Lady Warriors Win District Opener

The Lady Warriors softball team opened district play with a 22-8 win over Northland Christian School on Tuesday evening. The girls broke open a tight ballgame in the bottom of the fourth, batting around twice and scoring 15 runs before making their third out.

Senior Makaylah Williams circled the bases twice in the big inning, taking advantage of fielding mistakes after laying down a perfect bunt and, later that inning, scoring on an inside-the-park homerun. Sophomore shortstop Sarah Olenick and junior outfielder Melody Janz each crossed the plate four times in the victory and junior pitcher Lucy Davis led the offense with three hits and four RBIs.

The Lady Warriors are 16-2-1 this season and have won eight of their last nine after beating Northland and edging John Cooper High School 11-9 late last week.
