Melanie Starbuck

NILD Educational Therapist
OVERVIEW

Melanie Starbuck, with over 25 years’ experience in education, is an educational therapist who works to improve cognitive, perceptual and academic weaknesses. Her goal is to help every person she works with become an independent learner. Melanie believes that every person is uniquely created and the brain can improve specific weaknesses with the right intervention. Melanie believes she is called to reflect Isaiah 61:1-3, helping those that are brokenhearted and held captive by learning struggles. She seeks to show them how their unique characteristics are part of God’s plan and can become a “beautiful headdress” and a “garment of praise.”

Melanie started her career working in public schools with visually impaired students from birth to 22. During that time, she was selected to help create the first EXCET exam for teachers of visually impaired students in Texas.

Melanie began working in the Learning Center at Cypress Christian School when her son entered kindergarten at CCS. She knew from her work in public schools that struggling students are usually smart, but need someone to come alongside them to help develop the skills needed for the classroom.

Melanie has worked in the Learning Center at Cypress Christian School for 17 years as a Discovery Educational Therapist and Skill Building teacher. During that time, she has pursued additional training and certifications to increase her understanding of learning disabilities as well as her effectiveness with intervention.

Melanie has her Professional Educational Therapy License, International Dyslexia Association Certificate, as well as Texas teaching certificates in Elementary Education and Deficient Vision. Melanie holds a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education from George Peabody College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University.

During her free time, she enjoys reading and ballroom dancing with her husband. She has two children, who both attended CCS.
