In Senor Dubon's Spanish classes, students concluded the unit about "Birthday Celebrations" with a big fiesta day to celebrate student's birthdays the Hispanic way with piñatas.
The use of piñatas in many Spanish cultures makes it a common symbol of celebration. The history of the piñata is both ancient and symbolic. To appreciate a culture and its many intricacies, a student is better served by experiential learning. The objective of learning about the history of the piñata, creating one and then using it in a celebration is to allow the student to experience first-hand the culture of the target language.
Senor Dubon says, "It was a lot of fun all day and a great opportunity to fellowship with this group of wonderful students!"
