Rodeo Art Winners including Best of Show
January 6, 2011
Elementary and secondary art students received special honors for their artwork submitted to the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Competition. Joshua Holl (Grade 5) won "Best of Show" for his artwork. His piece will be displayed at the Livestock Show in the Hayloft Gallery for the entirety of the Rodeo.
Elementary and secondary art students worked hard throughout the first semester of the 2010-2011 school year to create a piece of artwork to be submitted to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Competition. CCS Art teachers, Thomas Martin (Grades K-6) and Michele Bennett (Grades 7-12), said that the competition for realistic western art was very stiff this year. They are very, very proud of their students. Students put a tremendous amount of time and effort into their pieces. Congratulations to these CCS Artists!
Award Criteria
Our school is combined with all of the private and Christian schools to form a school district. The judges can pick up to four pieces per division (K-5, Junior High, and High School) to compete against the different public school district winners.
Artwork from CCS students was judged as follows with being Best of Show the top award: White Ribbon, Red Ribbon, Blue Ribbon, Rainbow Ribbon (This ribbon designates pieces that are being considered for Gold medal or Best of Show.), and Gold Medal (These pieces are also treated like the best of show but were not quite up to those levels.) The very top award is Best of Show. (Two of these awards are given per division.)
Best of Show Winner
Joshua Holl (Grade 5) won "Best of Show" for his artwork submitted to the Private and Christian School District K-5th grade area competition. His piece will be displayed at the Livestock Show in the Hayloft Gallery for the entirety of the Rodeo. (Be sure to go by and check it out if you attend the rodeo this year.)
Joshua won a scholarship to attend a summer workshop at the Glassell Junior School of Art. He also has the choice of receiving three tickets to the rodeo or a carnival value package on March 5, 2011. In addition, he and his family will attend an awards presentation on that same day.
