Classes
Secondary Drama, Speech & Debate Programs
Sixth Grade Drama
This semester long elective class for sixth grade students offers the basics in theatre from stage directions to a full performance. At the end of the semester, students join with the music class and produce a musical.
Seventh and Eighth Grade Drama
These students focus on memory techniques, character development, and impromptu activities. The fall classes practice and perform a short play in addition to our clown ministry. Students design clown identities and skits which are later taken to a few local churches as an outreach ministry. The spring class adds a musical that is performed alongside the middle school choir.
High School Theatre
This year long class offers students an opportunity to study the history of drama and stage basics. Students practice light acting and stage design.
Advance Theatre
This performance based class is for the theatrical student. Admittance to this class is by teacher approval. All students take part in plays performed throughout the year as well as TAPPS competition. Acting skills are refined through daily practice in the classroom. During the first semester, students write and perform a skit for the homecoming pep rally and rehearses during class for the winter performance. During the second semester, students produce a One Act Play.
Debate
Students represent CCS at TAPPS in the areas of persuasive speaking and original oratory. In February, students travel to Mineral Wells, Texas to compete in the ACSI Lincoln Douglas competition.
Speech
Our communications class devotes itself to making the most of each and every opportunity we have to speak in front of others. From interviewing skills to large venue speaking, we learn to maximize the time we have in front of others.
