Go Middle School Volleyball

Coach Van Rieg

October 9, 2012

The 2012 CCS Middle School Volleyball teams are made up of a great group of girls!  Our largest group ever with a total of 26 members in grades 6-8 - including managers.

Our “B” team represented by eight sixth graders and four seventh graders has done an amazing job representing CCS. As a B squad, their task is to learn how to use the skills they worked on during our summer clinics as a part of a coordinated team effort. As usual, it would be hard to say they played as a team their first couple of matches. However, from that point forward, that statement would no longer be accurate. Offensively, more often than not, they have attacked with a controlled pass, set, and hit style of play. The seventh grade leadership group has done a great job of encouraging our sixth graders. Little by little, the entire team has become more confident in their ability to play a “real” game of volleyball.

Our “A” team, featuring eight eighth graders and two seventh graders have shown a consistent high level of play throughout the season. Currently, after completing all regular season district matches, we stand solidly in second place with only one district loss. Our two seventh grade setters have worked hard at learning how to place a set in the right spot, and our eighth grade hitters have taken full advantage - scoring many kills. We’ve also seen some very good blocking as a result of our two blockers putting a lot of effort into nailing down the timing of the block. But the best part of our game is our team’s consistent ability to put their serves in play and control the pass when the other team is delivering the ball. Their level of control has been key in our wins this season. Competition ends this week with the end-of -season, winner-takes-all tournament, and as the coach, I think our team has a strong chance of taking home the championship trophy.
