Texas History Fair is a CCS Tradition
December 6, 2011
This year’s seventh grade history fair was entitled “Traditions that Make Texas Proud." During the first quarter, each student chose a topic that interested him or her personally. These topics ranged from colleges, the state fair, FFA, NASA, and various festivals. Students then worked in their language arts classes to research and write a paper about this topic. Bible teachers pitched in to help students include scriptures and a biblical worldview that tied topics to God and His blessings. This paper was brought to history class where students used their research to create engaging speeches and creative and informational tri-fold boards. Eight judges joined us Friday, December 2, to listen to speeches and view presentation boards. Presentations were judged on such attributes as educational value, Biblical integration with topic, presentation skills, and creativity.
The Cypress Christian tradition of the Texas History Fair is a beneficial one. This is a great cross-curricular endeavor involving the English, Bible and History teachers and classes. Each year, students learn many things about our great state, as well as about research, writing, speaking, and how God ties into our many blessings.
Thanks to Jennifer Taylor, history teacher; Alison Ivey, language arts teacher; Rachael Lechman, girls’ Bible teacher; and Lubega Frankio, boys’ Bible teacher for their enthusiasm, skill, and hours of sacrifice to help make the fair a success. Also, the wonderful seventh grade parents worked diligently to support their young historians throughout the weeks of this learning experience.
