Secondary Spiritual Emphasis Days

January 10, 2018

Every day at Cypress Christian School presents opportunities to grow spiritually through Bible classes, chapel programs and the teaching and mentoring of Christian educators in every class. However, on January 3-5, 2018, the students in grades 6-12 were given an extra spiritual challenge as a part of the annual CCS Spiritual Emphasis Days.

After the completion of a long first semester of classes and the excitement of Christmas vacation, the students returned to school, only to be transported to The MET Church for three mornings of worship, teaching and team building. The focus of the three days was on “Habitudes.” A “Habitude” is defined as a leadership skill presented in a vivid picture that impacts our habits and our attitudes.

During the three days the students discussed the following topics:

  1. Are we a “Thermostat” that actively affects those around us or a “thermometer” that simply reacts to one’s surroundings?

  2. Leadership lessons from Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz:

    • a. We won’t always know all of the answers

    • b. We can learn from mistakes

    • c. We can make significant changes by impacting just a few people at a time

  3. The Gospel gives us a suitcase filled with “Portable Truth” that we can easily share with others.

It was three great days of competitive team-building games, quality worship times and teaching sessions that challenged the students on many levels. It is our prayer that this spiritual focus will launch us into a phenomenal second half of the school year.
