishment in a safe and caring environment. 

The honors engineering class of 2021-2022 presented their projects to their clients from Reach Unlimited at a banquet on April 11, 2022. The semester began with the students visiting Reach Unlimited to meet their clients and understand a need they have in their community. The students worked through the design process and project management skills to present a product that would fulfill three needs.

Group one was tasked to create a fully automated stamp machine. Reach Unlimited has a gift shop that uses gift bags with stickers of their logo when customers buy items. The stamp of the logo would be used on the bags in place of the sticker and allow their client to help with the process even with her limited mobility. The students decided to use programming and an actuator inside of a metal plated wood frame. The client can simply hit a button and the machine will vertically stamp the gift bags one at a time. 

Group two was tasked to create a headpiece for a client to be able to participate in art activities at Reach Unlimited. The headpiece incorporated a 3D-printed piece that connected the inside of a hard hat safety helmet with an art utensil such as a marker or paint brush. The group also created a mobile stand specifically designed for their clients’ wheelchair. The stand rolls up to the client and can adjust in height as well as hold different types of art paper or canvas on a white board.

Group three was tasked to create a soil sifter machine for a client who otherwise would not be able to help in the greenhouse. Large shovels are used to mix soil with perlite. The new product allows the client with limitations in his hands to poor smaller amounts of soil while the machine vibrates from an electric sander. The machine then has a motor that rotates PVC pipe to mix the soil and perlite before being used in the greenhouse.

High school students are given the opportunity to choose electives each year that are of most interest to them. Cypress Christian offers a variety of STEM electives that not only give exposure, but practice and real-world experiences.

Computer science classes offer time coding and programming.

Science electives, such as careers in health sciences, forensics and anatomy & physiology, allow time to explore in-depth science studies.
Engineering classes range from an introduction to engineering and the different types of engineering in the principles of engineering class, to a deep dive into understanding the design process in honors engineering, to a full real-life project from beginning to end in the senior capstone engineering class.
Mathematics electives, calculus and statistics, help prepare students on a deeper level for college curriculum.

Cypress Christian School’s theatre arts program is more than just a co-curricular activity; it is a family of creators constantly striving to glorify God with their talents. Students enrolled in the drama program get hands on experience and dedicated stage time for every skill level. Students can expect to be challenged and supported by their peers both on and off the stage with the help and guidance of their directors. With a vertically aligned course selection of introduction to theatre arts, intermediate theatre arts, advanced theatre arts and technical theatre exploration and design, there is something for everyone in this award-winning program.

The end goal for theatre arts students is to grow their talents throughout their high school career and compete as a team in the TAPPS One Act Play competition in the fall and individually in the TAPPS Speech and Academic Meet in the spring of every year.  

The Cypress Christian School Chamber Choir is a choral ensemble made up of high school students.  Music is a gift directly from God, and the voice is an instrument that is entirely God-made. Students in Chamber Choir learn to use each of their own uniquely crafted voices in harmony with others to become one voice. In Chamber Choir, students will experience and perform various styles of high-level choral music, from classical to musical theater to gospel, by harmonizing in three to eight parts. Chamber choir performs at school-wide performances throughout the year and competes in Solo & Ensemble TAPPS competition as well as Large Ensemble TAPPS competition in the spring.  Students learn to worship through song, and by joining others in participating in this God-given musical language, choir members become a close-knit team, unified in purpose, experiencing the joy of the Lord together.

Middle school is a pivotal time for young teenagers. The values, beliefs, habits and skills honed between the ages of 11-14 follow the young man or woman into high school and beyond.

Middle school students are fragile. They are full of expectations, yet they face many risks. What difference should it make that young preteens and teens are part of an educational community that strives to follow the biblical model and promotes a Christian worldview? The team of middle school teachers at CCS is committed to making a difference in the lives of these precious students. We want to help them to answer the question, “What does it mean to live for Jesus?”.

Middle school students need the right preparation for their unique race that lies ahead. Culture pushes its values on teens in thousands of ways. As teachers, we must be clear and direct as we demonstrate the application of scriptural principles in relevant ways. Christian teachers orchestrate discussions that cause students to consider the consequences of choices that lead away from God’s plan. Perhaps these discussions can come from a question posed in Bible class, a current event mentioned in history class, a scientific breakthrough discussed in science, even a lunch detention for a classroom disruption or an after-school meeting with a teacher. It is an honor to work each day with men and women who demonstrate a life of integrity, a life sold out to the Lordship of Jesus. The middle school years are a unique challenge, but together we can see an emerging generation of Warriors being honed by God.

