Seniors Recognized at Annual Learning Center Dinner

February 7, 2012

The Cypress Christian School Huff Learning Center held its Annual Dinner on January 30, 2012. Special student speakers included CCS seniors Mischelle Aufmuth and Jacob Hicks. These students shared with elementary and secondary families how the Learning Center and the Discovery Program at CCS have helped them to overcome some of their learning challenges and boost their self-confidence as students.

Mischelle shared how she felt as a student prior to coming to CCS. She stated that she often “felt like the girl that only knew one language and had just been transported to another country and had no idea of what her teachers were saying to her.” After being enrolled in the Discovery Learning Center program, Mischelle began to see her grades and confidence gradually increase. Mischelle praised her Discovery therapist for helping and encouraging her year after year. She explained that CCS and the Learning Center program has changed her academic life. Mischelle verbalized that she presently feels more confident about her academic and learning needs and is more accepting of whom she is as a student. “God gave me a huge blessing in my life and that blessing is CCS!”

Jacob Hicks also shared his journey as a student at CCS. In the third grade, he was diagnosed as having dyslexia. His family always considered his diagnosis as a positive thing. Jacob’s family enrolled him in the Discovery Learning Center Program to address his reading and academic needs. Jacob stated that “the journey was challenging, but well worth it.” During Jacob’s CCS high school career, he has been enrolled in advanced classes. He is looking forward to attending college and is considering majoring in Chemistry with an emphasis in Pre-Med.

May the Lord receive all honor and glory! He has done great things!
