2025-2026 High School Awards

On Thursday, May 14, award recipients and their families gathered with high school faculty and administration to celebrate service, academic, fine arts and athletics awards.

Service Award

Barnabas Servant Leadership Award

Barnabas in the Bible was a gracious personality, characterized by his generous disposition. This award goes to the student that has made the greatest impact through his service to others during his high school career. He has accumulated over 800 hours of community service and is always seen as willing to help with a smile on his face. We are thankful for the impact he has made on the Cypress Christian community. This year’s award goes to Jack Arsenault.

Bible Department Award (Mr. Lubega Frankio & Mrs. Molly McBride)

This year’s female Bible Department award goes to Caitlyn Waller. Caitlyn’s commitment to the Lord is evident in everything she does. Whether it is an assignment in Bible class or any other class, Caitlyn strives to do her best, and she does so with grace and excellence. Her curiosity and thoughtfulness about the Word of God is refreshing. She truly strives to be a disciple who is following Christ, is being changed by Christ, and is committed to the mission of Christ. This desire is evident in her active disciple-making in and out of school. Caitlyn is heavily involved in her local church, leading out in service opportunities and sharing her faith with others. She seeks out people who might be on the fringe and shows kindness and friendship in a tangible way. Caitlyn’s sweet, quiet spirit puts people at ease and leads them to Jesus. We are proud to have her represent our Bible department this year. Congratulations, Caitlyn!

Jeykei Ortiguero walked into his apologetics class convinced he was, by his own words, “so cooked,” and walked out a student whose posture toward morality, values, knowledge, and biblical truth had been fundamentally reshaped. Jeykei has consistently elevated our class discussions with thoughtful, probing contributions, and he still lights up when we talk about arguments for God’s existence, especially the Kalam Cosmological Argument. In his own words, “people SHOULD be expressing their faith in God and the Bible because it IS true,” and Jeykei lives that conviction. He is a disciple of the Word who helps his classmates wrestle with hard questions and whose voice in discussion deepens others’ understanding and belief. His genuine respect for his teachers and administrators is itself a testimony to his faith in the Lord. For his intellectual seriousness, his humility, and his faithful witness, we are proud to honor Jeykei.

English Department Award (Mrs. Donna Lambert)

The recipient of the academic award in English is a student who consistently demonstrates a keen ability to discern and develop critical analyses of complex reading passages while simultaneously refining a writing style that is reflective and reasoned. In addition, this student excels in class discussions, often leading peers to challenge their own perspectives on both historical and current events as well as classic literature. This student dependably exhibits mastery through investigation, composition, and deliberation. We have two students who are receiving our English award this year. Cypress Christian is proud to award Maddy McKnight and Grace Philipp with this year’s English Department award.

What a privilege to watch these two girls grow over the last several years in honors and AP courses. There truly are no words to describe the joy that filled our hearts and our classrooms each day when Maddy and Grace arrived. Maddy has a genuine love for literacy and absolute truth in what she reads and writes. In fact, Maddy is the reason we now have National English Honor Society on our campus. It was her idea; she was given permission to found and lead the organization as its first President, and because of her tenacity and passion, we have partnered with our CCS campus, our local community, and Boys and Girls Country to empower young minds to embrace the beauty of literature and writing. As Grace approaches literature – both fiction and nonfiction – she understands the human condition through a lens of biblical truth that is rare in someone her age. Like Maddy, she caught the vision for NEHS and served as Vice President throughout our first year. Because of her leadership and commitment to literacy, our chapter is growing. Individually and together, these girls are a force and celebrating them tonight is an honor.

History Department Award (Mr. Nick Papaioannou)

This award honors students who have demonstrated exceptional mastery in social studies throughout the year, with a particular focus on the rich tapestry of history. Their insightful grasp of historical developments, spanning diverse eras and regions, showcases a remarkable commitment to understanding the past. Moreover, their ability to forge meaningful connections across time, identifying patterns and drawing relevant lessons, sets them apart. This deep understanding not only reflects diligent study but also a genuine intellectual curiosity and a passion for uncovering the stories that have shaped our world. Congratulations to Chelsea Scott and Charles Rizzutto on this well-deserved recognition!

Foreign Language Department Award (Ms. Jessica McCarthy)

Madison Mynes is a hardworking, young lady that continuously demonstrates her wholesome Christian values inside and outside of the classroom. She loves God, treats others with kindness, happily participates, and always puts forth her best effort. Her dedication to learning Spanish (even after taking a year off) is a wonderful example for others. It has been a joy and a blessing to have been a part of Madison’s year of Spanish 3 Honors.

