Special Honors


Superior athletes of impressive Christian character make the Cypress Christian School athletic program a raging success. CCS students of all ages are consistently recognized as MVP players and bestowed All Star honors.

2006-2007 High School Athletic Honors (as of April 1):

  • Kristan Hinn and Matt Schroeder were recognized as the "Valiant Warrior" at the Spring Athletic Banquet.  This award is given to athletes who have exemplified Leadership, Excellence in Athletics, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • Varsity Volleyball - 3rd Place in District - TAPPS 4A
  • Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams competed at State
  • Kenny Ellis covered the five kilometer course in a TAPPS 4A Track best time of 17:30.  He won the individual State Cross Country title
  • Varsity Boys Basketball Team finished the season as TAPPS 4A State Champs
  • Varsity Boys Soccer Team competed in TAPPS Winter District play for the first time, and earned a spot in post-season play.
  • The Competition Cheer Squad competed in the American Cheer Power Texas Open and placed 3rd in their division.
  • Athletic Scholarships accepted as of April 1:  Brian Jackson, Football, West Point Academy; Nick Rodriguez, Football, Trinity Valley Junior College; Biko Paris, Basketball, Boston College

2006-2007 Middle School Athletic Honors (as of April 1):

  • Faith Longnecker, Anne Yalamanchili and Jonathan Mason won the Middle School Sword and Shield Awards.  These awards are given to very deserving student athletes for exemplifying excellence in Athletics, Leadership, Determination, Sportsmanship, Christian Character, Academic Achievement, and Integrity.
  • MS A Volleyball Team finished 1st place at the Living Stones Tournament.  Two girls were given All Tournament Honors out of 160 athletes.
  • MS A Volleyball Team earned 3rd in District
  • MS B Volleyball Team finished 2nd in District
  • MS Football Team placed 3rd in District
  • Lexus Van Pelt competed at Middle School Cross Country Meet to earn 2nd overall on the 2400 meter course.
  • Brian McClanahan finished 2nd overall on the 1200m course.
  • MS Boys A Basketball Team finished 4th in District
  • MS Girls A Basketball finished as District Runner-up and Tournament Runner-up in the North Houston Athletic League
  • MS Track completed their season with the A Boys, B Girls and B Boys each earning District Runner-up titles at the NHAL District Track Meet

2005-2006 High School Athletic Honors:

 

  • Varsity Volleyball - TAPPS 4A Bi-District Champions
  • Girls Basketball District Champions (last time was four years ago)
  • Varsity Boys Basketball  “Back-to-Back” title of TAPPS 4A State Champions
  • Varsity Baseball team earned the TAPPS 4A Bi-District Champion title again
  • Girls and Boys Track teams earned TAPPS 4-4A District Runner-up winners, and took the most individual athletes to State in our history.  Another history-making event was Kenny Ellis becoming the State Champion in the 4A division, 3200 M. Run.  Our boys 4x200 M. Relay earned State Runner-up, and Holt Van Pelt won third in the 100 M. Dash and Kenny Ellis placed third in the 1600 M. Run. 
  • CCCS made history again as several High School Athletes earned All State honors:  Kenny Ellis (Cross Country), Daniel Ambrose (Football), Kristan Hinn (Volleyball), Biko Paris, Antoine Sam and Ludovic Dovonou (Basketball), Kenny Ellis, Beau Adam, Holt Van Pelt, Austin Tunnell, and Bryan Jackson (Track), Louis Lee, Daniel Ambrose, Josh Roberts, and Tim Redden (Baseball) and Kerrie Nelson (Softball-first ever in our school)
  • Girls’ Golf Team finished 2nd in TAPPS Regional Competition

2005-2006 Middle School Athletic Honors:

  • Girls Basketball team won the District and the Conference tournament.
  • Track and Field had all 4 teams place in the Conference meet. 
  • MS Baseball earned District Runner-up status in the conference.
  • Middle school golfers competed in a tournament on Wednesday, April 12, at Pecan Lakes Golf Course in Navasota, TX. Two students from Cypress Christian won individual medals. Congratulations to Kim Schroeder for first place and to J. W. Whitehorn for second!
  • MS Softball placed 3rd in District.

The 2006 class has the most in CCS history to advance to the collegiate level.

    The Class of 2004 - Senior signings:

    • Josiah Cowden signs letter of intent to play baseball at San Jacinto College.  Josiah was also drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the major league draft, but has chosen to remain at San Jacinto.  This marks the first baseball scholarship.
    • Tyler Martin signs letter of intent to run track at College of the Southwest, Hobbs, New Mexico.  This marks the first track scholarship.
    • Grant Coffman - Played baseball for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview
