Cypress Christian School’s Chamber Choir returned from Waco last week with an outstanding achievement, earning State Runner-Up at this year’s TAPPS State Choral Competition. The ensemble, made up of 48 students in grades 9–12, represented CCS with excellence through their performance, preparation and teamwork.
The choir received straight 1-Superior ratings from all three judges in Performance, earning a Division I rating—the highest possible distinction. Their performance showcased strong musicality, precision and a unified sound developed through months of dedicated rehearsal.
Following their performance, Chamber Choir also earned a 1-Superior rating in Sight Reading, one of the most challenging aspects of the competition. In this event, choirs are given a six-page piece of music they have never seen before and must perform it in three- or four-part harmony within just 12 minutes of preparation.
Judges evaluate choirs on pitch accuracy, rhythm, tone quality, blend and overall musical expression, making this accomplishment especially impressive.
By earning the highest possible ratings in both Performance and Sight Reading, the Chamber Choir achieved the prestigious “Sweepstakes” honor. When combined with individual student scores from the TAPPS Solo and Ensemble competition in February, CCS secured an overall second place finish in the state.
This recognition reflects not only the talent of these students, but also their dedication, discipline and passion for music. Their ability to perform with unity and excellence is a testament to the hard work they have put in throughout the year.
Cypress Christian School is incredibly proud of the Chamber Choir and the way they represented the school on the state stage. We give thanks to God for the gift of music and the opportunity to raise our voices in praise. Soli Deo Gloria.
