2010-2011 High School Athletic Achievement and Honors

High School
Warrior Athletics took the 2010-2011 theme, “ALL FOR HIM,” and ran with it this year. This was the best year yet collectively for the high school teams in the history of the school. We are grateful to God who gave us talented student athletes and gifted coaches to make it all come together during each season. Not only were we victorious, but we had a great time competing. Every sport has its own set of stories. The students worked hard and the results were evident. As John Wooden taught, “Little things make big things happen.”

  • Track and Field (Girls and Boys): Took the most athletes to State in the most events and brought home the most medals in CCS history

2010-2011 Middle School Athletic Achievement and Honors

Great Job, Middle School Athletes!

  • Cheerleaders: First place NCA Camp Competition; First place in Mardi Gras Fest
  • Volleyball: The Lady Warriors earned third place in the NHAL district in volleyball.
  • Football: Athletes played hard and ended in the middle of the pack.
  • Basketball: The season saw some great moments as the girls’ and the boys’ teams fought hard and improved throughout the season.
  • Winter Soccer: The season was great as both the girls and boys played an independent schedule.
  • MS Track: Team members had a tremendous spring with the B boys winning the District Meet and the A boys coming in second. The B girls won second and the A girls took third at the District Meet.
  • MS Softball and Baseball: Players were busy swinging their bats. The ladies won second in an independent tournament and the boys took fourth in the NHAL District Tournament.

2009-2010 High School Athletic Achievement and Honors

  • Varsity Football: TAPPS Division III District and Bi-District Champs
    • Ten members of the Cypress Christian Football team received All-State accolades for the 2009 season. Daniel Rodriguez was recognized on both sides of the ball as a first team defensive linemen and a second team offensive linemen. Kyle Francis also received first team honors as a linebacker. Brandon Galloway and Jason Groll received second team honors as a wide receiver and running back. Jack Mitchell, Michael Gamble, Kyle Hinn, Jacob Reed, and Austin Barton received honorable mention.   • Varsity Volleyball: Bi-District and Area 3A Champs
    • Shanay Briscoe – All State Second Team, Volleyball
    • Shanay Briscoe and Amanda Wilhite – Academic All State, Volleyball
  • JV Volleyball: District Co-Champs
  • Varsity Cheerleaders: Earned top awards at Universal Cheerleading Association camp

  • Valiant Warrior: Catrina Beaty was recognized as the "Valiant Warrior" for the 2008-2009 school year. This award is given to athletes who have exemplified Leadership, Excellence in Athletics, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • Varsity Football: District Runner-up
  • Varsity Volleyball: District Champs; Bi-District Champs; Shanay Briscoe won All State honor and Academic All State honor
  • Varsity Girls Soccer: District Runner-up; Bi-District Champs
  • Varsity Softball: Bi-District Champs
  • Varsity Baseball: District Runner-up
  • Varsity Mens Golf: Ben Mitchell tied for third in state for individual play
  • Varsity Girls Track and Field: District Champs; Regional Runner-ups; Third Place Team in State; Shanay Briscoe won State title in High Jump, Shot Put, 100 m. Hurdles, 300 m. Hurdles. In addition, Shanay received All State and Academic All State honors. While representing TEAM USA, Shanay Briscoe won eighth place in High Jump in the 2009 IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Italy. She also holds the title of TOP USA Athlete in High Jump.
  • TAPPS 3A: Shanay Brisoce received the honor of being named 3A Athlete of the Year

  • Middle School Sword and Shield Award: Shannen Longridge and Matt Bancroft won the Middle School Sword and Shield Award. This honor is given to very deserving student athletes for exemplifying excellence in Athletics, Leadership, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • MS Girls Basketball: District Runner-up; NHAl Tournament Runner-up
  • MS Girls Track and Field: Runner-up at NHAL District Meet
  • MS Boys Track and Field: Runner-up at NHAL District Meet

  • Valiant Warrior: Three seniors athletes were recognized as a "Valiant Warrior" - Allie Borkovich, Holt Van Pelt, and Michelle Van Rieg. These athletes were honored for their Leadership, Excellence in Athletics, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • Varsity Football: Kyle Jenkins earned All State honors.
  • Varsity Volleyball: Earned trip to post-season play-offs
  • JV Girls Basketball: Most games won in the history of CCS on JV level
  • Cheer: First Place at ACP JV Division
  • Varsity Softball: Allie Borkovich earned All State honors.
  • Varsity Baseball: Patrick Fox earned All State honors.
  • Varsity Mens Golf: Third Place in District
  • Varsity Ladies Golf: District Runner-up, State Qualifiers
  • Varsity Track and Field: Lady Warriors took Fourth Place at State. Shanay Briscoe won State in Shot Put and High Jump while breaking her old State Record in High Jump. Dayna Longnecker, Lexus Van Pelt, Catrina Beaty and Shanay Briscoe were bronze medalists in 4 x 200 m. Relay. Holt Van Pelt earned State Runner-up honors in the 300 meter hurdles and Fourth Place in the 100 m dash. Brandon Galloway (800), Shanay Briscoe (High Jump, 400, relay), Lindsay Adam (discus), and the 4x400 Relay team (Shanay Briscoe, Jordyn McCain, Lindsay Adam and Catrina Beaty) set new school records! Shanay Briscoe, Dayna Longnecker, Lexus Van Pelt, Catrina Beaty, and Holt Van Pelt earned All State honors.