High school is not just about the four years of classes taken or "getting into a good college" as so many people say.

It is also the continuation of building a firm foundation on the Lord and preparing the student to be a contributing member of society as an adult.
With those goals in mind, we strive for excellence in faith formation, discipleship and academic rigor. All of our employees on campus, not just our Bible teachers, are mature believers who have been called by God to walk alongside our students and reinforce and support the biblical values of the students’ parents. Whether a student is rehearsing for a play, practicing a sport or purchasing lunch, (s)he will be surrounded by the love of Christ reflected through the staff. Beyond modeling Christ, once a year we set academics aside and take students off campus to intentionally spend time with God and reflect on the health of their relationship with Him.

In the classroom, students will be academically challenged by experts in their field. Our teachers focus on much more than just memorizing facts and figures. They guide students in learning how to reflect, analyze and discover the why so they will be prepared for college. One hundred percent of our students are accepted to college. Because of this, we take all of our freshman to four different colleges to tour and start the discovery process of finding the college that may be the right fit for them.

No matter the age or position of a person, there are always areas for a student to demonstrate leadership. For this reason, we encourage all of our students to participate in the summertime Student Leadership University (SLU) conferences. The goal is to have our students have the leadership skills of an average thirty-year-old. Throughout the school year, we will build upon the summer SLU conferences by hosting Warrior Leadership Academy during lunchtime.
Students are welcome to come spend the day with us. They will experience a school that is polite, kind, welcoming and supportive of their faith. Simply stated, they will find what they have hoped for in a school.

Run-4-Fun 2022 took place on Thursday, November 2, 2022 and we are so proud of our elementary students and their effort at raising funds through Run-4-Fun! Students raised over $55,000! Funds will be dispersed between flexible seating and updated technology in the library, playground equipment, a scholarship established in honor of Mrs. Tammy Otts, equipment for the computer lab to increase curriculum for the STEM program and library books for classrooms and the book vending machine.

Parent Service Organization (PSO)

The Parent Service Organization (PSO) is an enrichment program eager to partner with volunteers who are excited to share their God-given gifts and talents with Cypress Christian School. Volunteers are essential throughout the school year to support the mission and directly impact the lives of students, faculty, staff and administrators.

Whether you have been a part of our school community for years or have just joined us recently, whether you have a few spare moments or an abundance of time, there is a place for you to serve your fellow Warriors.

Volunteer Opportunities

Assist faculty/staff with various elementary events throughout the school year. Grandparents & Special Friends Day, Run-4-Fun and other special events are just a few examples of where help is needed. Please indicate your interest to help and someone will contact you when the planning stages begin.

Coaching opportunities are available for K-5 fall soccer, 4th & 5th grade basketball and spring baseball/softball through the West Houston Christian Sports Association. All coaches must be interviewed and submit information for background check. Please indicate your interest(s) and someone will contact you to schedule an interview.

Lunch is provided by volunteers to faculty, staff and administrators to show appreciation for the time they give to our students. This is a tremendous blessing and treasured by all! 

Faculty & Staff Appreciation Week is designed to show the awesome faculty, staff and administration team how much they are appreciated!

Library volunteers are needed occasionally to shelve books and to assist with book fairs. Please indicate your interest(s) and someone will contact you as library opportunities become available.

Monthly volunteers are needed to organize the lost and found items in the West Gym Foyer for secondary students (grades 6-12). Someone will contact you to determine your availability and add you to the schedule.

The mission of the Moms in Prayer International group is to impact children and schools worldwide for Christ by gathering mothers to pray. The CCS Moms in Prayer group will pray together each Monday from 8-9 a.m. It is a call for moms to pray for CCS faculty, staff, administration, students and board of directors. Join us as we lift up our school to the Lord.

On May 18, 2019, the second annual Future Warriors Club Fun Day took place on the playground and despite some rain showers, a good time was had by all. Families enjoyed getting to visit, form new friendships and meet their children’s potential kindergarten classmates. We had Future Warriors from the incoming Class of 2019-2020 all the way to the Class of 2022-2023 represented!

The event was capped off with refreshing snow cones from Bahama Bucks, and we look forward to getting together again at our next Future Warriors Club event in the fall.

On October 26, 2019, Future Warriors and their families gathered on the playground for our FRIENDSgiving event. It ended up being a crisp, sunny day which was the perfect atmosphere for fellowship and a scavenger hunt throughout campus.

