2026 Student Leadership Trip to Europe

History became real for CCS students this summer as the Warrior Leadership Academy traveled across England, France and Italy from May 28 through June 8. What began as an overseas educational experience quickly became something much deeper: a journey through faith, sacrifice, leadership and the foundations of Western civilization.

One of the most exciting and memorable moments of the trip came early in London during the group’s “Amazing Race” challenge. Students worked in teams throughout the city, navigating famous landmarks, solving clues and completing challenges while learning teamwork, communication and leadership under pressure. From historic streets to iconic locations throughout London, the event created incredible energy and camaraderie among the students while giving them a unique way to experience one of the world’s greatest cities.

While in England, the group also traveled to Oxford to visit Holy Trinity Church in Headington Quarry, the home church of famed Christian author C.S. Lewis. Students visited Lewis’ gravesite and stood inside the simple church where he faithfully worshiped for many years. The visit offered a powerful reminder that some of the most influential Christians in history lived lives marked not by fame or spectacle, but by humility, faithfulness and consistency. Sitting in the same church where Lewis worshiped helped bring his writings and legacy to life for the students.

From England, the group crossed into France where they experienced some of the most moving moments of the trip in Normandy. Students toured Pointe du Hoc, where American Rangers courageously scaled steep cliffs under enemy fire during the D-Day invasion of World War II. Standing among the bomb craters and bunkers overlooking the English Channel gave students a vivid understanding of the bravery and sacrifice displayed there.

The group also visited Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery at Normandy. Walking the same beach where thousands of Allied soldiers fought and died created a deeply emotional experience for everyone involved. At the cemetery, rows upon rows of white crosses stretching across the hillside served as a sobering reminder of the tremendous cost of freedom. The visit challenged students to reflect on courage, sacrifice and the responsibility each generation carries to preserve the blessings secured by those who came before them.

In Paris, students enjoyed one of the most popular activities of the entire trip: a bike tour through Versailles. The day included riding through the beautiful palace grounds, exploring the French countryside and stopping at a lively French market filled with fresh bread, fruit, cheeses and local foods. Students enjoyed a picnic together while experiencing the beauty and history surrounding the Palace of Versailles.

The group also visited several of Paris’ most iconic landmarks, including Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre Museum. Standing before Notre Dame, students witnessed both the beauty and resilience of one of the world’s most famous cathedrals as restoration efforts continue following the devastating 2019 fire. At the Louvre, students encountered some of the most celebrated works of art in human history while discussing the influence of beauty, creativity and culture throughout civilization.

Midway through the trip, the group experienced an awe-inspiring reminder of God’s creation along the Italian coastline at Cinque Terre, including the village of Monterosso. The stunning cliffs, colorful villages, and crystal-blue water provided a breathtaking backdrop for reflection and rest. In this setting, students also had the opportunity to step into leadership in a meaningful way as they led one another through student-prepared and student-led devotionals. Watching students encourage each other, open Scripture and speak truth into one another’s lives became one of the most impactful spiritual moments of the journey.

The final leg of the journey brought the group to Rome, where history and Christianity intersect at nearly every corner of the city. One of the most meaningful experiences came during the visit to Mamertine Prison, where the apostles Peter and Paul were traditionally imprisoned before their executions. Students descended into the ancient prison and reflected on the courage and faith of the early Christians who remained faithful even in the face of suffering and death.

Nearby, students climbed the Holy Stairs, believed by many Christians to be the same steps Jesus walked during His trial before Pontius Pilate. The visit created a reverent moment for students as they reflected on Christ’s sacrifice and the events leading to the crucifixion.

The group also stood outside the Colosseum, taking in its massive scale and reflecting on its history as a site of both spectacle and persecution in the Roman Empire. Even without entering, students gained a powerful sense of its significance as they considered the lives and stories tied to its walls.

Another deeply impactful stop came at the Church of St. Stephen the Martyr, where vivid artwork depicts the suffering and sacrifice of early believers. The church challenged students to consider the boldness and endurance demonstrated by Christians throughout history and what it means to stand firmly for one’s faith today.

As the trip came to a close, students returned home with much more than photographs and souvenirs. They came back with stronger friendships, a deeper understanding of history and faith and a greater appreciation for leadership, sacrifice and the Christian heritage woven throughout the Western world. Along the way, they also gained a renewed sense of gratitude for being Americans, Texans and CCS Warriors, recognizing the freedoms, opportunities and responsibilities that come with each identity. The CCS Warrior Leadership Academy once again provided students with an experience that will influence and inspire them for years to come.
