Varsity Softball Warriors Gut Out a Win!
April 19, 2011
The Beaumont Legacy Warriors came to battle our own Cypress Christian Warriors in a very close game that would not be determined until the final play of the bottom of the 7th inning. The CCS scoring effort was led by Taylor Ables who had 3 hits including a double and a triple; and scoring 2 runs. Kit Rhea had 2 doubles and scored 2 runs as well. Cypress Christian trailed by 2 runs throughout a close game into the bottom of the 7th, when the grit and determination of our CCS girls came through. Needing to score 2 to tie and 3 to win, Taylor Ables led off bottom of the 7th with a triple to make things interesting. Elena Ray followed with an RBI base hit to score Taylor from 3rd and close to within 1 run of Beaumont Legacy. After a caught stealing, Kit Rhea hit a double to again raise the hopes of our Lady Warriors by putting the tying run on 2B. Kit Rhea moved to 3B on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a second wild pitch to tie the game. The Legacy pitcher now feeling the pressure walked the next two CCS batters when Sarah Kooiman came to the plate with two outs and runners on first and second. Sarah worked the pitcher to a full count before she drew a walk to load the bases for Alyssa Beach with 2 outs and the winning run on 3B. Before Alyssa could enter the batter's box, Olivia Roberts drew an errant pick-off attempt at 3B from the Legacy catcher and scampered home for the winning run. Our Lady Warriors had completed the comeback victory in dramatic fashion as the dugout emptied toward home plate to celebrate the victory.