The kids were given clues which led them to the prayer garden, picnic tables, softball field and playground. Once they located the pumpkins at all four stops and filled their cards with stickers at each location, the Future Warriors returned to the starting point to fill jars with assorted candies to take home. A great time of fun and fellowship was had by all. New friendships were formed and old ones were kindled, which is the goal of the Future Warriors Club. Our desire is to promote activities that will help ease the transition to kindergarten when it’s time for these Future Warriors to join the ranks of CCS.

On April 30, 2022, our Future Warriors Club took the field with the high school baseball teams at the Take Me Out to the Ballgame event on Saturday afternoon. It was hot but that didn’t stop the kids from having a good time! They joined the players on the field for the National Anthem, ran the bases, did a Dizzy Bat challenge and a Race to the Base. Each child in attendance received a baseball hat autographed by the players. Thank you, Coach Swan and the high school baseball teams, for playing an intersquad game to allow our little ones to join in the fun!

What a great day for a playdate! On October 22, 2022, Future Warriors entering kindergarten in 2023-2024 all the way to 2028-2029 were on campus this past Saturday exploring and enjoying the playground with new friends. The weather was beautiful! Current and future CCS families had time for visiting, forming and renewing friendships and meeting their children’s potential kindergarten classmates.

We had a visit from our special guest, CCS Elementary Principal, Dr. Allen. We look forward to getting together again at our next Future Warriors Club event in the spring. Our desire is to promote activities that will help ease the transition to kindergarten when it’s time for these Future Warriors to join the CCS family.

Spiritual Emphasis Days 2023

God is transcendent, is spirit, and always acts in accordance with His loving and just nature. In addition, God in His Word places an eternal emphasis upon life. (Romans 11:36, II Corinthians 4:18, I John 2:15-17)

Men, and thus children, are created in the image of God and have unbounded potential to mirror the qualities and character of Jesus Christ. Further, man is born with a sin nature that has marred but not ruined God’s image in man. Finally, we believe that man’s greatest need is redemption through Jesus Christ and not education. (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 8:3-6, Romans 3:23, Jeremiah 17:9)

Jesus Christ reflects truth: truth about the nature of God, truth of man’s need to be rightly related to God, and truth about the world He created. (John 14:6, John 17:7, Matthew 7:24-27, Psalm 19:1, I Corinthians 2:15, John 8:26, II Timothy 3:16)

The Bible is inerrant and authoritative. Because God both created the universe and appointed the writing of Scripture, no academic truth (man discovered truth) can rightly be in conflict with God’s Word.

Creating a Cultural Impact

Life as a Cypress Christian School Warrior reaches beyond the classroom.

Through a wide range of activities during and after school hours, the goal is to create a cultural impact in the community as well as in our students’ lives. This encourages a sense of community within the student body.

This is done through school-wide events that allow interaction between elementary and secondary students, leadership and service opportunities through National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society and Ambassador Council and community service. It’s good (and fun) to be a Warrior!

National Art Honor Society

The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art.

Today, the NAHS has over 2,100 chapters and 49,000 students involved in the society. The NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.
CCS students who have had one year of art may join the National Art Honor Society. NAHS members gain peer recognition, leadership and growth opportunities, community service and scholarship opportunities in the arts and further their education in art via a field trip to an art museum.

The 2023-2024 NAHS officers are Bria Lloyd (President), Rayne Harris (Vice President), Madison Fowler (Historian), Cailea Chalton (Secretary) and Regina Hernandez-Rodriguez (Treasurer).

We know that our God is the author of all creativity, and by forming us in His image, He has passed on a love of creativity to all of His children.

The fine arts are an integral part of our make up as human beings and providing students the opportunity to experience and be well trained in these disciplines is vital to their overall development. The mission of the Fine Arts Department at Cypress Christian School is to provide students with excellent performing and visual arts training that honors God by acknowledging that our gifts and talents are bestowed on us by Him, and therefore should be used to glorify God and serve others.

On Thursday, December 7, the sanctuary of The MET Church was filled with the sounds of Christmas. Our youngest TK Warriors opened the evening with a song, followed by amazing performances from the secondary choirs.

The Apostle Paul stated in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “whether therefore you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Athletics can be used to develop many positive qualities in athletes, parents, and spectators. We must maintain a Christ-like testimony while in the midst of competition. The following guidelines have been developed to help us maintain a godly walk and testimony.

