One of the most anticipated elementary traditions at Cypress Christian School returned this spring as students participated in the annual Tribal Competition, a day filled with friendly competition, teamwork and Christ-centered community.
Inspired by the 12 tribes of Israel, Tribal Competition is Cypress Christian School’s unique version of Field Day. Throughout the day, elementary students rotated through a variety of exciting activity stations that encouraged teamwork, perseverance and plenty of laughter. From sack races and spring ball relays to cornhole challenges and inflatable obstacle courses, students enjoyed an action-packed day celebrating school spirit and friendship.
One of the highlights of the event is the beloved buddy program, where every elementary student is paired with a junior or senior for the day. These older students serve as mentors and encouragers, helping guide their younger buddies through each activity while building meaningful relationships across grade levels.
The buddy tradition reflects the school’s One Heart philosophy, creating opportunities for students to learn from one another and experience the strength of a Christ-centered community.
The excitement continued during the afternoon as elementary students gathered by their assigned tribe and proudly marched down One Heart Lane for the annual Tribal Competition parade. Representing one of the 12 tribes of Israel, students cheered on their teammates before competing in the event everyone had been waiting for—the annual tug-of-war championship.
After an afternoon of spirited competition and enthusiastic cheering, the Joseph Tribe emerged victorious, earning this year’s Tribal Competition championship.
“Tribal Competition is about so much more than games,” said Patrick Reents, Vice President of Academics. “It’s an opportunity for our students to build relationships, encourage one another and experience the joy of being part of a Christ-centered community. Watching our older students lead and invest in our younger students is one of the many things that makes Cypress Christian School so special.”
From beginning to end, Tribal Competition reflected the heart of Cypress Christian School—developing students who lead with humility, serve others and celebrate one another. The day was filled with joyful memories, lasting friendships and countless examples of what it means to live as One Heart.
