Veterans Day 2021

On Thursday, November 11, 2021, CCS was honored to partner with families and alumni to recognize the military service of their loved ones.  Student ambassadors greeted guests and handed out the 2021 Roll of Honor while the photo slideshow honoring those who have served played in the East Gym Foyer.

The chapel began with Executive Director, Dr. Jeffrey Potts, welcoming guests to this special event and speaking of the importance of remembering those who have served and are currently serving our country and then opening in prayer. Next was the formal Posting of the Colors by CCS boy scouts, Matthew LeForce, David Wahmhoff, Barrett Wilhelm and Adam Williams.  Football players Jared Erby, Griffin Fisk, Max Landrum and Jacob Moran led the group in the pledges to our flags and the Bible and Jessica Atkins sang The National Anthem. Middle school drama students performed a dramatic reading which encouraged us to remember to say thank you to our veterans.

The special speaker of the day, Captain Brett Millican, was introduced by Director of Culture, Kris Hogan. Captain Millican is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the recipient of numerous military awards including three Meritorious Service Medals, two CG Commendation Medals, five CG Achievement Medals and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Captain Millican engaged the students, veterans and other guests with "sea stories" and spoke about the importance of personal responsibility, communication and putting others before yourself.

In the final performance of the morning, the high school choir sang a medley of the military anthems followed by God Bless America. During this song, each veteran service member was asked to stand and be recognized by the audience as their military brand anthem was performed. National Junior Honor Society officers, Cailea Chalton, Riley Chelette, Corinne Keim and Mary Way distributed a small gift to each veteran as a token of appreciation.

The morning concluded with the formal Retiring of the Colors by High School Principal, Dr. Ryan Berens.

Thank you to everyone who made this event a special morning where we could all say thank you to our veterans of the armed forces and to those who continue to serve our country. God bless our military and God bless America!