Coaches

  1. Exemplify godly character, behavior, and leadership at all times.
  2. Respect the integrity and personality of the individual athletes.
  3. Abide by and teach the rules of the game in letter and in spirit.
  4. Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
  5. Respect the integrity, judgment, and authority of the officials. Show respect to the officials.

Athletes

  1. Accept the responsibility of representing Cypress Christian School.
  2. Treat opponents and teammates with self-control and respect.
  3. Avoid actions and words that demean or taunt opponents.
  4. Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.

  6. Shake hands with opponents after the game. Treat the competition as a game, not a battle.

Spectators

  1. Remember that you are at an athletic contest involving school students. They are not adults or professionals.

  4. Avoid personal contact with the officials.
  5. Avoid booing, taunting, and sarcastic and personal comments directed at opposing players and referees.

The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) has partnered with Rank One to handle TAPPS student eligibility. All TAPPS and CCS high school and middle school athletic forms must be submitted to this electronic format. Upload all student physical forms to Rank One.

Parents will also be able to use Rank One to check student eligibility, see game schedules and receive email notifications of game, date, time or location changes.

Printable forms necessary for student physicals:

PLEASE NOTE: All athletics forms must be completed in Rank One. Students must have a current physical and insurance information must be completed in order to participate. If student received a physical on campus, the physical form has been uploaded to Rank One.

Required Student Medical Insurance

Please note that the school will require proof of medical insurance coverage in addition to a sports physical and other athletic department forms prior to a student participating in the school sports/co-curricular activities.
  • Log in to FACTS Family Portal and go to School / Web Forms / Family Demographic Form 
  • Click on Student Medical Form button next to your child’s name
  • Go to the Physician and Insurance section
  • Add or update your insurance company name, policy number and expiration date
  • Select Yes in the Permission to treat field
  • Click Save at the bottom of the page
A copy of your insurance card is not required.

Accident Insurance Information

CCS has partnered with Texas Kids First Insurance to offer primary or supplemental medical accident insurance as may be desired or needed by individual families. This partnership will make a student accident insurance plan available to school families that choose to participate, should they need and desire coverage or supplemental coverage for their children. Texas Kids First provides this type of coverage to families in over 350 private and public school districts throughout Texas.

International Admissions

Admissions Requirements

In order to be considered for admission, an international (I-20) student must meet requirements including:

  • International student and his/her family must be committed Christians.
  • International student is required to live with a biological relative in Houston.
  • Student must be age-appropriate for the grade he/she will enter.
  • Submit application, application fee and the required paperwork as listed below.

International Student Admission Process

The family must complete online application and pay $550 non-refundable International Student Application Fee. Click here to begin the application.

If the student is accepted, the following is due:

a. Total annual tuition

b. Any athletic fees

c. Student fee

d. $1,000 fee to cover incidentals

e. $2,400 fee to cover required time in Learning Center

Report Cards/Transcript (Copy)

Middle school students should submit current report cards. Report card must be on the 100-point scale.

High school students should submit all high school grades, including a copy of the current report card and a school profile. The family is responsible for submitting the student records to a CCS approved Credential Evaluation Service and for supplying the results to CCS. Report card and transcript must be on the 100-point scale.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Students must supply the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to CCS. Information about the testing can be found at www.ets.org/toefl.

Birth Certificate

Immunization Record

Students must meet Texas Department of Health guidelines on immunizations.

Teacher Recommendations

Students in grades 6-12 must have their current English and Math teachers fill out a Confidential Teacher Evaluation Form, which is located within the online application.

An interview will be scheduled when ALL of the above paperwork is received. Parents/family member and student are required to attend the interview either on campus or via Zoom. After the interview, the staff members will sign off on the file and send it to the Admissions Committee for review.

The Admissions Office will follow up in a timely manner with an admissions decision following the family interview.

Once the student is accepted and after full payment of all tuition and expenses listed above, the I-20 will be issued.

Tuition Assistance

CCS operates a need-based assistance program for enrolled families. Each year’s financial assistance awards are determined by the number of applicants, the amount of verifiable financial need each applicant has and the donations available to meet tuition assistance needs.

CCS utilizes FACTS Grant & Aid to streamline the financial aid assessment process. Families submit an application and supporting documents through a secure portal, and FACTS makes recommendations to CCS based on data collected. In addition to FACTS’ recommendations, each family’s financial and personal situation is considered. In some cases, a home visit is required as part of the tuition assistance application process.

Tuition assistance is awarded annually to assist with tuition payments but is not used to cover application/enrollment fees, student fees, optional program costs or other fees. Assistance monies are awarded in a prorated method throughout the school year but are not applied retroactively.