Elizabeth Montalbano is an outstanding young lady who demonstrates leadership, maturity, and strong Christian values. She works diligently each day, encourages others, and contributes thoughtful ideas to our Spanish class. Her commitment to excellence in the classroom and outside of the classroom makes her an exceptional member of CCS. It has been a blessing to be a part of Elizabeth’s year of Spanish 4 AP.

Math Department Award (Mrs. Amanda Mellor & Mrs. Jessica Gates)

One of the things we look at in evaluating candidates for the Mathematics Department Award is not just a student’s pure mathematical ability, but whether they exhibit the characteristics of a lifelong learner: someone who demonstrates by their time and effort that they care more about understanding a concept than merely acing a test. This student models these traits day in and day out. He is never satisfied with simply arriving at the right answer but constantly goes above and beyond in his hunger for truth. Moreover, he is always quick to share his knowledge with his peers in a manner that elevates rather than puts down. This combination of skill and humility is both rare and commendable, and it is for these reasons we are pleased to present this award to Jaden Boerboom.

One of this year’s recipients of the Mathematics Department award is being recognized for her inquisitive spirit and her dedication to helping others. This student treats every mathematical challenge as an opportunity for growth. Her work is guided by a beautiful pursuit of God’s truth through the lens of logic and discovery. Tonight, celebrating her hard work and commitment to excellence, we have chosen to award Chelsea Scott with the Mathematics Department Award!

Science Department Award (Mrs. Lori Teague)

The criteria for Outstanding Student in High School Science are as follows:

  • Demonstrates persistence and diligence in the science classroom.
  • Consistently turns in all assignments with excellence.
  • Demonstrates an active interest in applied science.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the science classroom.

Both recipients this year go well beyond these basic criteria. As the Science department discussed this award, teachers from all courses echoed the same sentiments.

These students are helpful to others; they collaborate well in large and small groups; they take full advantage of each class and its materials, going above and beyond what is expected; they both desire to do their best; and they each embrace the full body of Science, not just one course.

We are excited to recognize Corinne Keim with this award.

Corinne, I have had the opportunity to see you grow from a headstrong preteen to a well-grounded, confident young woman. One thing that has not changed over all those years is your desire to learn and expand your knowledge. You, not only want to know what, but why. I imagine your parents heard “why” often throughout your childhood! Your curiosity and drive have served you well in High School and will give you an advantage in college and beyond. The Lord has gifted you with the ability to teach others. I will always remember subbing in 10th-grade Chemistry and watching you take charge, going to the board and teaching the lesson. I am so glad you did, because I had no idea! According to Mrs. McGee, that has been consistent. You naturally help those who are struggling. Your exuberance and joy are apparent to all of those around you. I love that in class you often start singing worship songs while you work. Mr. Kohout chose the perfect scripture for you:

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Next, we are honored to recognize Sophie Fransen.

Sophie, the first words that come to our minds when we think of you are “Righteous, Encourager, Selfless”. You have lifted each of us up in prayer and encouraged us throughout our time with you. What a joy it has been to see you become a spiritual leader – not just to the younger students, but to us adults as well. In the classroom, you are a compassionate leader. You find ways to engage others who may be overlooked. Your perseverance is admirable. When subject matter is challenging, you never quit. You dissect it from all aspects until you fully understand it and then share your understanding with others.

The Lord has gifted you with discernment and a kind and approachable manner. Your desire to serve Him well in all aspects of your life has given you incredible insight. You understand that Science is simply the revelation of what God has Created. You have often shared things with me that I now use in my classroom because it so clearly points to Jesus. You are a champion of Genesis. Where Biology curriculum attempts to tear down scripture, you refuse to be deceived and instead explain how science actually confirms Bible.  Your desire to remain under God’s covering will open doors and opportunities that I know you will use for His glory. As you move on to college and beyond, we know that you will continue to speak the name of Jesus, spread the Gospel and shine His light in the darkest of places.

You have lived out these scriptures in front of your Science teachers and everyone at CCS:

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

On behalf of the Science faculty at CCS, thank you both for your excellent work this year, and congratulations!

STEM Award (Mrs. Debra Gonzalez)

The students selected for the STEM award have taken at least three STEM courses between the disciplines of engineering and computer science. During their time in these courses, the students have shown themselves to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, and team players. They enjoy tackling difficult problems and looking for a variety of innovative solutions rather than settling on the first idea most others see. Perhaps most importantly, they seek to use their gifts and talents in this area to honor their Heavenly Father.

