Homecoming Victory
October 24, 2012
One of the largest crowds in school history was on hand to see the Warriors collect their first district win. Cypress exploded for 26 points in the second quarter as Andrew Wilson connected on three touchdown passes. The first was for 25 yards to Jake Borkovich, the next two were spectacular catches by Grayson Beck for 53 yards and Frank Aufmuth for 33 yards. Wilson turned in a career best performance at QB by completing 12 passes for 185 yards and 3 TDs. Frank Aufmuth had 5 catches and is just 5 catches away from tying the school record for catches in a season at 50.
The defense also got in on the scoring late in the second quarter when Will Echols intercepted a Legacy pass and returned it 53 yards to expand the Warriors lead to 26-0. The 53 yard touchdown interception return is a school record. Senior linebackers Dan Crozier, Gray Dansby and Matt Bancroft lead the Warriors with double digit tackles. Crozier and Travis Wilhite also lead the team with tackles for loss with three each. The defense was nearly flawless on the night as it held Legacy to under 200 yards of total offense and just 6 points.
The Warrior will host Woodlands Christian this Friday night at 7PM. The game has major playoff implications for both teams and will be the first time that the two schools have ever met in football. The play by play of the game will be broadcast live on the Teas Sports Radio Network. Click here for more details. Half time will feature the elementary soccer program in a players vs coaches game.
