Texas History students took a field trip on Tuesday, December 12, to Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Park and Star of the Republic Museum near Brenham. It was at this site that, on March 2, 1836, delegates signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. Students had a full day of planned activities at the park that included touring Independence Hall, learning about life in the Texas militia, visiting the museum, which covers the time period when Texas was its own country and checking out Anson Jones’s old farm. Dr. Jones was the fourth President of Texas and the students examined his farm, barn, slave quarters, house and played with pioneer children’s toys in his yard. It was a fun and educational day for all.