First, we recognize Brandon Trieu.

Brandon has a strong interest in the field of STEM, taking courses such as Principles of Engineering, Honors Engineering, and Level 1 Computer Science. He has also applied for the Senior Capstone Engineering class for his final year and submitted his course request for AP Computer Science Principles.

What sets Brandon apart is his ability to face a problem, analyze it, and solve it. Issues that arise for Brandon do not represent barriers he can’t break through; they are  challenges for which he will find a solution. His curiosity drives him to explore topics deeply, always asking why things are the way they are and how they can be improved.

While Brandon is able to perform at a high level, he does not seek recognition or expect accolades. He remains humble and is willing to help those around him as they struggle through topics that Brandon has already mastered. It will be a joy to watch Brandon continue to grow, pursue his future studies, and live out his faith in this world of ever-evolving technology.

Next, we honor Zoe Brashier.

Zoe has demonstrated outstanding commitment to engineering, taking Level 1 Computer Science, AP Computer Science, Principles of Engineering, Principles of Engineering Honors, and Senior Capstone Engineering. Her dedication to excellence is evident in everything she does—when a task is given, Zoe ensures it is on time and done to perfection.

From the first day of class, Zoe impressed me greatly with her leadership skills and determination. She has a passion for knowledge and her curiosity of how things work is evident. Because of these qualities, I chose her to be the Project Manager for two different building projects. She has proven to be the perfect student to fill this role and led her team to have a successful project this spring in Senior Capstone Engineering.

I was also very impressed by the way she works with her classmates. Zoe gets along well with her peers. She is both caring, respectful, and patient. On many occasions, she voluntarily sat with other students who needed extra help. Most inspiring is how Zoe uses her gifts beyond the classroom. In her Capstone project, she was instrumental in the design and development of a new product created for a friend at Reach Unlimited. Through this work, lives were touched and changed—not only because of her engineering skills, but because of her faithfulness in using those skills to serve others. Zoe is truly a reflection of Christ in the field of engineering, and I have no doubt she will continue to impact lives as she pursues her future studies.

Fine Arts Awards

Fine Arts Department Award (Mrs. Amber Ward)

Pepper Eichelberger has distinguished herself as a well-rounded and driven member of our Fine Arts community. Her commitment to choir is evident in her achievement of advancing to the TMEA Pre-Area level, a testament to her vocal excellence and hard work, while also receiving the TAPPS State Honors Award for her TAPPS solo multiple years in a row. Pepper shares her gifts as a member of City on a Hill, contributing both musically and spiritually to our worship band, showing up each Wednesday morning at 6:45 a.m., ready to give her best for His glory. In band, she demonstrates focus and precision, balancing multiple disciplines with remarkable poise. Her involvement in advanced art showcases her creativity and the high level at which she explores different forms of expression. Pepper approaches every opportunity with enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve. She brings thoughtful, positive energy to everything she does. We celebrate Pepper for her dedication, talent, and the joy she brings to our program.

Max Ferrell has been a steady and impactful presence in our Fine Arts Department, bringing dedication and heart to everything he does. Through his involvement in choir and drama, Max has consistently demonstrated a willingness to grow and stretch as a performer. Max earned the TAPPS State Honors Award this year for receiving a 1-Superior on his TAPPS solo. He consistently leads by example in the tenor section, always willing to help others and always striving to stay true to the task at hand. His work in this year’s musical as “Brother Oaken” showed strong character work and a team-first mindset. As Drama Chaplain, Max has led with integrity and encouragement, supporting his peers both on and off the stage. In band, Max adds another layer of discipline and musicality to his already impressive range of talents. He is the kind of student who quietly raises the level of everyone around him. Max’s commitment, humility, leadership, and positive attitude make him truly deserving of this recognition. We are incredibly proud of the example he sets in our department.

Logan Oliverson has made an extraordinary mark on our Fine Arts Department through his versatility, leadership, and passion for the arts. Also a recipient of the TAPPS State Honors Award for his TAPPS vocal solo, his involvement in choir and drama reflects a deep commitment to musical excellence and storytelling. Logan balances this excellence with a fun-loving spirit that makes every rehearsal better, builds connection, and lifts the room. As Choir Chaplain, Logan leads with authenticity and encouragement, truly understanding how right heart posture honors the Lord. His performance as Kristoff in this year’s musical “Frozen” was outstanding, showcasing both his talent and dedication to his role. An original and four-year member of City on a Hill, Logan has played electric guitar, bass guitar and acoustic guitar, and this year stepped up into the role of drummer. Logan’s humble attitude and ability to serve where he is needed musically are beyond his years and have ensured a consistent foundation to our worship band. Beyond the stage, his work in the band and photography highlights his wide range of artistic interests and skills. Logan’s tenor drum section in the band earned the TAPPS “Best Tenor Section” award. Logan is a student who embraces every opportunity with enthusiasm and purpose. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and excited to see all that he will continue to achieve.

