Overall, a little over 7% of high school athletes go on to play a varsity sport in college and less than 2% go on to play at NCAA Division I schools. Today, we are proud to announce that six seniors have signed National Letters of Intent, committing to play college athletics, representing 10% of the Class of 2020 with more seniors still to commit later in the year! This group includes four baseball players, one soccer player, one Olympic-hopeful swimmer and three NCAA Division I athletes.
Clayton Dean - Baseball - University of Louisiana at Lafayette (NCAA Division I)
Cole Greenberg - Soccer - Southwestern University
Luke Thompson - Baseball - Baylor University (NCAA Division I)
Drue Hirth - Baseball - Kansas Wesleyan University
Elliott Jones - Swimming - Auburn University (NCAA Division I)
JT Tackett - Baseball - New Mexico Junior College
Today's ceremony opened with the CCS Warrior Drumline/Hornline playing the fight songs for the colleges represented. Sixth through 12th-grade students and secondary faculty and staff were in attendance as coaches spoke about each athlete individually and a biography was read about their athletic careers. Executive Director, Dr. Jeff Potts told the students, “Whatever your dream or goal is, there are people here - coaches and faculty and staff - that will help you achieve it. It is up to you to put in the hard work like these individuals, but they’ll help you achieve it.”
