Fine Arts Awards
Each spring, the 9th-12th grade Fine Arts Department holds the annual Fine Arts Festival where works of art by CCS students are displayed, choir students perform and drama students present award winning scenes from TAPPS competition. In addition, the Fine Arts teachers present awards to deserving students. In 2006-2007, the following awards were presented: Fine Arts Student of the Year, Backstage Award, Technical Servant Award, Broadway Bound Awards, Shakespeare Award and the Barnabas Award.
Drama/Theatre/Musicals
- Middle School Drama students participate in the ACSI Speech meet each spring. In 2006-2007, students won ribbons and medals in the following areas of competition: Humorous Monologue, Dramatic Monologue, Humorous Poetry, Humorous Prose, Dramatic Poetry, Bible, Puppets.
- In 2006-2007, many 9th-12th grade drama students were inducted into the International Thespian Society. They were honored for devoting themselves to work in theatre arts. Actors and technicians alike earned points through performing and serving in other capacities including all facets of technical theatre, stage management, film/video work and writing.
- In 2007, high school drama and choir students performed in the musical HONK!
- In spring 2007, middle school drama and choir classes prepared for months to present their musical, "Anchor's Away" and the work paid off! The name of the Lord was lifted up as students sang about His faithfulness to Noah in three sold-out performances. In addition, the high school students hosted a Dinner Theatre where they performed a western melodrama entitled, "Trouble Came to Tumbleweed."
- Along with thousands of other students from the Houston area, CCS Theatre and Music students participated in the Tommy Tune Musical Theatre Award Show in April 2007. Senior, Keeley Lambert, received one of seven $3,000 Musical Theatre Scholarships. In addition, the cast and crew of HONK! (CCS Fall 2006 Musical) was nominated for Best Costumes!
Art
- K-5th graders compete in the ACSI Art Festival each year with many students earning top level ribbons and medals.
- Young artists (elementary age) and older ones (secondary students) alike participate in the Houston Rodeo Art Competition each year with many pieces of artwork winning top honors.
- CCS placed Third Overall in TAPPS District Art Competition in spring 2007. Student competed in: Drawing-Monochromatic, Graphic Design, Computer Generated Design, Applied Design, Mixed Media 3-D, Mixed Media 2-D, Sculpture, Crafts, Pottery, Photography Creative & Experimental, Photo-Commercial and Digital, Photo-Digitally Manipulated, Senior Portfolio, On-side Drawing.
- CCS high school art students participate each year in the TAPPS State Art Competition. Last spring, students took a total of 13 pieces of art to the contest and came back with six ribbons for their entered pieces, as well as one ribbon for an on-site event.
Choir/Music
- The High School Choirs, including the Chamber Choir, will once again compete in TAPPS. Each year, CCS choir students (choir groups, vocal ensembles and soloists) receive special honors at both the District and State Competitions.
- Elementary music classes held "Performance Days" last spring. Many students presented solos, ensembles and instrumental selections.
- The CCS Band and Drum Line performed last spring for parents and fellow students. They will play at football games and basketball games this year.
