Last Thursday, the CCS high school cross country team competed in the TAPPS District Championship race, held at Challenger Seven Memorial Park in Webster, Texas. The Warriors competed with nine other schools and nearly two hundred individual runners and once again found success! The months of running countless miles in the Texas heat paid off in a major way.
In the boys race, the Warriors were led by senior Garrett Velez who finished in 11th place and by fellow senior Jacob Hotchkiss who finished in 16th place, running a new personal record. As a team, the boys saw five runners set new personal records, which allowed them to finish in fifth place as a team.
Senior Sophia Slabic once again led the charge for the Lady Warriors with a third place overall finish, and she was joined by senior Emma Muehlenbrock and sophomore Casey Barbisch who also finished in the Top 10. As a team, fourteen different runners set new personal records and this exceptional effort brought home the TAPPS District 4-5A Championship for the girls team.
The top seven boys and top seven girl runners will finish the 2018 cross country season competing at the TAPPS state championships in Waco, Texas on Monday, October 29.