Danielle Robertson is an outstanding leader and performer whose impact on our Fine Arts Department is both deep and wide-reaching. Through choir and drama, she has consistently shown a passion for excellence and a strong commitment to her craft. As Choir Chaplain, Danielle leads with compassion and sincerity, encouraging those around her with a servant’s heart. Her performance in this year’s musical as Queen Iduna in “Frozen”, last year’s performance as Sandy in “Grease” and multiple roles years prior, reflect both remarkable skill and intentionality. With each rehearsal, Danielle raised the bar for her fellow castmates: always prepared, always positive, always willing. Danielle also shares her gifts through City on a Hill, using her voice to inspire and lift others into worship through song. Her achievement as a TAPPS Speech Meet State Champion in Duet Acting is an extraordinary accomplishment and highlights her exceptional theater skills and dedication. Danielle’s work ethic, leadership, and character set her apart. We are so proud of all she has achieved and the example she continues to be.

Athletic Awards

Valiant Warrior Award (Coach Drew Sells)

The Valiant Warrior Award stands as the highest athletic honor at Cypress Christian School, presented to a senior who exemplifies excellence in athletics, leadership, determination, sportsmanship, Christian character, academic achievement, and integrity. More than athletic accomplishment alone, this award recognizes the heart, humility, and Christ-centered life that are foundational to our community.

This year, I have the privilege of honoring a young woman who truly embodies every quality this award represents and has set a remarkable standard for Christ-centered leadership and humility. C.S. Lewis wisely wrote in Mere Christianity, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” That profound truth is evident in the way she approaches both athletics and life.

Throughout her time at Cypress Christian School, she has consistently displayed Christian character in her interactions with teammates, coaches, classmates, and peers. She leads not for recognition but from conviction—always encouraging those around her and placing her team’s success above personal achievement.

Her love for others reflects the teachings of Christ. Her kindness and compassion shine brightly as she continually chooses to do what is right, even when no one is watching. This commitment to integrity is a powerful testimony to her faith and character and beautifully reflects Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

As a standout athlete in volleyball, track, and golf, her talent is undeniable. Yet what truly distinguishes her is her dedication to her teammates, her school, and her community. She inspires others to pursue excellence while serving selflessly, always placing others before herself and representing Cypress Christian School with humility and grace.

Her legacy at Cypress Christian School will endure as a shining example to students, athletes, and staff alike. It is one thing to speak about values; it is another to live them out consistently and authentically. She has done exactly that.

So today, I present the 2026 Female Valiant Warrior Award to Miss Conley Martin

The Valiant Warrior Award is intended to recognize far more than athletic achievement alone. While outstanding performance in competition is certainly part of the honor, the true spirit of this award is found in the individual who consistently demonstrates leadership, determination, sportsmanship, Christian character, academic commitment, and integrity.

This year’s recipient represents the very heart of what it means to be a Warrior. He has earned the respect of teammates, coaches, teachers, and peers through his consistency and unwavering character.

Throughout his senior year, he faithfully represented Cypress Christian School by competing in golf, cross country, and soccer. In every sport, he demonstrated commitment, perseverance, and a team-first mentality that reflected the values of our athletic program.

He embodies the values we strive for at Cypress Christian School. He does not complain, continually seeks ways to improve, is a great teammate, and is always willing to do whatever is asked of him. His humility and servant-hearted attitude have made him someone coaches and teammates can always depend upon.

More importantly, he reflects Christ in the way he lives each day. He has intentionally walked alongside younger players in their faith journeys, investing in and encouraging them well beyond the game itself. He could always be counted on to lead team devotions, setting an example through both his words and his actions.

His growth this season was also remarkable. Having never played soccer before, he approached every practice and game with humility and a desire to learn. He consistently asked questions, sought advice, and welcomed coaching on how to improve. By the end of the season, you would never have known he had only been playing for four months. His coachability, determination, and work ethic became evident to everyone around him.

He reminds us that greatness is not measured solely by athletic ability, but by the way a person influences and uplifts others.

This young man represents the values and mission of Cypress Christian School in an exceptional way.

So today, we celebrate who he is.

It is my honor to present the 2026 Valiant Warrior Award to Cres Harris.