2007-2008 Middle School Athletic Achievements and Honors

  • Middle School Sword and Shield Award: Allie Aimone, Lizzie Hilton and Jacob Hicks won the Middle School Sword and Shield Award. This award is given to very deserving student athletes for exemplifying excellence in Athletics, Leadership, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.

  • MS Volleyball: Third Place in North Houston Athletic League (NHAL) District Tournament

2006-2007 High School Athletic Achievements and Honors:

  • Valiant Warrior: Kristan Hinn and Matt Schroeder were recognized as the "Valiant Warriors" at the Spring Athletic Banquet. This award is given to athletes who have exemplified Leadership, Excellence in Athletics, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • Varsity Volleyball: Third Place in District - TAPPS 4A
  • Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams: Competed at State; Kenny Ellis covered the five kilometer course in a TAPPS 4A Track best time of 17:30. He won the individual State Cross Country title
  • Varsity Boys Basketball Team: Finished the season as TAPPS 4A State Champs
  • Varsity Boys Soccer Team: Competed in TAPPS Winter District play for the first time, and earned a spot in post-season play.
  • Competition Cheer Squad: Competed in the American Cheer Power Texas Open and placed 3rd in their division.
  • Athletic Scholarships accepted: Brian Jackson, Football, West Point Academy; Nick Rodriguez, Football, Trinity Valley Junior College; Biko Paris, Basketball, Boston College

2006-2007 Middle School Athletic Achievements and Honors:

  • Middle School Sword and Shield Awards: Faith Longnecker, Anne Yalamanchili and Jonathan Mason won the Middle School Sword and Shield Awards. These awards are given to very deserving student athletes for exemplifying excellence in Athletics, Leadership, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • MS A Volleyball: Finished First Place at the Living Stones Tournament. Two girls were given All Tournament Honors out of 160 athletes.
  • MS A Volleyball: Earned Third in District
  • MS B Volleyball: Finished Second in District
  • MS Football: Placed Third in District
  • Cross Country: Lexus Van Pelt competed to earn second overall on the 2400 meter course. Brian McClanahan finished 2nd overall on the 1200m course.
  • MS Boys A Basketball: Finished 4th in District
  • MS Girls A Basketball: Finished as District Runner-up and Tournament Runner-up in the North Houston Athletic League
  • MS Track: Completed their season with the A Boys, B Girls and B Boys each earning District Runner-up titles at the NHAL District Track Meet

2005-2006 High School Athletic Achievements and Honors:

  • Varsity Volleyball: TAPPS 4A Bi-District Champions
  • Varsity Girls Basketball: District Champions
  • Varsity Boys Basketball: “Back-to-Back” title of TAPPS 4A State Champions
  • Varsity Baseball: Earned the TAPPS 4A Bi-District Champion title again
  • Girls and Boys Track: Earned TAPPS 4-4A District Runner-up winners, and took the most individual athletes to State in our history. Another history-making event was Kenny Ellis becoming the State Champion in the 4A division, 3200 M. Run. Our boys 4x200 M. Relay earned State Runner-up, and Holt Van Pelt won third in the 100 M. Dash and Kenny Ellis placed third in the 1600 M. Run. CCCS made history again as several high school athletes earned All State honors: Kenny Ellis (Cross Country), Daniel Ambrose (Football), Kristan Hinn (Volleyball), Biko Paris, Antoine Sam and Ludovic Dovonou (Basketball), Kenny Ellis, Beau Adam, Holt Van Pelt, Austin Tunnell, and Bryan Jackson (Track), Louis Lee, Daniel Ambrose, Josh Roberts, and Tim Redden (Baseball) and Kerrie Nelson (Softball-first ever in our school)
  • Girls Golf Team: Finished second in TAPPS Regional Competition

2005-2006 Middle School Athletic Achievements and Honors:

  • Girls Basketball: Won the District and the Conference Tournament
  • Track and Field: All four teams place in the Conference Meet.
  • MS Baseball: Earned District Runner-up status in the conference.
  • MS Golf: Competed in a tournament on Wednesday, April 12, at Pecan Lakes Golf Course in Navasota, TX. Two students from Cypress Christian won individual medals. Congratulations to Kim Schroeder for first place and to J. W. Whitehorn for second!
  • MS Softball: Placed third in District.