Once awarded, as a condition of continuing to receive tuition assistance, the student(s) and parent(s) must be supportive of the school in word and deed and remain in good standing with the school in conduct, academic performance and financial accounts.

The Warrior Swim Team competed in the TAPPS State Swim Meet on Wednesday, February 14, in San Antonio. The Warriors were represented by 16 athletes and competed in four relay events and six individual events.
Cypress Christian School took a total of 41 soloists to competition, middle school and high school combined, 30 of which were first-time soloists at TAPPS Solo and Ensemble. Of these singers, the following students received a I-Superior Rating (highest possible)

The Cypress Christian Board of Directors and Administrators are honored to serve the Lord and serve Christian families in northwest Houston.

The Board of Directors set the educational and business policies of the school and the school’s President executes these policies while supervising the faculty and staff. The Senior Administration, which includes the President, work together to pursue excellence in all areas of the school.

Serving Cypress Christian School is a great privilege. Every day, hundreds of students walk through our doors, and every day, each one of us that serve on staff have the unique satisfaction of knowing that we have been part of making very important investments in the lives of these children.
Each student who walks through the doors of this institution will be equipped with both academic knowledge and with the knowledge of the ultimate source of truth – the Lord Jesus Christ. Outside of the investment put into the life of a young person by their family and their church, I can think of no greater benefit that can be given to a child than this.
As important as this school is to individual students and their families, I am also mindful that Cypress Christian School is a critical part of the bulwark that keeps our entire nation strong and free. Our second president, John Adams, rightly said, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” In other words, President Adams understood the amount of freedom granted under the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights could only be safely handled by a people that exercised good moral judgment. Every day, Cypress Christian School is teaching students the Bible, and is fully engaged in the important work of training the next generation of citizens that will provide critical leadership in our homes, in our communities and in our nation.

Cypress Christian School is pleased to offer the After School Program to serve our TK through eighth-grade CCS families.

Our mission is to provide safe, supervised care in a loving Christian environment. Children will be grouped by grade categories and engaged in activities that will encourage creativity and social interactions.

2024-2025 School Year

The Elementary (Grades TK-5) After School Program (ASP) rate for 2024-2025 school year is $3,880 annually. This will be divided into 10 monthly payments of $388. The first month’s payment of $388 must be received at the time of application for enrollment or re-enrollment in order to hold your child’s place in the program. This payment is non-refundable. The Middle School (Grades 6-8) After School Program (ASP) rate is $249 per month. The first month’s payment of $249 must be received at the time of application for enrollment or re-enrollment in order to hold your child’s place in the program. This payment is non-refundable. Resources

Teachers in the Huff Learning Center individualize the learning process to ensure that each student achieves academic success. For each student, they coordinate a Team Action Plan which includes the home, the classroom teacher and the Learning Center. Successful intervention in targeted areas brings rewarding gains in an academically challenging curriculum.

Cypress Christian School views technology as an opportunity to enhance the educational process. It is the view of CCS that technology is a tool used to prepare students to function and excel in any environment. CCS takes the view that technology changes constantly, but the skills needed to be proficient in its use do not.

Cypress Christian is a 1:1 technology school for students in grades two-12. Students are actively engaged with the Microsoft Office Suite and Schoology as their Learning Management System. Technology is a part of everyday life and the CCS student is given an opportunity to learn to use technology and to use it in a way that glorifies God.
Students in kindergarten and first grade have Chromebooks in the classroom that they use as part of learning stations within the classroom, but they do not take the devices home. Beginning in second grade, students take their Chromebook home on an as-needed basis. Third grade students start taking their devices with them to and from school.

Academics Overview

At Cypress Christian School, students are provided with a rigorous academic curriculum that prioritizes foundational skills such as reading, writing, critical thinking, mathematical proficiency and a well-rounded understanding of science and humanities.

The curriculum is carefully selected to uphold Christian standards and challenge students at all levels.
In addition to daily Bible classes, Scripture is incorporated into all academic disciplines to offer a practical and life-changing learning experience. The traditional classroom setting fosters unity among students.
CCS offers an intensive study of English and history, including the great writings, people, events, works and ideas that have shaped civilization. Coordination among departments reinforces students' learning, while science and math offer advanced tracks starting from freshman year. Honors, dual credit and AP courses are also available.
By the end of their senior year, Cypress Christian School students consistently score above the national average in both SAT and ACT exams and are deemed college-ready by the State of Texas admissions policies.
