2010 Elementary Tribal Competition
May 10, 2010
Elementary Tribal Competition at Cypress Christian School is similar to Field Day at other schools. It is run as both an individual and team event. This is done to promote inter-grade camaraderie and to develop an awareness of what it is like to be part of a team, as well as to develop good sportsmanship in competition. Each child is assigned a tribe (team) when they first enter school at CCS. They remain with that team until they move on to the next grade. The teams are divided into the tribes (sons) of Israel. Each tribe member competes to earn individual awards and team points. As a finale to the competition, each tribe competes in the ultimate tribal event - tug of war. The tribe competes together and includes all kindergarteners through fifth graders at the same time. Throughout the competition and during our school year, we encourage students to be happy for their teammates and classmates - no matter how well they perform themselves. We would like all of our students to win with humility and lose with dignity, showing Christ’s love in all they do, even competition. They only truly lose if we do not take the opportunity to help them learn this important lesson.
2010 Elementary Tribal Competition
God blessed us with perfect weather for our day and great volunteers who worked hard and helped the events of the day run smoothly and joyfully. Our tribal leaders (please see names of secondary students below) served as buddies to elementary students and helped wherever needed. They were enthusiastic, energetic, and endearing. They prayed with our students, encouraged them, and led by example. Our National Junior Honor Society students timed the events for us. We could not have made it without their dedication and flexibility. Our photographers captured great shots of our students enjoying the events, their buddies, and their teams.
Thanks!
