Basketball - Varsity Boys

The Program

We believe that the boys basketball program at Cypress Christian School is an exciting and important part of the overall mission of the school. The Bible says in Isaiah 64:8, “But now, O LORD, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; and all of us are the work of Your hand.” The Potter molds the clay into vessels that can be used by Him. It is our intent for the Boys basketball program at CCS to be used as a tool by God to help mold and shape godly young men who know the Lord as their savior and apply His Word to their everyday lives. The success of our program will not be measured in wins and losses, but in how we exemplify Christ and how well we close the gap between our potential and our performance as players and as men.

Theme Verse: Romans 12:4-5

Boys basketball at CCS is a program comprised of middle and high school teams joining together to make one family. As a basketball family we will genuinely take care of and support each other at all times just as Christ does for us. We believe this will increase trust, communication and unity among the players. As our theme verse states, we are one body with many parts. Every part is important and has a key role to play for the betterment of the body as a whole.

The goal of our program is for every student-athlete to be a Warrior for Christ who “AIMS” for the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus on a daily basis.
A – Accepts the call to action.
I – Improves and works to strengthen their abilities.
M – Meets challenges with determination.
S – Strives to move past failures and to press forward.

Four Quarters

Just like the game of basketball, our philosophy is broken down into four quarters that we believe every player must be committed to in order for the team and the program to be successful:
1. Respect
2. Academics
3. Teamwork
4. Enthusiasm

Respect for authority is a must for all student-athletes participating in the basketball program here at CCS. Student-athletes in our program will respect God, parents, coaches, teachers, teammates, game officials and themselves. We believe that maintaining a high level of respect for authority helps build godly character as well as a sense of pride and ownership of the goals we are trying to accomplish.

All athletes who participate in the CCS basketball program must realize that they are students first and athletes second. It is imperative that players take care of business in the classroom just as they do on the court. We expect our players to always strive for academic excellence because this will carry over onto the basketball court as well as other aspects of their lives.

Working together as a team is essential and non-negotiable in the CCS basketball program. Everyone in the program will be committed to each other and hold each other accountable to play the game in a way that honors God, to work hard in practices and games, to master the fundamentals of the game and to encourage each other.

We believe that enthusiasm is infectious and is a direct contributor to the productivity and wellness of everyone involved in our program. We want our players to carry out tasks promptly and eagerly, to enjoy being part of a team and to have fun while they play the game they love. We believe that players who are enthusiastic about the game of basketball will in turn produce fun basketball to play and to watch.

We are excited about what God is doing through the Boys basketball program at Cypress Christian School and hope you will come be a part of that excitement. Your support is always needed and always appreciated.

In His Service,
Coach Craig Cleveland
