DNA Experiment
September 18, 2012
While studying the functions and structures of proteins and enzymes, the Anatomy and Physiology classes extracted DNA from strawberries. Strawberries are very useful for this due to the enzymes pectinase and cellulase which allow for easy breaking of cell walls as well as the large number of chromosome copies. The students were surprised to see how easy it was to isolate and observe DNA.
