Home Academics Elementary School Library
The library uses the Follett Destiny Catalog System. Students can use the catalog from home or school to search for books, place books on hold, and create book lists which aid in research. Students may log in using their school computer login and password.
The CCS library provides students with online databases and encyclopedias to aid in research. We subscribe to Gale Cengage Learning, Encyclopedia Britannica and Pebble Go.
We also strongly encourage students to obtain a library card from Harris County Public Library to further assist with online research needs.
There are many websites (see below) that offer excellent book lists to help you in choosing quality, age-appropriate books for your child. As always, parental discernment is very important in using any book list for children.
Crown Book Award List: This list consists of wholesome and uplifting mainstream books that have been published within the last two years. The lists are for children in grades 1-8.
Houston Area Independent Librarians Network: Houston independent school librarians collaborate to produce this list of recommended books for preschool to 12th grade students.
Newbery Award List: The Newbery Award is given annually by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALA) to the author for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
Caldecott Award List: This award is given annually by the ALA to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
Children’s Book Council: This website gives current book suggestions for all reading levels.
